I just made a List of Causes of Regeneration for the Doctor Thus Far for a friend, and it amuses me so I will put it here as well.

> First: Sneak attacked by old age
Second: Punished by Time Lords
Third: Radiation poisoning in a cave of giant spiders
Fourth: Fell off a radio tower
Fifth: Poisoned in an industrial mining incident
Sixth: Head trauma from turbulence
Seven: Botched heart surgery after a gang shooting
Eighth: Spaceship crash
Warth: Old age (sneak attack, again)
Ninth: French-kissed the TARDIS engine
Tenth: Shot by Daleks during a slow-motion frolic
Tenth: Hotboxed a radiation leak
Eleventh: Old age (saw it coming this time)

2 hours later…

It took the Doctor three times to see old age coming, I thought they were smart :P

@BESW the best part of Doctor Who is that by design it doesn't grant any actor any form of "Job Security". No way the series get stuck with someone because they were the original actor and changing them makes no sense :P.

And on the other hand, pretty much anybody who got a couple of episodes as a companion, much less a Doctor actor, can get Big Finish audio story jobs for the rest of their life.

At least it will protect us from very random choices, you would probably have to live with them for a season and then forget they even existed.

@BESW Anyway, is the Rowan Atkinson doctor included in the list?

No, he's one of two or three Doctors that are properly considered non-canon.

The Watcher may or may not count, both on whether it's the Doctor and whether it died.

(And then there's Jenny, of course.)

And in the most recent episode we got a lot more deaths that it could be argued should be on the list, but could also arguably not count as deaths of the Doctor.
