Q: how do you plan your teams collective design output in a decentralised workflow

Ameen AkbarI work with a creative team that designs banners for the homepage and landing pages in an e-commerce website and app. These banners are in fixed placements and the campaigns in each of these banners make up the overall look and feel of the page. each of these banners has significant monetary valu...

@WELZ anything that explains an effort or attempt

12:03 PM
hey @DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ how are you?

good, how have you been?

pretty okay. lots of work and it's getting more and more fun :)

12:22 PM
@Vincent I disagree with some points on that article

I think a lot of people did...

@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ There was a lot of outrage about this certain points on Meta and Tavern. (and in pretty much every chat room)

@WELZ ya, keep pissing on who feeds your company what ya going to do? In reality there needs to be a lot of other issues addressed. Eventually if stuff like this continues to annoy people they'll go and make something else.
if this is true I'd like to see resolution for the new user though: news.ycombinator.com/item?id=16934942
I want to start a chat with this: I have a question I've been debating in my head for years that I want to discuss after reading the recent blog post. Has it ever been considered by staff as a possible issue to the way new users take SO is that SE doesn't do it's best effort at explaining how the site works?

12:43 PM
@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ I think the answer is yes, because the article literally says:
"Let’s make it easier for new users to succeed. No, I’m not shifting the blame. We set them up for failure, and our power users have been asking us to help them for ages. We’re planning to test a new “beginner” ask page that breaks the question box into multiple fields – one for each of the key things answerers need to help"
I think the "We set them up for failure" is a pretty clear mea culpa from SE

12:57 PM
@Vince how's it going without the diamond?

I'm actually happy that my votes are no longer binding

Now you can vote.

and I can try and get Marshal again
oh I could vote. But every vote I cast in any reveiw queue was immediately binding

Marshal is really hard for me to get since I got 3k
-_-

@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ I don't think it's meant as pissing on users. It's realising that they're doing something wrong

12:59 PM
I can imagine how you feel - once you get mod tools Lol

@WELZ I'm actually very disappointed that a constructive message like this has generated any outrage.

I haven't even had a chance to read it yet

I think the Stack Exchange model inherently trains its users to be hostile and unwelcoming
it's not necessarily a fault of the community members but a side effect of the structure of the site
just in regards to new users, not directed towards "women or people of color"

@JohnB agreed, I think any model that utilises reputation, XP or any other Fake Internet Points™ system will always result in elitist behaviour

So gamification is not as innocent as it seems

no, of course not. multiplayer games are a prime example of making it really hard to join an existing community after it has existed some time

1:39 PM
ah yeah. I never played any MMORPG just because of that reason
even the little bit of Hearthstone I played was mostly against the AI, because the opponents mostly annoyed the heck out of me
sad.

I distinctly remember first playing Counterstrike over at a friends place. I set him back three months of progress just by not knowing what to do and getting killed instantly time and time again.

I am not an online gamer in any way, but I read these articles about these extremely toxic trolls who just keep on racking up views and likes on twitch and YT.
I know I'm old, so I'm not ashamed to say: 'what has this world come to?'
in my time, the bullies were the bad guys.
now they rule the world.

TBH, I think this type of elitist behaviour (i.e. I've got more points than you) has always existed. The internet has just spawned an almost infinite number of communities, which all employ their own rep score, and has made this behaviour more visible.

twitch is just about one of the most racist and gender discriminating communities I know of
I'm sure there are hundreds that are worse but that's the only one I'm exposed to that really skeeves me out, I watch a lot of pro game tournaments on twitch

Q: How to get 10 different colors that are easily recognizable

sharkyenergyI do have a list of 10 teams, each team has its own color. I do have to make the graphic that shows the teams with the respective color, and would need a way to find 10 colors that are "different enough" to be recognizable. there are some conditions for the colors tough: no pink or similar ...

