Sometimes I need to bring a chip close to the lens, so the camera can eventually focus it, either automatically or manually...The stuff written on the chips or breakout boards may not be visible, but still informative...

note that isn't a particularly good product, but it might get the job done for cheap

it also might be a total waste, but it sounds like you want something in that vein, otherwise you are looking at buying a camera with macro capability which is most generally going to be hundreds of dollars
