hi
clearly perspective and color selections isn't my best part :3
there is a lot to be done here
I just want to know what is missing and what needs improvement. Also the color scheme sucks here
please put your professional opinions! :D

@AnujKaithwas Hello Anuj, welcome to the general GDSE chat. We have a separate room for critique chat, where people will be eager to give you feedback on your work.

Morning all

@Gramps hey what was that about last week?
okay but as far as me, I didn't call anyone a name did I? I mean I may have and forgotten but I try to stay civil on here :\
NO you didnt
alright, sounds fun. good work again Lone Ranger
anyhow, have a good weekend?
and that is not tolerated and too much like child like behavior.. nor will I allow anyone that is a member here to feel threatened or deal with that
ya it went by to quickly
mostly testing the new CC InDesign 14
Were there any changes? I read some of the change logs, all I noticed on CC 14 is better Webkit Integration and some other font stuff
13:11
do anything fun this weekend?
got drunk on Friday, got drunk on Saturday, and lifted more weight than I've ever even attempted on Sunday. Almost blacked out trying.
you can delete anything you'd like to
wanted to ask first before..
i mean im not sure WHY you wanted to delete it. But sure you got your reasons
what are your thoughts about removing critiques from here and asking them to go to the other chat?
really I think so often we're not discussing anything graphic design related in here that a critique would be welcome
but if people would rather keep it separate then I would keep all of them separate.
13:18
oh did US when the soccer games?
13:32
Nope we lost. I don't watch it but thats what the internet tells me
Hey Gramps, let me get your opinion, I want to mark one of these correct but they're all great so having trouble figuring out which is the most useful:

Q: Is there a way to create gradations between two given weights of a particular font?

RyanWas doing some reading and came across this which I found very insightful: Weight This is the difference between bold typefaces or versions of a typeface, and regular typefaces or versions of a typeface, as shown here by the difference between Arial Black and Arial. As with many ...

@Joojaa answer does work, I tried it. But WillAdams being a low rep member might be encouraged to answer more and he was the first to mention Multiple Master Fonts :\
Ill read it later and let you know
14:05
howdy folks
14:16
hey hey look who showed up
how have you been @JohnB ?
crushingly busy
dove into After Effects last week to help out a friend with a video project, you use it right @Ryan? Or do you just stick with Premiere?
hey all
@JohnB I use both. AE for graphics, Premier for the composition
Hey Baka
Heya Vic, good BBQ?
14:19
@Ryan I worked with both, but I think I like AE better
@JohnB Hi John, good to see you here again
@Ryan hehe, it was... ok.
food was good :)
@JohnB AE is definitely more fun and interesting for us graphic designers. I wish I had desk space at home and the money to get a setup to learn more. Now that my macbook is fixed I might invest in Apple Motion but its not nearly the same.
@Ryan It felt very "natural" to me, kinda like "oh, this is Illustrator but for video" which was nice
then I got to Premiere and struggled a bit hehe
@Ryan read you had a good weekend? :)
@JohnB you're better then me, or you're animation must be real different than mine. Its taking me a while to figure out how to achieve what I want in AE but I'm getting better with each video.
I spent much of last week making an animated bar graph in there
@Bakabaka I had a great weekend
14:23
@Ryan nah I was just doing extremely simple animations that could have been done in Premiere anyway
@JohnB if you know the answer to this I'll be a very happy guy

Q: When making a Gradient Ramp can the Start/Stop be relative to the object?

RyanWhen making a Gradient Ramp in After Effects is there a convenient way for it to be tied to the object its applied to. I'm sure with Expressions I could somehow Pickwhip it together and adjust the code, but is there any check box or something more efficient? It's a bit tedious when I make a Grad...

