9:50 AM
[applies thermal packs]
@JonathanHobbs Do you have any ideas/desires about the game that you'd like to start with?

Um! None in particular.
Are we playing FAE or Core?

This is your game, prepping for your run this weekend, so it's your choice.

Well, FAE in that case.

Setting/genre should be something we're both reasonably familiar with.

Fantasy, science fiction (including more down to earth stuff like Firefly), modern day, Western, Cave men...

9:57 AM
Let's see.
Stuff that doesn't need too much detailed knowledge. Points of Light, Mythos, Enchanted Forest...
Sherlock Holmes type adventure would be interesting to explore, but perhaps too challenging for a first-time-out. And better in Core.

Why better in Core?

Holmes gets Fate points for being a drug-addled jerkface, and spends them to Declare Story Details to support whatever conclusion he's drawn.

Holy shit XD
That is good

That's how a mystery should play out in Fate, I think: the players use their narrative control to shape the solution.
What do you feel like tonight?

I feel like anything prior to modern day
Cave men requires no detailed knowledge at all beyond having seen the apparently inaccurate portrayals of dinosaurs in Jurassic Park
Fantasy settings are aplenty
Even prohibition-era stuff would not be off limits
Or some game where we make a mockery of gentlefolk

10:07 AM
Okay. What kind of conflict would you like to run? Social, physical?
Eh, scratch that.
Let's do this the way I did in my first improv Fate game.

What was the way in which you did it?

Give me the start of a High Concept and I'll finish it.
I gave BenHardy "Gunslinging" and he said "Clown."

Cave men arguing
Oh :D
... on a bus

For a game concept?

Yes. Cave men who have been thrown forward in time and found themselves in a busy city, and have been here a day or two and are acclimating surprisingly well (but not very well)

10:11 AM
That's... rather ambitious.
[ponder]
Something that'll lend itself to in medias res, clear goals and obvious conflicts, so we can focus on the mechanics and not belabor the story.

Oh, alright.

Okay, how about a Prohibition/Humphrey Bogart type of thing.

Well, if it was me I'd just have fun being a cave man in a somewhat absurd situation.
Actually it comes to mind I probably don't know nearly enough about the prohibition era :(

Have you seen Casablanca?
Don't worry about it being Prohibition specifically. Lots of smoke-filled rooms, mafia types that talk through their noses.

I... haven't seen it yet, no :(

10:17 AM
Hmm. Okay, if you don't feel comfortable with it, scratch that.
I can try an Og. It'll be a stretch for me, but let's give it a shot.

It will be? o:
Wow I kinda imagine being a caveman would be a bit simple but then maybe it just plays right into my sense of humour and stuff
Is Problematic playing tonight?

I haven't been able to raise him.
Leaving one aspect blank.
Actually, leaving all of them blank except my trouble and HC.

Near-sighted :)

I'll start with just one stunt, too.
I thought that would give some good entertainment.

Are you comfortable playing a cave man?
Is there something you'd rather play around with?

10:24 AM
Moderately?

I am far from attached to the cave man thing.
I think it'd be neat but if there's something you'd be more comfortable with I am here with open ears and an open mind

I dunno, I'm sorta braindead.
I'd like to try out some social conflict.

Ah. Maybe we should do it tomorrow?
I have some other stuff I could/should be busy with!

If you can do it now, we should.
Once I get into a groove I'll be okay, I think.
Let's stick with the caveman and see where it leads.
Need a stunt...

Hm <_>
Or a +2 to trying to be intimidating?
Forcefully trying to create advantages through intimidation

10:30 AM
Let's keep it simple for starters.
I have two more stunt slots.
So as I discover him, he'll get more stunts.

I have not yet read the GMing section of the Fate Core book
and will need to do that later + tomorrow
