"FATE" originally stood for "Fudge Adventures in Tabletop Entertainment" and then "Fantastic Adventures in Tabletop Entertainment.
Around 2006, with Spirit of the Century, they stopped acronyming it.
It's not wrong to say FATE, but the primary producer of Fate content, Evil Hat, doesn't, so it can be confusing.