@JohnB is there end at the light of the tunnel?
@Bakabaka hopefully at the end of this week, still stuff to do spilled over from last
and I participated in a hackathon all weekend which allowed about 2 hours of sleep, so now I feel like a zombie
stores his brains in a safe place
so next week this site has 2 mods again? ;)
maybe, it might be Gramps' turn to disapear for a while though
anyone following the World Cup at all?
14:33
US from what I understand has tied
sorry @Baka but I voted for Chili in my pool for today's match D:
@JohnB honestly, I don't care much
and sup johnb
hey hey
the earlier the Dutch team gets eliminated, the happier I am
and sry
14:35
go dutch, lol
haha lot's of commotion over there I'm sure
soccer is to the Dutch as baseball is to you guys
boring?
john how are those hackathons? We have a local meetup just started on those
I've done a few, they can be fun
14:40
are you guys using perl?
@Ryan lol
no, as in, everyone and their little brother has an opinion, and saying you don't like it is... unwise
nope, Ruby on Rails
I got tweeted in picture form during the presentation:
Another 1st time GIS team at #PhillyEcoCamp! MyPark community alerts & events http://t.co/twSCG8wkbL
that's... rather blurry. not a professional camera I'd say.
phone
haha definitely not
this one is only slightly less blurry but you'll have to open PS and fiddle with the levels if you want to see my beautiful face twitter.com/timwis/status/480800909904318464
14:44
lol
so my US chaps you guys celebrate the 4th?
hell ya!
Murcah!
hahaha
15:06
@JohnB that's nothing compared to the math you guys use in basketball or AF :P

1 hour later…
16:40
oho! look at the beautiful little creature I met today
16:56
that thing poisonous?
id say yes..
no
utterly harmless; i believe you call it european grass snake
we only have three snakes up here, only one is poisonous - and that is very mild
this little dude, about 50-70 cm long, curled around the legs of my deckchair
i get very excited about meeting wild things...
17:12
we have some good ole nasty snakes down here in the south
pretty:
gorgeous..

Q: When can we get other "Other StackExchange" options in Close Votes?

RyanWe've discussed this at length, now that we've been out of beta for a while, are we going to get new options for the "This question belongs on another site in the stack.exchange.com network" close option? We have Tech-Support as SuperUser but otherwise only Meta available. Would be really nice t...

heyo
sup
ok migration have to be asked to be moved over.
If the moderator from that site wants it theres a tool we use to send it over.
but we technically dont have to ask but we do encase they know the question has been asked before and because it is polite
But this doesn't migrate does it? Doesn't it just leave a default comment, "Your question appears off-topic because it belongs on n.stackexchange.com"
thats because we havent sent it over. There is somewhat of a quality level you have to keep in mind.
Or could we at least get the "blatantly off-topic" one? A lot of times I find myself editing the off-topic reason from "because it is about..." to just read, "because it is not about graphic design." Which seems to be that blatantly off-topic reason some se sites have
though if we could use a less hostile phrase than "blatantly off-topic" i'd certainly be cool with that
17:35
Just like our scope for asking questions has to be within a certain degree its the same for other sites, example: critique questions.. If the question that is asked on our site wouldnt have to be edited much and we think it would be a great fit on another site we will ask. BUT like the email question it falls under Super AND stack
But again --- does votes to close as belonging on another stack actually migrate it?
Doesn't it just leave a comment encouraging the person who posted it that it would be better off somewhere else?
NO
MODs migrate the question
yes it leaves a comment that it belongs to another stack site. IF a mod triggers it to go it will go, but again, we ask before doing so
that make sense?
@scott I saw the Hercules we talked about and I want my two hours back, lol
okay then what do you think about the blatantly off topic reason?
we could edit it but ask in meta, I dont remember if we can add another close reason.. If you have a good case by all means ask.
@Gramps "Hercules" or "the Legend of Hercules" -- seen the latter, it was bad.
Haven't seen "Hercules"
17:43
the one with the off cast
I saw Neighbors... decent (not for kids)
That must have been "Legend" and yeah it was bad :)
I saw how to train your dragon 2 and was shocked it was more grown up
I actually liked the first one of that
Thought it was laced with adult humor \
That's what makes those movies good.. jokes the kids just don't notice and get :)
So.... client last week was upset that I dont' give away my InDesign files. I created a sales piece for them and they wanted changes to the order form, but wanted to make them themselves.
Today I get an email... 'Please insert the attahced order form PDf into the sales piece, etc."
Well the PDFs are not PDF/X-1a compliant, there are no marks, no bleeds, and they are undersized.

