I just realized, I'm on the 2nd page for all time rep
#72

1:30 PM
@JohnB was it a total loss?
@WELZ congrats! :D

4 hours later…
5:24 PM
@Vincent not sure, they didn't say a lot about it in their conference
@WELZ niiice
keep climbing!

@Vincent btw, I finally figured out what was bloating the file-size: It was because I had assets imported from photoshop that had rather large images as smart-objects contained in them. For some reason they apparently did not get downsized when exporting without PDF/X standards

Hi all

Heya Ryan

It must be Monday 0.0

it is the most monday monday I have had in a while
just did about 8 hours of work crunched into a 3 hour window because of a noon deadline

5:27 PM
ouch

I am not proud of any of that work
oh well, not my fault they didn't tell me until I got in today

you tell em!

haha
it didn't look awful, I just wasn't able to use the same workflow that I'd normally do
like if I had to go back and make a small edit I'd probably just have to start over

I wasted $500 earlier this year rushing something to print that looked like crap. I don't worry about it

well this was for a sales presentation for one of the big club stores so I worry a little about it
but the presentation is printed now so nothin I can do about it now!

5:37 PM
hakunamatata

indeed

of course me not worrying is because im ready to move on and have started applying elsewhere. if anyone knows of any openings :D

remind me, what do you currently do?

Marketing, Advertising, and Business Development all rolled up into one neat package.

how neat? :p

5:42 PM
neat enough that i sent out two applications so far and got two interviews :P

does your resume state that you love doing 3 jobs for the salary of one or did you leave that bit out?

@JohnB who says I have the salary of one? boom haha

maybe it's a salary of none

got em

@JohnB got who?

5:51 PM
Y-O-U
:D

and me
also announcement: I'm about to actually use the slice tool in Photoshop
2004 called they want their design tools back

@Ryan I've always wondered about your profile pic...

I've used Photoshop for like 25 years now and I've never once used the Slice tool :\
@WELZ congrats!

I used it for web design back when it was acceptable not the worst thing in the world to use tables for your layout

Does a proposal for an Animation Stack Exchange interest anyone?
2

6:05 PM
followed
ill try to add a few questions for you too

Thanks! @Ryan

@LateralTerminal sure thing. Feel free to return the favor :D area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/110851/sales-and-marketing -- need more questions and upvotes on questions below 10

if we got an ad on our site an the workplace, I think it would help it a lot.

I've always been interested in sales and marketing! You've got my support
@Ryan followed!

6:09 PM
@WELZ i think if people would ask questions and upvote ones below the 10 threshold it would help a lot.

@Ryan yes, I was saying to get more people involved

Example questions for anyone that would like to post but can't come up with anything: reddit.com/r/marketing

I'm asking because I don't know (not in a bad way)... is that a thing, to copy from reddit?

@LateralTerminal in Area51 the comments are really only to improve the questions but to answer your question. YouTube is a little different from most because its in a sense both a Channel and a Medium. More often though YouTube is a Medium.
Like TV is a Medium, YouTube is a Medium. NBC would be the channel, or Pew Die Pie would be the channel.

New question: "what is a channel in marketing terms" Lol

6:17 PM
@Ryan Gotcha. It's my first time in area51 I deleted that comment

You can advertise on TV across multiple channels, and you can advertise on YouTube across multiple channels - say by target demographic or keyword
@WELZ thats a fair question. Or "Whats the difference between Channels and Medium?"
print campaigns are another medium but the actual publication such as Sports Illustrated would be considered the Channel
while Sports Illustrated is a channel that you can run a cross media campaign using their print, website, and email to advertise on

@Ryan I was actually kind of suggesting you should clarify if you were talking about TV or Youtube because YouTube commonly refers to it's users as channels. And the marketing on YouTube is really crazy right now so I would assume you're talking about YouTube unless you say TV

@LateralTerminal I was actually referring in much broader terms. In my case an association

@Ryan Gotcha

@LateralTerminal but if you upvoted that question please remove it and upvote a different one
it pains me that there are 3 questions with 11 upvotes >.< you don't get to enter Beta until 30 questions have 10 upvotes and can only upvote 5 questions

6:29 PM
@Ryan XD
I actually naturally drift to the bottom and read up. I never upvoted that one

very valuable up-votes on a51

I didnt know that

top right of every proposal will tell you how far along it is
need 40 10+ questions in total

My question was

Are there any statistics on the successful usage of "razor and blade" marketing?

is that a good question for the site?
I used all my votes now

I like it. I'm out of upvotes though and can't help it along
Might be better to ask, "What models can be run to balance a razor and blade pricing strategy" or something

6:33 PM
If you've got a question for [Animation](http://area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/116611/animation)
Or you could upvote my question if you agree with it that is.
@Ryan Actually, I was asking if there were any statistics already produced. Isn't what you're saying a different question?
@Ryan Sorry not a marketing expert

yes its different

So can I post that as a separate question? @Ryan

but statistics doesn't really explain if you're wanting statistics about pricing, or what businesses have used the strategy, or the ratio of the razor to razor blade or what
sure two questions work but that first one should probably be a bit more specific on what statistics you're after

@Ryan Understood. So how would I ask specifically about what about what businesses have used the strategy successfully?

"Are there statistics from businesses that have successfully used razor and blade marketing"

Is that better?

hmm, "Is there any research that lists the businesses that successfully use a razor and blade marketing strategy?"
pretty sure there's no a comprehensive list as it would be nearly impossible though to account for small businesses
not that its a bad question because of that but a lot of people tend to downvote or close vote things that the answer is essentially no to.
(and I will come up with questions for your Animation proposal this evening, remind me tomorrow if I don't)

6:43 PM
@Ryan I've always been really interested in how Sega gave away Sonic for free with the Genesis in the 90s to compete with Nintendo. That's what inspired that question. It seems like they had good marketing ideas before it all went horrible wrong.
@Ryan Thank you:)

@LateralTerminal I'd just ask, "Are there any business studies that looked at SEGA giving away Sonic for free to compete with Nintendo?" seems good enough to me

@Ryan I changed it to that. Thanks for the help wording it!

sure thing! thanks for posting it!

3 hours later…
9:24 PM
@CrazyQwert Ah yeah that sounds logical

2 hours later…
10:57 PM
I don't know how this question has 2 upvotes? It is sooo overly broad!
