7:57 AM
@BESW behold the wonder of the digital age.

Oh, I've been beholding CS6 Photoshop and Illustrator for seven years now.

enjoy all the awesome features we added just to milk your cash make you more productive.

But this comes on the heels of Macintosh also announcing that their next OS is likely to be incompatible with CS6, so I'll be forced to either go to the Creative Cloud or move off Adobe entirely.
The problem is... Adobe's products are the best available, for a lot of reasons. That's why they're free to treat their customers like trash, they know we've got nowhere to go.

reminds me of Disney pulling out the downloads for some of their games.

A lot of us are locked into the Adobe production cycle anyway, but there's just no really professionally viable alternative to most of Adobe's products.

8:01 AM
Oh, you bough this? You never made a backup of the installer? Sorry, you can't download it again. Bad luck.

There's one possible alternative I'm looking at, but it means completely re-learning my workflow and using a beta build for one of their programs.

@BESW Lucky for me, my current needs don't go beyond anything I can do in five minutes with GIMP

Basically everything I do for my job goes through at least one Adobe program.

oh, it is nothing work related.

I've been watching them confidently abuse their customer base for more than fifteen years. The wonder of the digital age has been taking a dump on my job for at least ten.

8:04 AM
the worst that can happen at work can be summarized to "project manager idiocy"
like expecting us to add an icon to a button but never providing the art....
or thinking that we will magically turn that full color 32px icon to an svg...
and since there is no investment on graphics creation/editing tools... I'm not doing anything that requires more than a free tool.
So most of the times... Paint.net

for me workplace stuff boils down to being expected to learn entirely new things all the time and putting up with contract work where the people contracting us don't like to give us information
my boss, or bosses really, are more than happy to actually help us with stuff and at least one of them is definitely smarter than me
but boy is the rest of that still stressful

3 hours later…
11:22 AM
@trogdor just asking.... Do you ever saw a short comedy sketch called "The Expert"?

it's possible
I think I recognize the name but what it is about eludes me

well.... that's basically how I work most of the time -_-'
> "We need you to draw seven red lines. [Pause.]

All of them strictly perpendicular; some with green ink and some with transparent. Can you do that?"

uh

yeah if that's literally all the instruction I don't even know what they are asking
oh sorry yeah I missed that entirely the whole color thing
I've had a day
XD

11:26 AM
... it usually ends the same way too....
> "Can you draw one of the lines in the form of a kitten?"

lol
just ignore Geometry
ok then I'll get right on that, want me to get you something from the other dimensions Ima visit? ok see you
@Derpy ok so this is something I wouldn't have found nearly as funny until I got this job and had to work under contracts that,... felt a little like this
obviously this is exaggerated but sometimes I feel exaggeratedly picked on by the apathy of people asking me to do something impossible or with not enough information so it works XD

@trogdor basically it all sums up to the standard...
> "Let’s not rush into any hasty answers, Anderson! The task and needs to be carried out.

At the end of the day, you are an expert."

lol
except I'm not an exptert
I'm more like a Jack of All Trades at this particular job
I get asked to work on practically everything
though I guess I got sent to training in India for ADA Section 508 stuff (website accessibility stuff basically)
but I wouldn't say that makes me an expert either
just,... a little trained

@trogdor oh, nothing in the sketch even implies he really is an "export". It may as well be another Jack of All Trades sold at "expert" wages.

but that might be pedantic of me
@Derpy yeah that's fair
all that being said though, for me it really is just the people we have contract work with who pull this
my bosses are actually good about telling/teaching me how to do the thing I am supposed to do

11:40 AM
@trogdor here it really depends. There are times I am just told to "Use Tundershock"

though I could also complain that during certain projects some of my co-workers didn't pull their weight and I ended up carrying all the extra
I won't name names but during our 3D building modeling contract I did like probably 60-70% of the buildings because some of my co-workers spent weeks making an unimpressive hut or something and the rest were making really detailed Churches or Museums
:/
the second group did a good job just,... that first one boiled my blood a bit
we had a deadline and if I hadn't picked up all that slack we would have lost the contract entirely
and I don't know what the heck would have happened after that
anyway, I really appreciate some apt workplace jokes
Agretsuko was great for that
she had more problems than I did but it was still great to revel in the struggle against stupid work stuff

11:56 AM
@trogdor Aggretsuko is not enough anymore I fear...

do you mean for you?

If I start to listen to her singing... I risk to be the one who switches to Zen mode.

ah

that's why it is probably better that I limit myself to relaxing musics when I work.

I don't watch it at work
in fact I just binged it while house sitting one time

12:03 PM
not watching.
just listening on headphones.

ah ok I see
yeah I bring some music to work now
it helps a lot

12:25 PM
@trogdor start worrying when you notice you are listening to things like Heartache, Hikari, Time Machine and so on....

12:56 PM
on a whole different topic, I will have to search for a FF7 full script.
Have to check what a certain book said.

2 hours later…
2:45 PM
Was actually able to find the text for the books I was speaking about before. As I remembered, the text in there didn't match the cutscene they referenced. Wonder if that is just one of the many translation error. Time to ask on Sci-Fi

6 hours later…
8:51 PM
@Derpy "Wonder if that is just one of the many translation error." - I wouldn't be surprised
