Q: Why are qubits bosonic?

d_bI have a very simple, probably even trivial question. In the condensed matter literature, I see local qubits referred to as bosonic degrees of freedom. Now, a qubit is a spin-1/2 system (or at least can be realized by or mapped to such a system), and at least in relativistic QM, spin-1/2 particle...

Q: Does uncertainty principle apply to holes/gaps in matter?

JobHunter69Consider a hole in a semiconductor, or a missing atom in a crystal. Are their positions and momentum related by uncertainty principle? These factors would of course be determined by its surrounding matter, but it's not clear to me whether the sum of the uncertainties around it also follow HUP.

Q: Why doesn't oil produce a sound when poured?

MosheI've noticed that unlike other liquids, when pouring olive oil for occurrence, I don't hear any sound at all from it. Usually you can hear an audible sound as a cup gets filled with water, as the sound increases in pitch. What makes the oil behave this way?

Q: On the notion of norm on Schwarz space

ric.sanOne of the postulates of Quantum Mechanics involves the so-called Born's Rule: Formulated by Max Born in 1926, it gives the probability that a measurement of a quantum system will yield a given result. In its simplest form, it states that the probability density of finding a particle at a given ...

Q: Circularity In Definition Of Force?

Kevin C SpeltzSo my college physics book defines a force as a push/pull, but mainly a vector quantity, having both magnitude (strength) and direction. Yet it also defines the unit of a Newton, as THE FORCE, required to accelerate a 1 kg object 1 m/s^2 My questions is, isn't that kind of circular or misleading?...
