I'm just generally skeptical of news outlets doing things like asking permission to say things a certain way in general and I don't know anything about E that would make me think they would be particularly trustworthy for that
At any rate, I'm super happy for Elliot and I wonder whether/how their character in the next season of Umbrella Academy (which just got approved last month) will reflect their reality--especially since there's always been a strong ownvoices component to Page's casting in the role.
(I also notice that E only uses he/him for Page, never they/them. [tsk])
The emotional heart of Umbrella Academy has so far been Vanya's journey through queerness and trauma--although they often give other characters more screentime, Elliot's work in the role makes Vanya consistently stand out above and beyond everyone else.
I'd like to see a new season give Vanya some happiness without ripping it away, though? Umbrella Academy is about people who never seem to be able to hold onto happiness, but it's especially hard to watch with Vanya because of the "queer misery" tropes it's reinforcing.
@Adeptus I mean, I could also go into the spoiler rant.
I don't think we know yet if Min is spoiler but if he's not... that's a statement right there, that spoiler.
It's a lot harder to do responsible rep when you're indulging in tokenism, because then your only [demographic] character has to represent all of that demographic for your story.
@Adeptus this... gave me terrible vibes since the only reason I remember the name (I usually don't remember who played who in movies and other media) is because of a quite horrid scandal related to the game Beyond: Two Souls. And if I get this new right, this kinda makes that scandal worse.
