12:00 AM
No :)

12:17 AM
Has anyone tested last year's trigger for matryoshka?
> 10 successful close or reopen votes.

Multiple users on CGCC have the hat without having the ability to VTC or VTRO
(and we haven't had enough questions for it to also allow close/reopen flags)

12:45 AM
Do we now know what hat Slate was referring to?
23 hours ago, by Slate
Someone very recently earned, for the first time, what I expect will be the most elusive hat this year. Very exciting.
Is it Slow Trickle?

I just earned Slow Trickle on Politics 🤷‍♀️

Hmm I think it has got to do with the edits for the by-election question

That was a while ago though, I only got it in the last hour or so… could be an upvote after an edit though possibly?

Hi
here for 3 seconds
bye

@CDJB Possibly, I’d say it’s related to editing a post multiple times over some time, therefore slow trickle. and then combining that with some upvotes in between.

1:17 AM
@Panda Any other users who have slow trickle besides CDJB?

@nobody This user has it too.

I reckon it’s for getting an upvote on a post on four separate days [in a row].

@CDJB Then it would have been impossible for somebody to get it yesterday, no?

1:34 AM
@CDJB That sounds very plausible.
@nobody I don’t think anyone got it yesterday?
@Slate Any clue what hat were you referring to here?
24 hours ago, by Slate
Someone very recently earned, for the first time, what I expect will be the most elusive hat this year. Very exciting.

@Panda If slate was referring to this hat then someone did
This user has it as well. And this user. That's three users from cseducators.

I think you're all overlooking the "most elusive" part
This is clearly supposed to be a difficult hat not only to guess the trigger for, but also not a hat that's easy to luck your way into

@nobody Slow Trickle definitely doesn’t sound that exclusive now.
I suppose it’s something like Red Baron / Waffles.

Yeah, not now.
But is there something special about cseducators?
Why are people getting the hat there?
And another from politics.

@nobody I guess they have lesser questions per day so it’s easier for new questions to get upvotes for a few days.
@nobody This largely confirms CDJB’s guess. That user probably got it from the speaker of the house question.

1:42 AM
perhaps.
I've just done a little test for that guess.

1:56 AM
Ok, looks like this disproves CDJB's theory. This user has upvotes for "How does the log4shell vulnerability work" for four days in a row, but doesn't have the hat

2:46 AM
I haven't found a single thing common between the questions that triggered Trialogue :-/

Can you disprove my theory?
7 hours ago, by Peilonrayz
I'm guessing; Monologue is A asks, B answers -> Dialogue add A comments -> Trialogue add B edits -> Quadalogue add A accepts, in order.

@Peilonrayz Quadalogue doesn't work for sure ..

Source?

Comments could be deleted from the answer, since the edit would mean the comments would be NLN

2:52 AM
Answer is accepted and the user already have Trialogue...
@CDJB @Panda @nobody Can that hat be related to number of upvotes? All the three users have high number of upvotes...

@Ollie I think it might be something to do with flagging/close votes as well. I just got it after that a question I voted to close was closed.

@Slate / @Catija Do you need an account on the site to see people's hats in the user's profile?

@Peilonrayz Yes

yesterday, by Wolgwang
@YaakovEllis Ohk. Are hats visible to only registered users? If someone who doesn't have an account visits the profile, hats are not visible, right?

3:00 AM
thanks

@Wolgwang It looks like it is. CDJB's guess was a good one since it was consistent with all the users that had that hat. However, I seem to have a counterexample too

@Peilonrayz Apparently I have joined 17 communities during the winter bash XD

Should be a hat for that, lol

@nobody All three users answered HNQ . (IDK how relevant that is)
@cherryblossom Some users with reps <1000 have the hat. So it can't be close votes...but closing question via flag might be related.

@Wolgwang Right. Now, I don't think it's getting votes for a couple of days; otherwise, Glorfindel would've gotten it for the hats list post.

3:11 AM
@Panda That is wiki FYI...

