@Tetsujin I know how you feel...
I have had similar in another non-SE world...
sigh

5:01 PM
I often feel we're hanging by a thread:\
I always try to at least squeeze in a helpful or even just supportive comment on the good questions - but my actual knowledge of sound design as it pertains to 'film' is quite limited. I'm an audio engineer/producer etc etc, but from a music studio background.

@Tetsujin You are sooo helpful as a rapid flagger - we rely on them to shut down the dross quickly

It's in my page of open tabs, so I do fly by quite frequently, even if just to prevent cobwebs :P

looks like we are going to have elections for both Sound and Video this summer
as we have lost a couple of mods

oooh… but who do we have to choose from in here… it's not like we're overcrowded
& I really don't think I have the temperament to be cool, calm & even-handed.

you, ghellquist and Mark are the only really active folks who carry out moderation tasks (eg flagging, VTC etc)

5:08 PM
Yup. I kind of get the feeling that if we were all nominated, each of us would vote for the other two & we'd reach stalemate ;)
You'd get the casting vote

hmmm… that's one of those 'will it change my life' things. Either they'll restructure so we won't recognise it, or in 3 years we'll still be saying "Pro… who??"

5:28 PM
@Tetsujin yup

5:49 PM
@Tetsujin lol
@Tetsujin seems like the kind of thing that means an influx of money and keep doing what you are doing
the company I work for went through a similar process and is still very much the same company. We were actually purchased by Vista, then Vista bought us a company, then we bought another company, then Vista bought another company and merged us with them and then eventually we went public, but with Vista still being the major share holder
and through all of that the company really hasn't changed
just has the backing of a much larger and better funded organization
based on a quick read on these guys, I suspect it will be similar

6:07 PM
yeah, I used to work for a company that usually bought others eventually. Line6, Steinberg, & they're the ones you've already heard of. I remember being in a meeting seeing what must have been the first demo of convolution… the lawyers checked it, decided it couldn't be patented - open house after that. I still feel sorry for the guy who thought he was going to make money from it.
