I voted don't think anyone else is in a voting state but if so I hope you vote too. History was never made by people too frustrated or apathetic to speak up.

thumbs up x infinity :D

I must go though. Got a lot to do and hoping to take a half day today. Later

1:22 PM
hey @Darth how's you?

trying to catch up. Finished a few widgets and moved a lot to pastebin last night
you doing ok?

yeah, I'm good
trying that release again later this week

CAI
@Darth_Vader got your widgets finished then? All working as intended now?

had a good night's sleep last night -- always helps
what kind of widgets are those?
and o/ @CAI

@CAI ya. looking at what other features I can migrate to. Mostly conditional items like footer do this and that based on this.

CAI
1:30 PM
@Darth_Vader Sounds good :)
@Vincent what is that? a wave?
lol

yup

CAI
o/

o/ o\ o/

CAI
lol

huh? is that you raising both your arms in the air? :P

CAI
1:32 PM
@Vincent @Darth either of you ever done any prestashop theme dev?

oh nice
nope @CAI I keep to WP -- I'm bad enough at that as-is :P

@CAI ya, pain.. gonna mess with woocommerce next, need to spend some time so I have an idea Ive sat on for awhile.

CAI
@Darth_Vader woocommerce is great, really easy to work with if your good with WP. only downside is shipping limitations
got a request to finish off someone elses prestashop project.. the guy ditched my client and dissapeared.. the whole thing looks a mess :(

I flatly refuse to do webshops. I'm a designer who happens to be able to do some WP coding, not the other way around :P

looking at utilizing shortcodes now. I prefer highlight.js because it supports AppleScript highlighting but crayon highlighter is what Im using. I was able to get it integrated in my blog posts but Ive had issues creating shortcode buttons

1:35 PM
@CAI two words: charge. hourly.

@CAI I would just re-do it.
may cost you less time

CAI
@Vincent they've got a budget so I'm just trying to figure out the easiest way for me to get it done for that
@Darth_Vader probably the best idea :) I'm gona dig in to it a bit more later but thats prob what ill do

@CAI let me know how it goes. Ive got a buddy that has one that needs a site and asked but im gonna have to step into APIs.
speaking of APIs Im looking at integrating Instagram and Etsy into a WP site

CAI
@Darth_Vader will do.. I've got to look in to Etsy api soon too so let me know how that goes!
anyway i'm off for some lunch

Id really like to figure out AJAX and how to post additional pages at the footer..

1:55 PM
Affinity just announced they're coming to Windows: affinity.serif.com/blog/affinity-is-coming-to-windows

CAI
@Darth_Vader AJAX in WP is a nightmare to get your head around but its actually pretty simple once you get used to it

ya, theres only been one SE post Ive found on it

Q: jQuery load Wordpress pages via ajax

davidcondreyI'm trying to setup a Wordpress theme which loads pages (not posts) with AJAX. I was following this guide but haven't been able to get the correct pages to load. The links to the posts are being generated with the post slug http://local.example.com/slug/ So I adjusted jQuery(document).rea...

@Ryan Ah. Hope they will be a good competitor to Ps. Adobe needs themselves some competition

@Ryan wonder if Adobe will buy them out

CAI
@Darth_Vader that looks like a horrible implementation. You don't need to hard code any urls or setup any extra pages or anything on the backend, you just create a function that sets up a new WP_Query, attach it to the wp_ajax_ hook and call that from your JS with the WP ajax url

Q: How to Load Ajax in Wordpress

graiI'm familiar with using ajax in the ordinary way with jQuery. I've played around it for a while, but don't understand what Wordpress needs to get it to work... What I have here is taken from some tutorial or article. This is in functions.php (in a child theme): // code to load jquery - working f...

2:07 PM
wonder why that question wasnt showing in my search?

CAI
came pretty high up in my search :)

guess I know what Ill be testing this weekend, lol

@Darth_Vader after yesterday's news I would think if anything a merge between Affinity and InVision will be more likely and a great move!
Shoot I should see if I can invest in them now haha

2:25 PM
should we should look into improving our close reasons?

Q: Improving some close reasons

Zach SaucierThe current close vote reason for help with implementation is as follows: If you're asking for help with implementation, please include what you've tried and why it didn't work with screenshots. Please edit your post with what your desired results are, what resources you referenced and why th...

hasn't it already been looked in to?

CAI
You could add in my style-id guidelines ;)
(that no one really seemed to take much notice of) :(
Have we got another dupe for this?

Q: what software to use to make large billboard banners

GeophasHow are you guys i wanted to know what design software can i use to make project that is 10m by 10m adobe photoshop and Illustrator seem like they have a limited meters in terms of canvas, or is it im missing something ?

the Q keeps coming up but they keep getting closed with the Q about resolution that doesnt mention scale at all

3:02 PM
@Darth_Vader You ever changed the output of the date/time tag on a comment?

yes

ooh, could you tell me how?

you have to be careful..