@Wolgwang Right. Or rather hkotsubo for the show off your hats post.
Or most people who posted an answer on the show off your hats post for that matter.

Can someone post links of some users who have helping arm? I am struggling to find them...

3:36 AM
@JasperHabicht When did you get helping hands?

3:46 AM
22 hours ago, by Catija
This is the literal description in the spreadsheet - "(+1 Comment on a new user's first post) x3" so it takes a minute for me to parse. :P
@Slate Different users?

2 hours later…
5:21 AM
@Wolgwang Not per text but it might've been implemented that way, idk.
@Panda Oh, Helping Heart. But it looks like there will be one more harder one. In principle it should be awarded many times this Winter Bash but we'll see if it happens in practice.

Finding patterns in comments related hat is too difficult ;_; Some questions, answers, and comments get deleted but they count in trigger :-/

Hmm, I'll add that to my notes for this year.
That said, not much to do if someone's awarded a hat and then the trigger is later deleted. (Or worse, what if the trigger is deletion? Lol.)

@nobody That answer was posted outside winterbash though, no?

5:43 AM
Another user with slow trickle and high number of upvotes
> Too many requests. Wait 40 seconds before requesting this resource again.
-_-

6:06 AM
@Slate Trigger for Slow Trickle: For >15 upvotes on questions/answers. (Not on meta)

6:21 AM
@Wolgwang then why has everyone started getting it now?

@double-beep Had anyone got 15 upvotes before? (during WB)

@Wolgwang you want me to link to a post with 15+ score?

@double-beep Yes

does MSE count?

Nope
20 mins ago, by Wolgwang
@Slate Trigger for Slow Trickle: For >15 upvotes on questions/answers. (Not on meta)

@double-beep Oh :-/ I thought large number of upvotes and HNQ are the only thing common.
@double-beep Maybe 15 upvotes over a span of 2 days? What do you think?
(Maybe slow in slow trickle refers to this)?

I think we can test CDJB's theory on my answer here.
it gets upvotes every day since it was posted

@double-beep Also it is 2 days old so it is worth trying :)
But it is on meta!

5 hours ago, by CDJB
I reckon it’s for getting an upvote on a post on four separate days [in a row].
@Slate can you confirm ^ that?

Trigger for helping arm: Post a positively scored comments under a user's first answer.
@double-beep What do you think about this?

6:47 AM
the only thing Natty (a bot) does is flag NAAs and leave comments under them
and it doesn't have the hat

@double-beep New user?
@AnkitSharma Your position is in danger now. XD

7:08 AM
@Wolgwang I never won 😂 max I was no 2

7:26 AM
@AnkitSharma That's why you will win this time :) (Motivation 💯)

@CDJB cc @Wolgwang This guess is one inch away.
Refine it further.
:)

@Slate For minimum atleast 15 upvotes...

Er, crap, I meant to cc @double-beep also

7:53 AM
I voted here and @AnkitSharma got the hat.
2 days ago , yesterday , 7 hours ago , today
3 days?

@Slate can you clarify what "Reviews without votes" means?
reviews where the post has no votes or reviews where I'm the only reviewer?

8:17 AM
@Wolgwang thanks

8:28 AM
I got the Spotting Scope on SOpt without any flagging, but I did some reviews, so it might be related to closed questions and flag/vtc

8:40 AM
@RafaelTavares I am damn sure it is not related to some review privelege.

8:57 AM
I got it on SO too without close/reopen review queues access. It still may be related to flagging/voting to close. I'm saying this because both times I got the hat while I was sleeping, so something happened without me having to do anything

9:30 AM
@Wolgwang Sry, I got it over night. I really cannot reconstruct the trigger =/

9:59 AM
@Slate Do you know if starting a bounty on a Q stops me from getting the "Spotless" hat? It's not really an edit, but it shows up in the history and bumps the question, which is why I'm a bit afraid depending on how the hat was implemented.

