I'm having trouble understanding the significance of a 'presentation' of a group $G$. Let$\langle S ~|~ ... \rangle$ be the presentation of $G$ where $S$ is the subset of generators of $G$ and the $...$ are the collection of 'relations' between the generators in $S$. I mean I guess i'll figure it out as I read but what does this tell us about the group itself?
