12:57 AM
@Ryan indeedy thanks

go to sleep

Hehe I was asleep, youu go to sleep 😛vampires can't survive in daylight

its only 9 here. I just finished dinner. Prepping a studio in my living room

Nice

yeah its working out pretty well so far actually
I've got track lighting in my living room which is proving pretty handy

1:10 AM
I'm in bed...using Google music. Not sure if I like it yet
Oh you meant studio lighting... I forgot
What you shooting again

No I mean track lighting
Going to shoot all sorts of stuff I have around my place to start with for practice and maybe put some on stock website to see what happens. Then going to start planning bigger things. Probably nature / flowers but more planned and fabricated

1:28 AM
[sigh] gamut warnings.

Nice that should be fun. When we started we picked a loose theme like urban and chose objects that way.

Im shooting some holiday stuff I borrowed from people to put up on stock sites before the holiday season
right now I'm not shooting anything.. right now I'm trying to figure out spacing given my lens options and the size of objects

oooh, I'd never used the click-and-drag option in hue/sat.

You're having far too much fun @BESW be careful ☺️

1:44 AM
[grin]
Since the client needs full PSD for the file, I'm taking the opportunity to learn more about Photoshop.
Gave up on the exquisite corpse as too complex.

if you got any Photoshop questions let me know

Wow that's very clever. The simple outstretched arms communicates the triangle quite well

Mostly I'm frustrated with PS's typography control.
Also, you know how most people overuse PS filters for a long time? I'm in that phase with blending modes.

hmm just put the first dry run into the computer. Too many shadows on the backdrop and can see a seam in the base I put down. Going to have to make some adjustments

What kind of backdrop are you using?

2:00 AM
We used to have about 6ft between the subject and the backdrop in most setups to blur it out just enough
By we I mean class, I'm not royalty lol

hmm my best lenses are 85mm and 50mm I think I'd need a longer lens to get that kinda distance between subject and background
my 135 is junk

Okay, now to get that draft onto my tablet... [mutters direly]

I've got more lights I can clamp to the backdrop still that should work and the seam in the base I should be able to get a bit better in camera still too

Have you tried a curved backdrop/base?

Once I adjust the track lights and/or clamp some additional lights it should be alright
I don't have one. This one I borrowed from someone
Did buy the tiles I'm using for base
Curve would be a lot nicer, wouldn't have the corner. Maybe Ill look at getting one

2:11 AM
This is the idea:
But of course you can do something a lot simpler without the vertical corner:

Yeah a curve is handy. My one would be similar to yours but with a velcro attachment from the back for the curve

yeah just testing things right now. Thought two of the tiles I bought would fit in it but bit too big. Might cut them down so I can fill the base and that will help get more options too

[smacks tablet upside the head] I've tried everything the Internet can think of to get this thing's USB connection more stable, and nothing works for long.

I got one of those if you plan on getting your own Ryan they're nice for glass or jewellery as they diffuse all round

They're pretty cool.

2:18 AM
You can backlight items with it which is nice
I think I paid like 10 euro for mine and I could probably sleep in it lol

My father used white umbrellas to diffuse his portable lights for a similar effect because he was often shooting much larger things on-site rather than in a studio.

It would be so comforting to have strobes like that. I'd need to learn to drive myself of course

I've got umbrellas and reflectors and all sorts of stuff still.
First goal is figuring out space.
The 135 seems a lot better for this. Just plugged it in to see. I might have to try taking a few with it. The biggest issue is chromatic aberration but that shouldn't be a huge deal shooting inside anyways
or I can see the 85mm switching it to APS-C since my camera can do that

2:35 AM
I wouldn't worry too much about that, either of those sounds good
If you're ever feeling lonely, shave one leg. That way it'll feel like someone is cuddling next to you.
That's my dating profile. I'm rather proud of it

3:05 AM
hmm I really need a two bedroom apartment. Using my tiny living room is not going well
Everywhere is covered with stuff :\

Well I managed well enough in a 11ftby 11ft boxroom haha
But space is nice
Ah I can't upload pics via mobile

what else was in the 11 by 11?

I photographed all the props separately at home for a stop torture project
Books a bed and a desk xD
You know it was more like 8 by 10 as I'm almost 6ft
But moral of the story is it's doable lol
The only thing is bouncing flash but I wasn't using flashguns at the time

I just have a bulb in a stand. Like a regular old bulb
It should be fine, but I do need to figure out a way to angle it downwards

I got a bendy desk light led

3:18 AM
and those are track lights

Bit awkward but you could use a mirror with those lol
Oh I can see the track I getcha

I think if I rotate both those track lights straight down it could improve the shadow cast too
I also just realized this entire setup might work better on the floor.. got a small hallway from my bedroom to a bathroom that I might be able to setup in better

Maybe use the light on the stand on its own first plus a reflector.
For still life tin foil wrapped on a piece of card or something is great for some items
The boxy thing you have, can't you shine your stand light through it to diffuse it? That's how I made my desk light usable lol

New MS Surface looks like it's trying to break into the designer tablet world. Looks nice youtu.be/BzMLA8YIgG0

Think I may have just solved it. Instead of using my dining room table at all I think setting up in a small hallway I have might actually be better
@ZachSaucier yeah maybe. I'll wait to see what Mac unveils tomorrow. It's also $3000 for the new Surface. It would have to really compete with serious specs AND an interface at that price
how have you been? long time

3:42 AM
I'm off gnight

@joojaa If you come across an answer that contains something that you think not true, please remember to downvote. It's what the button is for :)
@joojaa I'll purge all comments on that Illustrator vs. DPI answer you just made a room for,
@joojaa how's the ear?

not known yet
yes i downvoted you can purge.
doctor again in 2 hours

@joojaa but are you in balance again?
hm :(

well it is comming and going. So it feels like im mildly seasick every 2 hours or so then it passes again.
bUt i am at work so yes i can operate
just as long as i am not asked to use ladders ;)

nasty. hope there's a quick cure

well there is a chance its in the neck?