2 hours later…
11:42 AM
@double-beep This user also got upvotes on a post for four separate days but doesn't have the hat. Maybe we can try to guess from here.

perhaps the post shouldn't have any downvotes?

12:04 PM
@double-beep Neither of the 5 users have!

which are the 5 users?

@Slate Slow trickle for getting an upvote on a post on four separate days [in a row] without a downvote on the post.
@Wolgwang @double-beep + CDJB + AnkitSharma + You
7 users

1 hour later…
1:27 PM
Unless it specifically mentions meta sites, are all hats only earned by actions on main sites? E.g. if you post two "well-liked" comments on a meta site but not on main, will you get Starfish?
(ignoring MSE, of course)

2:08 PM
7 hours ago, by Wolgwang
Trigger for helping arm: Post a positively scored comments under a user's first answer.
Can someone test this?

2:20 PM
@Wolgwang I guess it's ongoing. I've got helping hands, I suspect the "next level" of it is helping arm. If so, I need more positively scored comments.

Can someone upvote a comment on math.SE? (De-upvote it after 5 minutes)
@VLAZ Nah, Helping hands requires more than one comment?

@Wolgwang Yes, I think it's helping finger -> helping hands -> helping arm

I have got finger and hands but not arm. XD

Although, I don't know how many upvoted comments I have on first questions.
@Wolgwang Same

19 hours ago, by Wolgwang
Can anyone make sense of the Helping hand awarded here :
19 hours ago, by Wolgwang
Indeed! Yes, I'm a relatively senior citizen, so maybe culture has drifted, but I myself would never address someone by their first name if I didn't know them! In "my culture", being "on-a-first-name-basis" means some acquaintance: perhaps extended family, perhaps friendship, perhaps work-related. The only people you'd address by their first name without prior acquaintance would be children. :) — paul garrett yesterday

2:29 PM
Hmm, then my theory was incorrect. I just used the logic finger -> hand -> arm as increasing size. So, I thought it's the same trigger with increasing number of comments needed.

@VLAZ Can you test my theory?
8 hours ago, by Wolgwang
Trigger for helping arm: Post a positively scored comments under a user's first answer.

2:45 PM
OK, I'll try to find a first answer with a comment in that case.
OK, found one. Now we wait.

@VLAZ I have found such answer Waiting for upvote...

@Wolgwang Also upvoted your comment.

@VLAZ :-/ 5 minutes have passed...

It's been almost 10 minutes since I upvoted the other ones and the user still hasn't gotten the hat. Might be that the answer is too old (? it's from 15th of December) or maybe the comment needs to be upvoted more within a shorter timeframe.

Will I lose my starfish hat if I delete one of the comments > 5 votes? It was mainly a comment to remind the user to write in English and after they edited their post, the comment is not really needed anymore

2:57 PM
@JasperHabicht Nope...

@Wolgwang What makes you that sure?

I don't think hats are ever retracted.

9 hours ago, by Slate
That said, not much to do if someone's awarded a hat and then the trigger is later deleted. (Or worse, what if the trigger is deletion? Lol.)

Last year, for example, a trigger was broken and a bunch of people got a hat they didn't earn. The trigger was fixed and the hat was left.

@VLAZ Only in bug

2:59 PM
@Wolgwang Okay, thanks! =) Would be a shame

@VLAZ Ugh! No hat.

Slow trickle? It gets fancier every day ...

Haven't recieved any hat for 48 hours :'-)

@Wolgwang Hmm... so, are we sure it's comment-based?

yesterday, by Catija
@Wolgwang No. Each version of that chain of hats adds a new element. They're not just multiplicative of each other.
Yes IMO

3:14 PM
Yes, I also think it makes sense.
Here is another factor the only recent comment by the user with Helping Arm is that the comment was posted, then the answer was edited afterwards.

@VLAZ Ah! Let me check this other questions.

Rob
@Slate, I don't see any hints about the "Gem ..." hats; which have the trigger: "Cast X upvotes on questions that stay open" - How long do they have to stay open? - I've cast more than 30 votes on questions that are certain to be open, with 10 needed for one of the hats and 30 for the second. Thanks.