Q: Should we have a "Blatantly off-topic close reason?"

RyanMany stack exchange websites have a close reason, "Blatantly off-topic" UX: English: Money / Finance: We don't have this though. Was there a particular reason why we seem to be in the minority of SE sites that don't have (actually the only one I've seen)? If not I think we should add it...

17:47
I think Im going to start charging new users to ask questions... Sometimes the lack of effort and search just mind blows me
its been really bad the last few days
im sorry Im doing the best I can
..wasn't blaming you :\
I decided not to close so many even though I know they should be.. I find if a few have voted on them and then I come back and close it isnt so bad BUT if I just close it, boy, some complain
There's no way to combat laziness.. it's inherent in most people :)
17:51
that moment in life when your child's teacher calls and tell you your child decided to play hair stylist with another child's hair.... and these were child proof scissors!
well.. she didn't cut the other child did she? :)
only her hair..
Good for her! :) Make your mark early I say.
Line 'em up... let cut the whole class. They'll look like a cohesive team :) Besides.. that girls hair was already bad. :)
ha ha

18:08
Oh Matte, also saw Rush (boring), Animal (good horror flick), A Million Way to Die in the West (good if you like McFarlane humor), and Blood Ties (good crime drama).
I want to see Million Ways to Die, looks funny
jump street 22
It's full of Family Guy-style jokes
Well its no South Park but thats okay
you guys like south park?
18:19
i do
I'd say South Park > Futurama > Family Guy and somewhere way in the distance is Simpsons which shouldn't even be compared like it is, because Simpson's is a sitcom not a pure comedy
I am sooooo burned out on all of those
ooh but Boondocks get in the discussion somewhere
I like anything with subtle undertones of snide humor.... so yeah South Park is good, but it's more about listening to it than watching it. Family guy has always been a bit too obvious for me. Furutama was good. Never been a Simpsons watcher.
Hey.. either of you guys got any clue how to isolate audio static on a cable coaxial line?
uh not sure what you mean? I have a vague idea of how to isolate static in Adobe Audition :\
I hear by apoint Ryan as a mod... lol
18:30
oops, unplugged modem :)
how and why did you do that?
I've got a low level popcorn sound on my cable line.. think I may have found it though.. loose connection at the UPS
Becuase I was messing with the UPS and accientally pulled it too far out :)
electrical and cat cables too close
So now.. I need to pull out the entire des and isolate the cable and power lines better.... which is fine. I've got a new UPS coming this week and will need to rewire.
It's not CAT though.. it's cable coax
the CAT is fine
I think I found it though with that loose connection.
Seems better right now.
@gramps what? are you serious? is the workload too much with Yisela and JohnB busy?
18:33
It's really only prominent when I watch stuff ont eh home theater int eh otehr room where the subwoofer makes that low level poppign really noticable.
@Ryan nah Im fine
building a desk has really made my brain hurt
Where are they anyway.. they are jsut like real life politicians.. get elected then run off :)
yea you are
might just buy one its so annoying trying to find butcher block
18:36
its more expensive
And lumber liquidators wasn't good?
no the company that sold the butcher block top I needed burned themselfs down
Grizzly?
so the 30" x 72" piece I wanted wont be in till about Sept
grizzly was double
oh, ouch
18:38
ya and Ikea was large in freight
Could get cheap formica until September
Ill just roll what I have till then
lumber has 24 x 8ft but I dont know about rolling 24"
Or build it with just MDF tops so you have a basic pattern and everything ready to swap the MDF with butcher block when it's in.
Of course.. my biggest downfall with projects is I like to finish them and have a very hard time letting something sit half-done for any period of time
18:40
well there is another option Ive debated but I will have to sand it down and poly it
I was going to take 2" thick and get some pipe clamps and make my own but I dont have a wood planer so I wood just use an oribital and sand the seems smooth
going to glue and screw it together but ive heard of some issues I could run into if the edges arent smooth
well if youwant the butcher block and are going to get it eventually, you really just need a temporary surface to use.
ya I thought about 2 3/4" mdf butted together but knowing myself Ill paint it....
if its not painted it will produce dust no matter what
true and with MDF there's a splinter issue if you dont' do something
yes I have a router for corners
well yeah, but I mean just the general surface.
18:46
I would just finish the MDF and roll with it.
for all the pipes and fittings this runs 340: simplifiedbuilding.com/store/table-frame-kit-z.html
Or you could just do some nice 2x8's and butt them together with like a 1/2" MDF sheet on the underside.
see I couldn't use that. I need an L shape with the corner open.
@Scott thought about that and use a tool that is commonly used for building frames
@Ryan what version of after efects? graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/33793/…
@gramps started in CC now in CC 2014
ha I asked a beta question.... cant let Ryan ask them all today

