@Chair Was your flag on Qmechanic's comment, and did you cast the flag after the asker had posted their followup comment? If so then it may have just been a mistake. That's a valid flag.

@DavidZ There were 2 commments, one by QMechanic and one by the author. A quick look at teh question told me that theh author had made an edit after QMechanic's comment and the edit seemed to be a description of dynamical algebra. I flagged both comments at the same time, and one of them was deleted automatically and marked as 'helpful'. I was kind of surprised when the other was declined

Anyways, looks like QMechanic's comment is gone now.

Yeah, both of those flags were valid. I'm not sure why one comment was deleted at the time and the other wasn't.
