Thread:
Beayeux Tapestry's a bit mainstream. The Quaker tapestry has 'Comrade Mary' - an east London social worker. When she was knocked down by a tram she refused to be put in an ambulance until she had written down "It was not the tram driver's fault, it was my fault. Mary Hughes."

@trogdor They're the largest reptile, and the most social reptile.
They have the strongest bite strength of any animal, and in the dinosaur times where they originated their bite strength was stronger than a T-Rex.

Ah, Komodo doesn't beat them on that first one?

Nope.

Mk

They have the most acidic stomach of any vertebrate, and the most complex heart.

I already know Komodo are jerks (apparently the sometimes canabize each other)
@Miniman oooh interesting

3:45 AM
Pretty much the only thing that kills them is that everything preys on their eggs, otherwise we'd be up to our ears in crocodiles.
@trogdor Especially considering that they stopped evolving thousands of years ago.
I had no idea how large an area they range over, either.
Basically everywhere that could be called tropical.

Yeah they are mysteriously well evolved
None here though, thankfully

Closest living relative of birds.

Didn't know that one, but somehow not tooo surprised

They can walk raised on their legs like mammal quadrapeds, or with their legs next to their body like a lizard.
The skin on their backs can stop a bullet (!)
The jaw muscles that give them crazy bite strength aren't as good at opening, which is why you see people holding their mouths closed.

Wow
@Miniman I did know that one

3:51 AM
They can run up to 17 km/h on land, and some can climb trees.

I learned it from Steve Irwin's show as a kid
@Miniman oh Christ tree climbing
Lol

The most visible difference between crocodiles and alligators is that when a crocodile's mouth is closed, you can see its teeth, whereas alligators have them inside.
The biggest crocodiles can be up to 7m long, and weigh up to 2000 kg.
Anyway, yeah.
Crocodiles are definitely as cool as lizards, maybe even cooler.

Mm that is a lot of neat stuff
I did not know most of it

@Miniman what's their heart like?

2 hours later…
6:43 AM
@nitsua60 4 chambers, 2 ventricles, 2 aorta.
Also this weird system that lets them prevent blood from returning to the heart and instead recirculate it.

@Miniman why do they need it?

Plus the usual assortment of one-way valves.
@RollingFeles It's a matter of some debate, apparently.
Possibly to stay underwater longer, possibly to manage their temperature.

> The usual assortment of one-way valves. You are a normal Earth creature and nobody can prove otherwise without giving you a battery of tests and two fate points.

7:01 AM
@Miniman I see. Anyway, they're very awesome indeed.
Thanks for sharing :)

7:20 AM
@RollingFeles Glad you liked it!

@Miniman did you find why that was useful
?
ah I see, Feles already asked that XD
