Fuuuuuuu*ck...I got an 89 for one of my 6-week-grading-period grades, and figured it was fine since semester grades are what's used for our GPAs and rankings. But it turns out for honor roll they use the individual 6 week grading periods, so I don't have a 7-year streak of honor roll any more :|
And the worst part? It was in business management, which is basically a participation grade, and a class I didn't even sign up to take

welp

I mean, I guess the honor roll thing doesn't matter too much since if I put "4.0 GPA" on applications it'll look the same to them as "all-A honor roll", but still sucks, and I refused to accept the "all-A-and-B honor roll" they tried to give me at some banquet thing tonight out of an assumption that it was an error, and wasted an hour and a half of my and my parents' time
I mean, I know this doesn't count for anything really, but I'm pretty disappointed anyway, and I feel stupid since I basically got up and left in the middle of the academic award thing out of an assumption they'd messed up and made me look stupid (when it turns out I'm actually just stupid :|)
And I could've taken an AP class instead of business management, a totally useless class that I've done literally nothing in
It's basically just how they get free child labor to run the school store, and they put me at "finance", but for legal reasons they can't let some 16-year-olds do their finances, so at the beginning of the year we counted change in the drawer once a week, but now they don't even bother having us do that so it's a free period
But in the first semester we had a different teacher, who still gave me useless jobs, but would then give me 80s and 90s on participation grades because for some reason I wasn't doing anything

dang, sucks

This probably wouldn't bother me so much if it didn't come right after the false-NHS-rejection thing and the neo-nazi-teacher-accuses-me-of-plagiarism thing

so u chose to take finance instead of ap or the school didnt allow u to choose ap ?

My first choice was some random class, I think engineering, then business management (since I thought it'd like, teach interesting stuff or something, how foolish of me), and then an AP class as my backup
And engineering was full this year, and they prefer juniors and seniors over sophomores, so I ended up with business management, which I didn't realize was a mistake until the first day of school
But anyway, going to sleep now o/

oh yeah any cool syntax resources you could link me to
i've enjoyed reading papers on syntax in the past but when i actually took a (generative) syntax class i just zoned the fuck out for some reason

@UnrelatedString well, there’s lyxal’s lyxtures tomorrow

Guys guys I get to check an item off my bucket list
I heard a civil defense siren test
They don't announce them around here, and I have no clue where the sirens are, but I happened to get lucky, and one occured as I was leaving the school from the award thing last night
It was an electronic siren, and a bit distorted, so likely a loudspeaker with fancy software, but it's still close enough to the real thing that I enjoyed it

TIL there were non-binary fairies in Peter Pan:
> the mauve ones are boys and the white ones are girls, and the blue ones are just little sillies who are not sure what they are

i fucking suck at making challenges

Dang it I just replied "good" to "what's up" >:|

good is up from "what's up" in lexicographic order, so....

@UnrelatedString I'm not very academic about it, I'm afraid. I like Mark Rosenfelder's stuff, and I like reading Wikipedia articles.

ooh
i read the hell out of his site back in middle school but had no idea he was working on a syntax construction kit
tempted to actually buy that some day

@UnrelatedString I've got Advanced Language Construction. It's a pretty good read.

Does anyone here have Nebula? Is it any good?
I've got like $15 left in my google pay balance I'll never use, was considering a 1 year subscription

@UnrelatedString Also, WALS.info has some interesting stuff. I don't know how meaningful the statistics are (there's probably lots of sampling bias in cross-language comparison), but I like the discussions of the concepts and the examples of languages that do different things.

oh that is so cool
thanks

You wanna know what's fun? Putting non-standard time amounts into the microwave and watching it count down from something like 90 instead of 1:30
Something about 73 as an amount of seconds is satisfying
One day I want to try 2:60 instead of 3:00
