Oy, sorry, forgot it was Sunday and never got a notif if you wanted to play today @Shalvenay.
Hi @trogdor

@SoraTamashii ah, I'm still working things out for our next session (or future gameplay, more precisely)

That's fair. :) I was actually going to try and round up some people for a one-shot in Discord at some point. If I ever get around to doing that, would you be interested?

@SoraTamashii I would be cool with that, what system and conceits/motifs were you thinking of?

I'm planning on using a modded version of 5E or my own system (I'm still undecided) with a Fate/Stay Night skin to it. The problem is, this kind of campaign would only work well as a one-shot if it starts off in battle-royale mode, every man for himself trying to go for the kill. Otherwise, if we want this to be a longer, more strategy oriented campaign, it may need to be more than a one-shot, but I figured I would leave the choice up to the players as I could do either.

Basically, the premise is this: all players (up to 7, but probably 4-5 really) will be mages fighting in a holy grail wa
It's a simple premise where the story is minimalist and the writing itself would be mostly in the character backgrounds and their characterizations moreso than anything. The bulk of the writing is for the events that occur moreso than anything. Basically, a fun action-focused campaign allowing people the ability to try and outsmart their opponents, where any secret actions can be expressed to me via DMs.

@SoraTamashii whose history? :)

Real World: Urban Fantasy setting as opposed to your standard medieval fantasy. Meaning, you can be a mage who casts the most powerful of magic spells: Gun. xD

@SoraTamashii because I could see this being really awkward for players who aren't well-attuned to reasonably modern military history
is it that the mages are sort of looking down on the arena from above, with the familiars fighting each other, or are we talking about the mages being on the ground as well (and thus, vulnerable to attack)?

5:44 AM
also, what's the scope of war-materiel involved here? are we talking infantry with man-portable weapons, or ...?

6:00 AM
@SoraTamashii ah hi
sorry about the late response
it's been a weird day

6:12 AM
Clarity: It's history, legends, and mythology and the Heroes summoned have Noble Phantasms: weapons that are the embodiment of their legends. (King Arthur with Excalibur, Shakespeare's First Folio, and Gilgamesh's treasury the "Gates of Babylon" even though Babylon came long after Gil's reign.)

Also, the mages (henceforth "Master") are on the ground fighting alongside their summoned Heroic Spirit (henceforth "Servant"). There are generally 2 ways to win: 1) Kill the Servant, thus meaning the Master has no weapon remaining. While the Master can always form a new pact with a Servant who lost
Hey again Trog, sorry for the delay in replying. Was typing a novel. xD
@Shalvenay, if you want details on the background information, I can link you to choice articles from the Wikia of the Source Material.

@SoraTamashii I think it's a fair excuse XD

Lol ikr? xD

Basically (a SUPER-short explanation unlike my previous essay):
You're a "magus" or "mage" (same term, same meaning, no difference between them). You're fighting 6 other mages. All 7 mages have performed a ritual that summons forth a Heroic Spirit to be your familiar/Servant, figures from history who have left their mark on the world and in human memory. (Most HS's are supposed to be real people. Some are fictional.) Using magic and your skills, you fight alongside your Servant to defeat the other 6 Master/Servant pairs. The winning team fulfills their wish. The setting is modern day. You (

@SoraTamashii -- I have a bad feeling that the last century of military history is very unkind to the conceit of this game. put simply, "how does a magus counter a sniper without getting stuck hiding in their basement all the time?" never mind how much of a problem that'd pose for most of the other options that folks would envision for their Heroic Servant....

Put simply: Abilities of the heroes are made to match their legends. That said, the only listed Gunner-Class Servants so far in canon are Billy the Kid and a source-material character who was a mystery but not real so would be excluded from my campaign. That said, I could build a character around an existing deceased sniper if I think the person in question fits the bill for being a Heroic Spirit, but otherwise, the Servants for the Holy Grail War themselves (generally) fill one of seven Class archetypes:

@SoraTamashii yeah -- one does have to be more conversant with their military history to even be familiar with names like Simo Hayha or Carlos Hathcock.