I just want to nix the time. Date's enough for me

you i will need to use the_time() not the_date()

3:03 PM
@Darth_Vader Is this what you mean for let the community decide? Because after John's improvement both were under 400 characters

@Darth_Vader meh, I don't even know where to hook it on :(

@ZachSaucier ya
hold on will help ya

Kk, good :)

@Darth_Vader take it easy, no stress. Low prio request ;)

there is a wp codex file that gives you a full list selection of all date fields

3:06 PM
thx, will look into it!

CAI
@Vincent You just pass the format as a string like <?php the_time('g:i a'); ?>

if you do use the_time() it will not validate theme check though

thing is... All I see is wp_list_comments() which is a black box to me :(

@CAI there is a wp codex that shows everything

and it doesn't have any arguments that allow me to edit the date

CAI
@Darth_Vader the_time() doesn't validate?

no, hold on will tell you the message.
INFO: At least one hard coded date was found in the file foobar.php. Consider get_option( 'date_format' ) instead.

Ah wait I found something. Seems like need to use a callback function

CAI
hmm.. fair enough, hard coded format is the error not actually the_time()

@CAI ya I could build it into a function I suppose

3:12 PM
...you are already over my head, but I found what I'm looking for :)
thanks!

CAI
@Vincent yeh with wp_list_comments you have to use a callback and output the whole comments yourself

@CAI that works just fine for this control freak

CAI
haha +1 I like how you work :)

@CAI I hate comments, just use Disqus plugin =P

CAI
@Darth_Vader yeh I've noticed a lot of people do that. always built my own comments from scratch

3:18 PM
I should but that is the only thing I cut corners on

CAI
yeh i dont blame you, it does get annoying

what do you do about spam?

akismet

CAI
@Darth_Vader honestly.. nothing that works well enough
tried a few plugins. i think captcha works best, still not perfect though

ya I couldnt find a great solution so that is why I do Disqus.
plus works well with my responsive sites

4:00 PM
Afternoon guys, just an FYI, a few of the product design team at Stack have suggested a new site in Area 51. I thought a few of the regulars in here might be interested area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/96734/digital-product-design

CAI
@Stevie Looks interesting.. seems there would be a bit of overlap with UXSE and GDSE from looking at example Qs

@Stevie yeah why make another stack when UX and GD cover it already. What's unique to that stack?

@CAI agreed

0
Q: What makes this proposal unique?

RyanProposal: Digital Product Design With graphicdesign.stackexchange.com and ux.stackexchange.com already existing what is unique about this Stack that isn't already covered? This seems superfluous to me.

@Ryan I think the aim is to have it less general design priciples and more specific digital design / workflow type things

CAI
4:09 PM
I don't think it's all overlap.. definitely some overlap though

@Ryan lol I asked, too.

Almost every example question so far looks to fit somewhere else to me already. though most would be closed for being too broad anyways

CAI
anyway i've got errands to run. later people

2 hours later…
5:55 PM
@Zach is dead and blacklisted, thanks for the cleanup effort

\o/ yay

6:19 PM
do we have a question on browser emulation services? I thought we did but I can't find it

2 hours later…
yes, that's the one I was thinking of thanks

No problem!

I'm usually quite content with 2 monitors and always found a third to go unused, but man when I have to do some forensic accounting I wish I had a separate monitor for each item I need to reference. So right now, like 6 :P
or maybe just a couple ultrawides

8:09 PM
I find I use 1 primarily. When I get to making sites or something more involved 2 seems plenty
I use a small software called AquaSnap to allow me to position up to 8 programs easily on my 2 screens though
it allows easy gridification of programs running

oh yeaaah I love AquaSnap :)
sometimes the little snap graphic gets stuck on my screen though

one of the few software that I happily pay for
ya, sometimes it keeps them partially transparent which is annoying

definitely worth the cost. The problem I have now is largely the fault of QuickBooks though, they have atrocious UX.

I hate poor UX :(

In order to use two monitors, I need to stretch the whole QuickBooks window across both. No dragging sub-windows outside the main window. And I can't open two documents of the same time at the same time. So only one invoice, one payment, and one sales order etc
the absolute worst UX aspect of QuickBooks in my opinion is that they force keybindings on you that override native OS shortcuts. so Ctrl + A opens up the Chart of Accounts window instead of selecting all text in the textbox you are currently in
I would like to have a word with whoever thought this was okay

8:16 PM
@JohnB oh gosh

no way to change the shortcuts either, of course.

8:53 PM
@JohnB How should we flag partially helpful sarcastic comments?
rude? Custom?
going with rude

@ZachSaucier perfect, and thanks for leaving the other comment too

np
won't he not see the link since you removed the comments though?

uhmmm I am not sure actually
you are probably right

9:29 PM
I sent them a message with the link

email? Or do you guys have some way of messaging users?

both, we have a way of messaging users that automatically gets sent to their e-mail :p

well, the e-mail bit is optional but enabled by default