9:01 AM
tilts head how so?

its possible that there is neck muscle that is somehow strained and causes this
anyway the world is rotating clockwise
which seems to be about correct so I dont know maybe i have just found a new ground reference system,

lol

@joojaa don't move to the southern hemisphere, or you'll be comfuzzled
@joojaa I misclicked your flag on this answer graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/79318/…
But I wanted to dismiss it. If you don't like the answer, downvote it and leave a comment as to why. If an answer is unclear, it's not something we mods need to do something about.

11:56 AM
@Vincent thats fine
Apparently one of the sensor channels has some particles in it that will clear in 7 weeks
But i should not notice anything after this week as the brain recalibrates the signal over time

12:15 PM
@joojaa hm, weird. Fine that it should heal, but where could those particles come from?

They are normally attached to the end of the sensory hairs as weights and thay sometimes shave off from them in significant quantities.
the problem is that this changes the viscosity of the conduit and makes it more sensitive than ususal.
So too much amplification

12:30 PM
ah, got it

hi

@johnp got some good shots from a composition standpoint but don't think the really cheap 135 can hold up sharpness wise. Going to look into other lenses or maybe once I get everything organized and planned really well I'll rent a lens for a weekend.

1:18 PM
@Ryan Been doing well. Busy with things here
My ultimate frisbee team won the championships yesterday \o/

congrats!

1:51 PM
Anyone know how I could make this more dynamic, e.g. for when I don't know beforehand how many menu items I'll have?

don't understand the question
you want to add animation to it or make it dynamically space based on X items?

nvm, figured it out already :p
or not...

A company said JPG, GIF, SWF or PNG formats are accepted for banners. If doing animated please keep it under a 15 second loop. Decided to see what I could do with that... came out to 18mb.
Something tells me if I submit to them an 18mb banner its not going to go over well ^^

lol

@Ryan modest

2:02 PM
hopefully with some reduction in individual frame quality and total frame rate I can get it down otherwise I'll just make a lame static one
Or I guess I could do a cheezy flash animation because SWF is still a thing :\
1mb version lol really loses some of the appeal

2:33 PM
it's a bit choppy

I just redid it a lot better segment and better frame rate but its at 2mb
that one was at 32 colors. If I drop this new one to 16 colors it gets down to 1.4mb which I think I can probably live with

the gate jumps to closed :(

@Ryan cool, i imagine it's hard to frame in a hallway with 135

otherwise another car is visible and the gate is down but the car magically switches which was worse
I timed it to start a new loop while no cars are really visible

I think my sister is staying the weekend ;( which means no bed for John and general anxiety

2:57 PM
you making these from a video?

yeah

cool
in photoshop? can you tween masks in photoshop?

exported from Premier as a GIF but then brought it into Photoshop and reduce the quality further than what Premier allows

ah i see

Yes, sort of, depends what you mean by tween

3:02 PM
@PieBie have it extrude from the line and turn slightly one after anther

the issue I'm having is with this line:
var itemTopPos = ( (i * i) / (menuItemWidth/1000) );
more specifically the 1000 value

like to be able to keyframe the mask between two frames automagically
as in aftereffects

oh, not really. Pretty limited what you can do with keyframing in Photoshop - helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/how-to/photoshop-video-keyframes.html

2 hours later…
4:44 PM
@Pie looks cool and ambitious. No clue how to help you, tho--I'm a js n00b

5:38 PM
Hmm. I like where Apple is going with the Touch Bar but I just use Function keys way too often to be ready to let them go
pretty fancy though

5:54 PM
RIP Magsafe :(

6:44 PM
well color me unimpressed

well the prices are a touch out of my budget

$2,800 for the 15" is nuts

and by a touch I mean a whole damn lot

and I'd have ot buy adapters to use my external harddrive and wacom and such.
the bar looks nice if it performs well... but not at that price point. Windows just came out with a revolutionary desktop and Apple is giving us this at the same price point
looks like Im probably switching to windows
@JohnB I'm supposed to have an annual review this week. Tomorrow I'm at a conference. Its almost 3pm. The Office Mgr told me if he (the Pres/Owner) doesn't get me I should pop in and ask him if he's going to do it. What do you think?
I really want my review but popping my head in to ask for it seems like a not great idea :\

it doesn't seem like a bad one to me
but I don't know the dynamic

6:53 PM
hmm told myself earlier I'd ask at 2 then chickened out. I guess Ill ask at 3:15 if he doesnt pull me in by then :\
I don't know what that animation package with the M logo is

3 hours later…
10:12 PM
@Ryan hehe you should just bump into him and knock him over "by accident" to get his attention
I like how MS is finally beginning to address multimedia and creative users...makes them seem less insufferable with their officey crap

2 hours later…
11:49 PM
lol those speech recognition blues...