Q: Should we add the tag CC-2014?

GrampsSince the new update of CC per the release I was curious if we should add cc-2014 or creative-cloud-2014 to co exist with our tag structure.. We currently have for Adobe: cs3 cs4 cs5 cs6 creative-cloud

Hi everybody
greetings

Q: Convert envelope distort to shape

selfagencyI have a path that I've distorted using an envelope distort in Illustrator. I want the distorted shape to become the actual path. How do I achieve this? Ie., right now my envelope looks like this: How do I get the area in blue (the vector outlines) to match the shape of the area in black (t...

I know I saw a very similar question to that one recently. Before I answer this one, does anyone recall so we can mark it duplicate instead
nevermind, found it
it is duplicate
scott answered
19:57
yes i marked it duplicate to the question @Ilan you're welcome to do the same so we can actually close it
ok
nop
did not closed
takes 5 votes or a moderator vote
20:22
responsive email design.... sucks.
@Scott
hi!
Hi Ilan
Do you think AiCS6 support stopped?
I mean updates etc?
yes. Unless there's a security issue, there won't be any further updates to CS6.
I cannot believe
20:25
Adobe only fixes security holes in older software
Why? Adobe wants you to subscribe. CS6 breaks that.
I paid full price just 8mo ago
well you bought it a year and a half after it was released.
have no words
CS6 is still rock solid here though> I use it most of the time.
yep
but new features in CC are attractive
:(
20:31
yeah.. but CC is a subscription only.. got to climb into Adobe's pocket to use it.
arhghhhh
20:47
@Scott a small Q
can I set the size of blob brush to less than 1 point?
not sure... I don't think so.

in UX Chat, 1 min ago, by Ben Brocka
@BleedingFingers seems more like a Graphic Design question, presumably it's something to do with print or form design I guess
in UX Chat, yesterday, by Bleeding Fingers
in this document, there are plus sign on all four corners of the page
any idea?
i think these signs have no any sence
$)
site down for others??
20:55
sorry man stackexchange is offline for me right now
21:41
@BleedingFingers no clue what question those comments refer to. No way to tell i fit is indeed a graphic design question or not.
@Gramps it was for me shortly as well.
@BleedingFingers ahh I see it now.. had to back up from your links.
The + signs are one of two things... A) simple design elements which have no functional purpose other than to look interesting or 2) tick marks for registration and auto-form scanning. The + signs may ensure the scanner rotates the scan so it's correctly aligned and centered.

1 hour later…
DA.
DA.
22:49
I believe scott is correct with #2. They're likely registration marks for high-speed scanning equipment.
My guess is that they are there to 'calibrate' the size of the document, as printing and re-scanning may have changed the original output size
