@tohecz it can be as complicated as you want it to be. Many individuals are happy with just two speaker cabinets (either just midrange, or a generic set of tweeter, woofer and midrange)
Adding a sub is nice, fills out the bass, but not essential

@RoryAlsop can you check out the mod room
posted a question there for you to review
though actually, I suppose anyone could give their thoughts on it

Q: Audio Technica ATH-M50 REAL LEATHER compatible pads

Gal MargalitWould like to upgrade my Audio Technica ATH-M50 pleather pads to real leather. The internet is full with threads of pads customization for that model, but everyone suggesting velour or pleather, which also, doesn't always fit the ATH-M50 cup size. Thanks

more specifically, does anyone think that should be on topic even if it was specifically asking for recommendations of pad material between leather, pleather and velum?
I see it a bit like asking what kind of paint should I use to change the color of my headphones
sure, it's modifying something used by sound design, but it has nothing to do with how they function
but I wanted to make sure nobody actually considers it to matter in how they function
I can't think of a meaningful answer that isn't way WAY bad subjective
@AJHenderson which room? I just scanned through the 22 in my sidebar and saw nothing.
the sound design mod one, but I just restated here as it really wasn't sensitive
more a sanity check on something that is arguably borderline topically
@AJHenderson ahh - cool. I can't see anything about it being on topic
It's a personal comfort thing, as you rightly pointed out
I'm sure there is some arm of the audiophile community that argues one is better than the other
for some nuanced and insane reason
but then again, that's the audiophile community in general
I often think audiophile:sound guy is like witch doctor:scientist
@AJHenderson (I agree - but quietly)

yeah, you can always tell who the real audio guys in the room are when a topic like that comes up because they are the ones that start shaking their heads