Does the fact that I'm mildly annoyed by pink being categorised as 'feminine' mean that I have finally crossed the border into SJW territory? :/

@Vincent I assume the asker is using scare quotes because they are equally annoyed.

good point
and nice edit :P

yeah, I think it's more of OP trying to avoid a 'I don wanna be mister Pink' scenario

3:30 PM
@Vincent making sure he keeps his status:
:P

@WELZ It's the most modding that I can do now. Trying to get clean :P
Of those 5 votes, four were 'leave open' :|

I did the most monday thing possible this morning
went to trim my beard, didn't realize the clipper guard was off

you broke your coffee machine?

goodbye beard

oops
babyface John

3:40 PM
RIP, 2011-2018

It'll be back in a week or two
my bf had to shave clean for a sleep test. I was not happy :)

awww
I feel like a part of me is missing, I have not been clean shaven since 2011

did your colleague stop you at the door?
'Sir, who are you and why are your trying to enter our premises?'

hahah
one said I look 5 years younger
obviously I'm telling everyone I did it intentionally
;D

suuuure
then, why would you ever switch off the clipper guard?
are you shaving your legs? :P

3:45 PM
hahah naw, I usually trim once a week but just take the guard off to keep my neckline clean on weekdays

@Vincent 🙄

@WELZ whah?

@JohnB your secret is safe with us!
7 years of work down the drain :(

...and then suddenly you discover your avatar pic is outdated :P

haha, should I update it until it's back

3:54 PM
there's still stubble

oh yeah no way was I actually getting a razor out :D
that'd just be crazy

stubble is half the work

I will endure this hardship

what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger
XD

4:38 PM
@JohnB that would really make you look like a babyface.

5:27 PM
@Vincent I think my only issue is they seem to disregard the fact that people just dont care to want to help themselves and only seek a quick solution. While there may be a variation of how its done and not in a condescending manner to inform the user I think that wasn't well discussed or addressed in the article. People dont even vote on any network like they used to years ago.

Q: 2018 Moderator Election Q&A - Question Collection

Grace NoteGraphic Design Stack Exchange is scheduled for an election next week, May 7th. In connection with that, we will be holding a Q&A with the candidates. This will be an opportunity for members of the community to pose questions to the candidates on the topic of moderation. Participation is complete...

oh boy oh boy

8:36 PM
I kinda saw it coming...

@JohnB let the fun start! :D

And it's so soon... :/
Blames @Vincent and @JohnB Lol

shrugs at @WELZ :P

bold prediction: the person with the highest rep will win

How many are we getting?
@JohnB Unfortunately, that's how a lot of folks pick candidates; based on rep, not based on merit.

8:39 PM
My guess would be two, but that's a wild shot in the dark

@WELZ pretty sure that has been highest rep has been the correlation for every GD.SE election :)

that means that Ryan and Darth are set to leave within 12 months o.O
@JohnB are you feeling like a boy? :P

....dammit

oh man oh man oh man
barely rescues his masculinity :P :P :P

much better, much much better.
So, @Vincent , are you missing em tools yet? (now's your chance)

8:45 PM
nope
and don't forget I'm still a room owner here :)
gotta go

Good night
We're getting 1 position

@JohnB Fortunately, reputation isn’t even shown on the election page anymore, so I presume people will blindly vote according to candidate score now – which is slightly better.

@Wrzlprmft It shows Rep Bracket (in thousands)

@WELZ Yes, but only up to 20 k. After all, half of the candidate score is made up by reputation.

@Wrzlprmft how do you manage moderating 3(?) communities?

9:10 PM
@WELZ Typical moderating isn’t more workload than intensive reviewing; it’s just different, and sometimes there is something big going on. The daily task of moderators is to take care of the flag queue, which is quite manageable (at least for the communities I am moderating). What takes somewhat more time are political activities and special events (such as trolls), but they are usually not urgent (of course, suspending the troll is urgent, but that’s not what takes time).

Q: Convert file from Adobe Illustrator to TikZ

SebastianoYet I can not find a way in Adobe Illustrator to convert an image to any format in TikZ and PGF. TikZ is build on top of PGF and allows you to create sophisticated graphics in a rather intuitive and easy manner. It can produce portable graphics in both PDF and PostScript formats using either pla...

Thank you to everybody.