@Rob 4 days, no?

@Rob "About this hat" gives more info

Rob
I'll look at About - rollovers aren't obvious on touchscreen. Thanks.
@Wolgwang, @double-beep Thanks:
Doh! Ahha, varies from: "Cast 10 upvotes on questions less than two days old, 80% of which are still open after four days." to "Cast 50 upvotes on questions when they are less than two days old, 95% of which are still open after four days." - Now I feel dumb.
I wish the Hat List had that included as a second paragraph for each hat.
Last year had the extra info for every hat, and 2 years ago had the extra for most of the hats (but not as good as last year). --- This year there is nothing but the minimum.

@Slate Helping hands: Post three positively scored comments under a users' first post and the OP edits the question after the comments?
Similar...

@VLAZ ask the mods to confirm this one please. Sounds like a promising trigger

4:01 PM
@CinCout It was a pure guess. Feel free to ask, if you wish, I am personally not certain. Might be more to it than just that - e.g., upvoted comment and the answer gets edited, then later it gets an upvote.

@CDJB Yeah, you're right.
In other news, I received Two Buried Pennies on cryptography while I was away. My only action there was suggested edits, but they had been approved quite a while ago.

@Rob done

@double-beep +1

@CinCout Might want to test it first. Anybody got an answer with an upvoted comment?
Would testing answer related triggers in the sandbox work?

@VLAZ Why are you sure about 'answer'?

4:14 PM
@Wolgwang I'm not. As I said, I'm guessing.

@VLAZ No comment on any answer but have the hat math.stackexchange.com/users/108274/…

The comment you're specifically referencing - I was talking about an answer. A user has the hat, they have a single recent comment, the comment was on an answer, the answer was edited after the comment. I just described that. Didn't claim it was the trigger, wondered if it was.

So hard :-/

Linearity for $m$ (a constant). — Mauro ALLEGRANZA 22 hours ago
comment on a question though

Rob
@double-beep Yikes, collision. We should have conferred. Mine was longer so it was accepted. Thanks though.
I can't help but think that distinguishing between the description and the extra advice, and adding a new line, improves the edit.

4:22 PM
I’m pretty sure the buried pennies ones are suggested edits on a post which goes on to receive an upvote, right?

@CDJB No...according to my edit here

I'm pretty sure Slow Trickle is "upvotes on 4 days in a row, no downvotes", as I just got an upvote on the fourth day in a row on one of my answers, and it hasn't been downvoted

@cairdcoinheringaahing Haven't got any reply from staff...

@Slate Slow trickle for getting an upvote on a post on four separate days [in a row] without a downvote on the post.

@Wolgwang Did you also receive two buried pennies for it?

@nobody Nope only single

4:30 PM
I think one buried penny is for approved suggested edit to an old post, and two buried penny is for when that post gets upvoted

@nobody You can test it by upvoing it ...

@Wolgwang Upvoted...

What?

@Wolgwang Your chance for the unicorn :)
@Wolgwang got the hat?

@nobody Nope

4:42 PM
This is so hard...

@nobody Do you see the same?

@Wolgwang yes

This user has the slow trickle from a post with just 6 votes
At this point, CDJB's initial guess is the only possibility

@nobody Uhm...we are quite close to its trigger
5 hours ago, by Wolgwang
@Slate Slow trickle for getting an upvote on a post on four separate days [in a row] without a downvote on the post.
Matched with 8 users :)

4:48 PM
Oh right. You've already asked for confirmation.

Rob
@Wolgwang I think it might be derived from one of these: winterba.sh
or Carl Fredrickson.

@Catija Is this the entire criterion for Manual Key?
"Copy something from the question/answer body on a Meta site (MSE included). The question must be tagged as [feature-request] or [discussion] (localized tags on localized SOs won't trigger this hat)."
Currently playing under a question on SE Meta, with no joy - https://meta.superuser.com/questions/14592/make-it-harder-to-generate-the-bot-message-please-clarify-your-specific-problem - [will tidy up once we're done ;)
Additional note… How does the system know if/when I copy/paste? That sounds rather dark.

