Went to see a play yesterday. It was about a family of a recently-laid-off IT manager, her husband who makes meager income by photographing nature instead of people, and their fifteen-year old daughter who gets increasingly ignored by her parents in their attempts to stabilize their income.
The parents visit a free seminar about "digitalization in modern enterpreneurship", which is full of sentimental pleas to "seize the moment" and marketing through creating a buzz in the social media. It's followed by an expensive course that one "simply must take, or you'll let the other attendees down", lots of compliments, setting up a business with lots of focus on the marketing, presence in the social media etc but none on the product. Guess if their finances improve.

I will say no

I guess that depends on whether the author is more interested in causing warm fuzzy feelings in the audience, or in ranting against the 'social-mindededness' and 'marketese' of modern business practices that are currently in vogue. I know I'd be inclined towards the latter (But I would try to turn this around with a second half of the story or something like that).

the play explicitly features a free seminar in which the attendees are socially pressured to go on an expensive course instead so I'm guessing it's not a puff piece for modern marketing practices

There was a bit of uplifting stuff too
The daughter, who was actually quite good at critically assessing her parents but wasn't allowed to join them into the seminar ("it's not for kids"), turned to the internet for attention. And befriended an older man. Who just so happens was not a predator and actually helped expose the fraudulent seminar guy who sold nothing but big words and high hopes.

it's always nice when you meet not-predators on the internet

Yeah. They built up the suspense of their interactions until pretty much the final few scenes, they were clearly leading into the idea that she's gonna get hurt.

maybe not the best message for children

2:16 PM
It wasn't really for children, I hope
