@ElementsinSpace Yeah, well answers on this site doesn't normally get tons of upvotes. Don't know if it's because we don't have much traffic or because users hold back their upvotes a bit. The culture might differ from stack to stack. And besides that, the question you answered hasn't really attracted much attention. It's not really interesting to graphic designers as they have much better tools than Preview. But it's a nice hack nonetheless. 😀
I presume a duplicate has already been asked. Not about the volleyball, but something else. At the end of the day, it depends on the font. I doubt that Unicode specifies what colour the volleyball emoji shall have.
@Wrzlprmft The photo has yellow and white. If most people recognize volleyball as yellow, the emoji is chosen as yellow instead of white. It is natural reason why emoji is white. There are a lot of emojis for rugby, soccer and basketball, etc.(
@kimiTanaka I don't think you can ever be sure unless you can ask the font designers. I think emojis aren't really supposed to be a realistic and up to date depiction of things. They are supposed to be easily recognizable. I hadn't noticed that volleyballs have changed color to yellow. I remember them as white, so the emoji works for me.
You could ask similar questions about many emojis. For example the soccer ball/football (⚽). It shows a design which isn't really used in professional football anymore. But it looks like I remember a football.