@Tetsujin feature request is wrong. Only discussion works
@Tetsujin we built a thing for April fools

Reviews without votes don't count! means ??

@nobody Haha
Catija, Can you confirm this?

@Slate Slow trickle for getting an upvote on a post on four separate days [in a row] without a downvote on the post.

@Catija Do i just need to wait for the next cron job to tick over then?

@AnkitSharma Just saw your question on movies and tv meta XD

@Wolgwang Annoucement was pending

@AnkitSharma Welcome back mod

thanks
wow I am still leading somehow
This 7 day voting on same hour is so weird hat
weekend I miss

5:33 PM
How did I earn "Manual key" on MSE? My last activity was Nov 21?

@DavidPostill Copying something from a meta post with [discussion] tag

Rob
There doesn't need to be "activity", just the copy on your browser; don't even have to paste

@RafaelTavares Ah, I copied something from a post on MSE to paste into another post on Meta Super User so I earning it twice! :)

Anyone want to propose theory for Trialogue hat on the basis of this question ?
Post a question (+ve score)+ Recieve an answer=Monologue
Comment under that answer -> Dialogue
Answer is edited after a third user comments-> Trialogue?

5:49 PM
I think trialogue is just "answer is edited after you (the question OP) comment under it"

@CinCout @nobody Had we tested that?

6:04 PM
@Wolgwang Nope. If @CinCout is around, they can try editing the answer.

this user earned both buried hats from this edit

6:30 PM
@nobody tell me what you guys are talking about?

@CinCout Edit your answer here to see if trialogue is edit: meta.stackexchange.com/a/374151

@Peilonrayz just did
Let me know

Nice, thanks
Woot nobody got Trialogue

guys, can I get a couple of upvotes here? stackoverflow.com/a/70379719/2912665
also upvote the question please

done and done

6:37 PM
if you want to take the vote back later, let me know and I will edit the posts

@CinCout Earned trialogue

@nobody wanna try the quadalogue (accept)?

Yep

@nobody yayy. so what's the trigger?

16 hours ago, by Peilonrayz
7 hours ago, by Peilonrayz
I'm guessing; Monologue is A asks, B answers -> Dialogue add A comments -> Trialogue add B edits -> Quadalogue add A accepts, in order.

6:39 PM
whoa. @Peilonrayz nailed it!
get the mods to confirm?

Just let me test Quadalogue, then we will ping them

@nobody cool
@nobody thank you.

@Peilonrayz no hat for accepting after 7 mins

Ah darn D:

@Catija @slate can you confirm that Trialogue is dialogue plus answer edited by answerer?

7:18 PM
how many suggested edits for the penny hat?

@CinCout I think it's just one, but the post has to be older than certain amount of time

@nobody ah ok. no wonder I didn't get it
also are we sure about the Thought Bubble trigger?
I should have got it on Literature, but I have not

@CinCout It was confirmed by slate

@CinCout Well, your chat user is parented to stackoverflow, so you will only get it there
Unless you change your chat parent. In which case, it will automatically be awarded on that site as well

7:25 PM
@nobody what difference changing it makes?
to me as a user i mean

Nothing
It only makes a difference for mods

ah ok
thanks mate
@nobody how old?

8:04 PM
@CinCout I think six months should be enough, but we haven't narrowed it down precisely yet.

8:14 PM
@nobody okie

3 hours later…
11:16 PM
@nobody Correct, confirmed, congratulations! :)

11:35 PM
Cool

@Slate Could you confirm if Matryoshka is for the Popular Question Badge?

@nobody It isn't 6 months...

One vote here would give Kitsune

It should be on its way...

11:44 PM
Thanks @Wolgwang
Kitsune arrived
15 hats

Oh! I forgot we are enemies. XD

XDD
Any idea of how you got helping hand

Yes.
