Q: Possible to make MySQL use more then one core

gbnI've been presented with some dedicated MySQL servers that never use more than a single core. I'm more developer then DBA for MySQL so need some help Setup The servers are quite hefty with an OLAP/DataWarehouse (DW) type load: Primary: 96GB RAM, 8 cores + single RAID 10 array Test: 32GB RAM w...

can you post the setting for innodb_file_per_table and also SHOW ENGINE INNODB STATUS\G

gbn
@Dtest: innodb_file_per_table = ON. SHOW ENGINE INNODB STATUS\G is command line only?

as opposed to what? (i'm a command-line junky). You can switch the \G to a ';' and should be able to get the results like any other show query. A GUI might not parse the \G output right

gbn
@Dtest: I got no output in SQLyog and would need to ask someone to run this from command line

webyog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1290 should work without the \G. Also, I think SHOW INNODB STATUS is deprecated in favor of SHOW ENGINE INNODB STATUS in 5.5 (I get an error running the former in command-line.

hi. any luck with it?

gbn
Not at work now
8pm here
I run this earlier but got no results as a quey
hence my questions
I had these dropped on me 10 days ago... so learning quickly :-)

Sounds fun!
Not sure how sqlyog works, but running without the \G modifier should work.

gbn
yep, shocked at performance

although if it wasn't giving an error, that might be something else. The command gives a basic overview of how InnoDB is performing

there are no monitors switched on I saw
would this be related?

No, you don't necessarily need monitors on to get info.
This gives a walkthrough of the output that could be given (when you get to run it): mysqlperformanceblog.com/2006/07/17/…
Enabling specific monitors just forces the server to output the data periodically. Running the command explicitly also gives you that data.
I'm interested in this, because MySQL does handle multiple cores automatically (at least it does on my RHEL system, and previously on a Mac OSX server). I can't find anything that indicates forcing single-core

I wasn't sure of exact details
it's strange
but as the solaris bloke said, these have been installed and left
someone tweaked then my.cnf for memory and other stuff (I compared to defaults) but these are huge boxes and run like 10 year old servers
I was running SHOW ENGINE INNODB STATUS earlier so will try from cmd line
thanks

yup
when you're at work tomorrow let's walk through some other settings (if Rolando's thread changes didn't help)

gbn
thanks, when are you online please?
early afternoon?

yeah, I'm EST timezone
probably will log on about 2pm

gbn

Anyway, the missus is shouting so I'm off
cheers.
