@JNat Is this an election that must be competitive, or is that only graduation elections?

@KenGraham After rethinking of life priorities and other commitments I have decided to withdraw my nomination at this time. I feel this community will be best served by another moderator who can dedicate more time and who has already done exemplary moderation duties. Please consider to nominate yourself. You have my vote!

@SteveTaylor @curiousdannii Thank you for welcoming my nomination. However, after rethinking of life priorities and other commitments I have decided to withdraw my nomination at this time. As I already have enough points to do some moderation tasks I can help out the way other users have been, although I probably do more content instead.

@GratefulDisciple No worries, thanks for considering it.
12 hours to go, hopefully we'll get more nominations. I'm really quite surprised there weren't more.

Yeah, a lot of people have expressed strong opinions about how the site is moderated - I'm surprised nobody's really wanting to help with that.

@curiousdannii that's only graduation elections, and any election that comes after that one.

12:47 PM
@JNat Do you mean you do want at least 2 candidates for this election?

@curiousdannii your election last year was a graduation election, I think, so yeah

Will the nomination period be extended another week? I expected this to be a robust election with lots of nominations, and am super surprised that people aren't nominating.
But maybe, as with so many other things, everyone is just tired. The pandemic has drained a lot of people

The nomination period will be automatically extended by the system for one more week if there are not enough candidates, yes.

@SteveTaylor Little Red Hen situation, perhaps?

GratefulDisciple mentions a concern about the time required to be a moderator. How much time is required to reasonably discharge one's duties as a moderator? Also, can you provide some breakdown of the percentage of time that might be dedicated to the different responsibilities? Finally, is there a public list of current nominees? Thank you.

@MartinHemsley "is there a public list of current nominees?" The election page on the top right indicates "candidates 0", meaning that currently there are no nominees.

@SteveTaylor "a lot of people have expressed strong opinions about how the site is moderated". I would be surprised if by strong opinions you mean ones that express dissatisfaction. I haven't seen any major issue so far. Based on my [arguably little] acquaintance with BH Meta, the moderation team is among the best I have seen on SE (and I am not trying to be obsequious: I can name counterexamples, but that is not what I intend).

9:45 PM
@MartinHemsley There's no required time for mod duties, but it is liable to soak up all your free time ;) Some days have a lot of flags that need attending to, some don't. 15-20 minutes/day would certainly be a big help.
