Can I just say I love people who write up notes for their classes and post them online?
Those people do more good than every doctor in human history
I would gladly give a million dollars to them but I'm broke so here's an empty gesture ^^
Wait nvm I take it back
This person is encouraging using Cloneable
That interface is one of the surprisingly few really bad things in Java
Screw people who post their incorrect/misleading notes online
And they have a whole new section on cloning and a bit that suggests using finalize
I do not love this person anymore
I do appreciate the fact that they're showing off Java's quirks, but they should really mention that these are things that are not exactly recommended
Oh no and they're casting an Object[] to a T[]
How tf is this person a professor (TA?)?
This is sad

4 hours later…
4:10 AM
i love how bad i am at closing browser tabs when i dont need them

i hate it

like three different tabs of python documentation? not closing that. three different reference pages for projects i was working on in an automation-based video game i havent played in 3 months? definitely need that. six different pages for client-side optimization mods for minecraft? essential. schedule of new york mets baseball games? need that

@user your surprise evidences a very optimistic view of cs education

i think i have literally about 30 tabs open for CGCC and related stuff (including like canvas, lambda chat, Chat-on-Chat, and various other stuff)

i think that's about as many as i have
never mind it's 143
it definitely was 30 some time in the last week or two

4:17 AM
and I'm just over here with 5 tabs
3 of those being SE chat

i dont know any good way to figure out how many tabs i actually have open other than counting them

i have 8 se chat tabs because i cba to use the rooms you're in links

and of course this is just one of my browser windows, i keep an entire separate window open for school related stuff

I've trimmed my tab count down to 3

4:18 AM
@des54321 at least in firefox if you have enough it'll give you a confirmation dialog before performing a mass close that tells you how many tabs you'd be closing

what exactly... is that third tab

i have about 6-7 chat tabs open, depending on how you count radvylf's chat-on-chat

4:20 AM
I think the most tabs I've ever had open is 8
oop nvm I think it's 9

my actual windows i have open are equally excessive, i have three file explorer windows, two firefox windows, task manager, steam, my vpn, my torrent client, notepad, openoffice calc, settings, github desktop, a python shell, notepad++, and vlc media player

i can see having the discipline to keep it down to 10 or 20 when you're not busy with something
but having never had more than 9??????????????????????????
how
actually how

i physically cannot be stopped from opening new tabs

I close tabs once I'm done with them

4:21 AM
middle-clicking a link is too easy
and firefox's scrolling tab-bar kinda helps put excess tabs out of sight, out of mind

chrome does try to punish you for having too many tabs open by making them tiny

@des54321 wow. I only have file explorer, vivaldi, intellij, discord and git bash open

yeah if i had to deal with chrome's tab squishing i'd probably have better tab discipline but also like fifteen windows

@UnrelatedString that's going off the largest tab session I have saved in the tab manager extension I have
there might have been a few occasions where I've had more than 9, but that's very rare
But I've never been a person of having hundreds of tabs

4:24 AM
@des54321 three file explorer windows, six firefox windows, discord, a terminal window with eight tabs, qbittorrent, keepassxc (which i don't even use it just opens at login and i never bother closing it), razer synapse, settings, steam, epic launcher, intellij idea, and atom

my excessive habit is chrome extensions

and pretty much all my coding project nonsense (notepad, openoffice, github, IDLE, notepad++) is for a single project, it gets much worse than this when im working on multiple projects at once

i absolutely hate the notification circle on the color picker one

4:25 AM
That's not a notification circle

it looks like an off center magnifying glass
whatever that circle is it's awful

it's usually whatever colour you've selected
but because I haven't used it yet, it defaults to my Vivaldi accent colour

or rather the icon for the extension is awful considering that the circle exists

:thonk:

4:27 AM
> Chrome doesn't allow extensions to play with special Chrome pages like this one.

chrome://...
SE chat is special chrome page confirmed

wait holy fuck your address bar is tiny
https://cha...
that sure is a lot of extensions

I suppose if I didn't have two boxes there it'd be bigger
left is the address, right is general search

yeah i would honestly recommend yeeting the search bar
just use the address bar for searches

which I do

4:30 AM
I uh can't find where to turn it off

found it

this is the biggest I've ever seen it

i tried searching it for you and the first result was someone who thought one of those adware bars was part of chrome and wanted to get it off their desktop

4:32 AM
oh lol this isn't chrome
this is vivaldi
completely different settings menu

oh yeah

that's where it is

makes sense

and yes, I do have everyone's favourite green as my accent colour
but one day it won't matter

as we all should

4:33 AM
because one day they'll release DDG for Windows
but until then, I'll have to look on with envy as Mac users get beta access to DDG for desktop

9 hours later…
1:04 PM
Just saying
I do hope they first fix tge iOS version tho
Because it is kinda garbage
(Using it to send these messages)
Only nice thing about it is the fire
And the site grades
And it not being chrome or safari

1:40 PM
@UnrelatedString :(
One page just says "asdf"
And they didn't just cast to a T[] once, they literally said "Generic subtyping also works for arrays" and proceeded to show how you were allowed to do Object[] oO = sS where sS was a String[]
oO more like o.O

me when cold temperature

2:02 PM
All I'll say is that my money don't jiggle jiggle. It folds.

Nice
How much did you have to heat it before it started doing that?

yes

Cool cool
bruh
My alt GitHub account has more stars than my main one (alt has 7, main has 2)

3:05 PM
Ahahaha
Good luck with doing that in Java

3 hours later…
6:10 PM
yeah thats a good thing to do, IF your language actually performs tail call optimization
