@KorvinStarmast @MikeQ I just realized that I don't think we ever properly searched the northeast room (the one just northwest of the kitchen) -
I think Seven found Odium in there just as the fight was ending and he was cowering in the corner, and then Seven made him come out, but we never searched the room itself. Probably worth checking before we move on.

@V2Blast I'll consider that a 'done thing' when I get home tonight, and I'll post a description in the r20 forum post. You have/had the eyes and people to take a look.
@V2Blast @MikeQ Mike, also, if we could use back room or maybe gmail or r20 PM for the conversation between you and Mack while you prepare the fish for lunch/dinner, it will allow a bit of exposition to come out 'more naturally' - shall we? @V2Blast I'll be posting the further exposition from Bayleaf in the r20 forum since Laz, Ignaz, Seven, and Bron will all be able to interact with him and he's a bard so he has a hard time shutting up anyway ...

@KorvinStarmast Velthiss would ask how long this crew has been on the island and what they've been doing there. He'd also express disapproval about the state of their kitchens.

@MikeQ The timeline is something like this. Bayleaf, of the survivors, is the one who has been there the longest. Mack has only been there a few months, and he was hired by the old man (the high priest, recently deceased during the fighing) a few months ago during an off hand discussion while some goods were being sold to a fence who Mack worked for.
Bayleaf and Ogmund did not Get along at all; Ogmund very much alpha male, had a string of victories (and trophies) from the very much illegal in Keoland but legal in some other places, blood sport/fight to the death contests that gladiators are good at. And he let anyone and everyone know it: more than once there was the old "I can kill you, and I might if you cross me." Ogmund and Ozymandias knew each other form before, long time ago.
Bayleaf was a superb teacher of basic blade and spear and dagger and crossbow skills to neophytes. A passable fencer as well. Remarkabley good in a tight spot, which they found themselves in quite a bit during the protracted battle against the Sea Prince reavers.
Longer time line I'll sketch in like this. The Salt Marsh reconnaisance party that landed on the beach was destroyed to a man (as far as Mack knows) but they while the reavers during made the last assault which ultimately drove the survivors underground, what with the roof being set fire again and the steele/tower/pinnacle coming crashing down. They've been living in the cellar for a little over a week with no way off the island, so far.
The recon mission reached the Island either 9 or 10 days ago. (Karl's own time line conflicts depending on which file I have open, I need to resolve that argument with myself).
The seige / attack had begun three days before that; it came as a surprise. Were it not for the undead in the dunes creating a non trivial obstacle for the reavers to overcome, the midnight raid would have likely been a 'coup de main' and overrun the temple, and the inhabitants, in a single battle.
With the warning the old man and his various subordinates were able to put together a stout defense.
The old man died as a result of a bunch of crossbow bolts hitting him at once: someone on the reaver side, after the initial repulse of the attack on the abbey had identified him as a critical leader; he was organizing a counter attack to an assault that in retrospect was designed to get him to expose himself.
The arrival of Fluta and Sieur Loinell; two or three days before the attack. They arrived with the last load of contraband/fenced goods before the reavers dropped their surprise attack on the Island. She knew the old man from way back. She did not know Ozy, nor respect him.
The Abbey had been on this Island for years and years; it wasn't always a cult site for worship of the sea deity - if it is even the sea that the Old Man worshipped. The rituals they performed had once included a kidnapped woman who'd been delivered with fenced goods by reavers. It was done by the cliffes to the east, and Mack refused to even get near to the event. Gave him the creeps.
(As Seven and Ignaz were discovering, the older construction seems to have been some kind of dragon cult, but that's even longer ago)
Fluta tid bits: an outgoing and strong willed person. Sieur was from minor nobility in Monmurg, family raised cattle {think Black Angus Beef quality} he was a knight seeking renown and increase in status. Told Mack he'd met Fluta while recruiting a small raiding party for a mission he'd been offered by some mysterious stranger; meeting her had changed his life and he came with her when she headed to the Island.
Odi Tidbit: Sieur had briefly shared with Mack that Odie was a rich scion of a noble family near Monmurg. He'd come of age, gone to schools had private tutors. He'd refused his family vis a vis a betrothal so he'd been sent to a seminary/monastery to see if he'd the aptitude to be a priest. Much to the surprise of many, he wasn't just an apt pupil, he was a natural.

How he got recruited into the cult Sieur did not know. Some months ago, Fluta had already found him and made a man out of him before she headed into the mountains ... but she was in a huuuuge way the dominant personality between the two ... he was a boy toy to her. He was infatuated with her, and miserable that there was a third party at the dock the day they sailed for the island. He didin't have the guts to turn his back on her, or her promise of new lore for the cult .... on the island ...
At this point, Mack will not be able to help heave a heavy sigh and roll his eyes. Freakin' rich kid ... easy prey for a wiley woman like Fluta.
The cult kept the community of a manageable size over the years by dubious means. They had women and men as disciples. Each child was presented to the High Priest for approval. (This Mack learned from Ozy) The stone altar on the cliffs was prepared for a rite on the night of the new moon after the baby was born. Sometimes, the baby would come back to the abbey, and grow up there. Sometimes, the newborn would end up in the sea. Ozy offered no fruther detail; Mack didn't press it
Sometimes, those who grew up would be sent out into the world as disciples or agents ... Mack knows nothing more about that.
Mack Sorley has been on the island between three and fourn months. He needed to lay low. After mustering out of the Keoland army, some things happened (he does not specify) and some official in the north where Mack had is 40 acres and a well (his pension) had managed to pull some legal shennanigans and get his land. If Velthiss presses Mack says this: "Nobody can charge me if they never find the body. There was nothing left for me there: I hired out to them as needed a blade and paid"
On the state of the kitchen: "I often cook my own meals out of doors of late. Just like back in the Army. Before the assault, we had our kitchen/meals up stairs. This temporary set up has a lot of drawbacks, but we're alive ... so far ... "
What was I doing here? Old man wanted / needed more than just trained levies/recruits as security for two reasons. Some night, those damned skeletons wander the Island in largeer amounts than he or Ozy could turn or disperse. And, if you are a priest/abbot, you always need muscle on hand when you deal with the reavers. Always The business relationship was long standing, but it wasn't cordial.

6:37 PM
@MikeQ that exposition mostly takes place as you put dinner together, and organize a table from the various wrecked things from the recent fight (the table the three had been eating upon got wrecked by a bear grappling Odie)
@MikeQ Mack says to you: "I've never seen anyone like you. Your command bears to appear and defeat your enemies. You then help to heal your enemies. You nearly threaten to bite the bard, and then you feed him. You put out the fire on your enemy's head while your own allies are content to watch her burn. You walk into a kitchen that isn't your own and you prepare as fine a meal as I've seen made from fish in a few years. And you are of the lizardfolk."
"Who are you? What brought you here?" He adds "The only lizard folk I'd ever encountered before was in a skirmish in the Hool marshes well north and west of here, over 15 years ago. Two renders did for half of my squad. You don't look like them, and you don't act like them."
