Umm, My life seems repetitive. I need to change something...
That seems expensive.
The smartphone I mean, not changing your life.
Although that could be expensive too!
Maybe, but Cerb is a person of wealth and influence.
Lucky Cerb!
I have a stupidphone.
It can't be more stupid than mine.
But I like it despite its stupidity.
Maybe for the same reason that my parents like me!
I don't know which bit to reply to first!
06:42
You better don't reply to those stupid lines!
I have one of these.
And I can think of dozens of reasons why your parents would like you. If I knew you better, it would probably be hundreds.
Wow, really?
I mean, do you really have that one?
Yes, why is that surprising?
My wife's one is even more primitive, but I'm not sure what model it is, so I can't link to it.
I always judge people by their mobile phone, perhaps I should stop it.
Is there anything you can do with your stupidphone except calling?
But why do I need to take photos, access the Internet, or do anything else that's smart? I owned it for almost two years before I ever sent anyone a text.
06:53
Very tempting David, very tempting.
OK, judge away then. I am feature-poor and boring, but reliable.
And old. Don't forget old.
takes note
Does it mean a phone like the one I linked to doesn't capture your attention?
Umm, I don't know what I would do with it.
Or you feel like you don't need it?
Oh?
I've never felt the need of any smartphone functions; I don't know why I would start now.
07:02
Odd.
I'm going to go and play table tennis with my son. I shall come back here later. CU.
Bye!

Q: Why did generative linguists abandon the notion of kernal sentences?

James GrossmannI've had a hard time finding answers to this question on Ixquick. When I was young, transformational grammarians believed that sentences were derived from "kernal sentences," which were uniclausal, single-verb clauses with no modifiers. http://grammar.about.com/od/il/g/Kernel-Sentence-term...

Q: measuring relative importance/social proximity of an addressee based on length of written explanation in letters with multiple addressees

ShukicI have a corpus of personal letters in which writers explain a tough decision to multiple addressees, each in its own section/paragraph of the letter (for the most part). I wonder if anybody has ever empirically measured the attention/production/verbosity associated with each addressee (e.g. nu...

@Cerberus Nur so.
@Gigili I am not rich at all, or I'd buy a Galaxy Nexus.
18:39
I know, I just said it without any particular reason.
Those are the best kind of reasons!
Maybe we should just wait a month or two and it'll be $200 if not for free.
This is the price development in Holland.
Green is the lowest price available, blue the average price.
Cheapest one I could find in a Dutch (web)shop was € 365.
So even cheaper than Amazon.
Why didn't you buy it?
Well, look at the graph.
The curve is going downwards, and it is steepening.
It may very well be € 200 in a few months, as you say.
18:51
Wow, nice that we didn't buy one so far.
It is always that way with electronics.
Or at the time I was tempted to buy one of them, for € 600.
The more new types are introduced every year, the faster the price of the older ones will decrease.
@Gigili Yup.
By the way, a knowledgeable friend told me that it costs about € 50 or less to make a new smartphone.
So there is ample margin for prices to drop even more.
Of course the manufacturers need to make a handsome profit per phone to cover the costs of research and development, but still.
Whoa, only € 50?
Imagine how handsome is Apple making profit.
19:34
Exactly.
And Apple isn't innovating much recently, I think, in their phones, so low research costs for each new Iphone type.
That's why Apple's value increased by a hundred billion a year or more, over the past few years.

@Gigili If I spot another one of your unnecessary flags, I'll report you for abuse.
That's all I got from trying to kick him out.
Do you really think I'm more annoying that the on begging for help to translate some shit?
You suck badly, all of you.
Jez is pushing Reg a little bit about the translating, but Reg is quite capable of resisting and ignoring that. It's not a problem.
My advice remains: just ignore him, and don't try flagging (you have seen time and again that it doesn't work).
