A request to help me in some problems

have you posted it as a question on MSE?

No I need slightly closer mentorship it is difficult to post as a constructive question
This is from directions...
Let us say a person is facing north west then why would the value change after 90 degree clockwise 90 anticlockwise 90 clockwise rotation?
Please help me with this.

what is the direction after each step?

Actually it is slightly confusing for me to judge..
The north west direction is it between north and east any direction?Or is it exactly 45 degree away from north aand east..Please tell this to me..

I do not understand, sorry.

12:37 PM
Is any direction between north and east called north east?
Or is it exactly the direction at the middle..

only the one in the middle

Ok this is where the confusion arises..
Infact my instructor says if the facing and ending directions are both intermediate you cannot predict the direction.

12:53 PM
@supinf
?

1:34 PM
Hello?
Why did you invite me?

I am having a couple of queries
Please assist me..
It requires a subtle mentorship
Would you mind helping me out
Let us begin with the first question.
@ParclyTaxel

Go on

Please refer to the first problem
And btw thankyou:-)
The only picture on the page
I have the same question to you..

If you are facing NW and you make the given sequence of rotations, you should rotate 90 degs clockwise, i.e. face SW

Apart from these I have a couple of more which requires slight advice

1:37 PM
In two dimensions rotations are commutative

okay..
But instructor there is a situation where after a certain combination of rotations you do not arrive any definite direction.
Can you assist me with that?

Your instructor must have no idea of what he's teaching

Let me check if I have the screenshot
I do not have that but there was a point where he said that if the facing direction in the beginning and the ending direction are both intermediate then we cannot dermine the direction he is facing..

You must have meant "indeterminate"

yes
Yes sorry..

1:44 PM
Udal would see Vishal's shadow behind him. Hence is facing the same direction as Vishal's shadow is pointing

I could not get you..
Could you slightly go in more steps?

Can you picture it in your head?

No that is where the problem lies..There is no definite configuration.

Oh
Then the pictured problem cannot be solved unless you give a time of day

ok
But why?
In the morning sun will be in the East
THen..??What next

1:49 PM
Since the sun is in the east, Udal's shadow is pointing west
Since this shadow is on Udal's left, he is facing north
Hence Vishal is facing south
Sorry for getting all muddled up

Please wait let me follow it..
@ParclyTaxel
How are you so sure that Udal is facing West nad Vishal East
Please explain this to me.
?

2:05 PM
they're not west and east

Then?

read my answer again

Since this shadow is on Udal's left, he is facing north
I cannot follow this line..

Suppose Udal puts his left arm out
It points in the same direction as the shadow, so his left arm is pointing west

I tried hard but I do not understand hat analogy you are using to predict the direction of shadows
In fact origin of sahdow is blocking the light right..
Then what next?

2:18 PM
It all comes from the sun

Whichever direction the sun lies in in absolute terms, the shadow is opposite

Can you show me the schematic..Maybe I would get the intuition..

Okay where is vishal...
It would be great if you show me the whole schematic..

2:25 PM
Vishal is simply facing the opposite direction as Udal

Please show the whole schematic it is a request
Maybe I am dumb:-)

Ok answer is south
Got it
Alright..Thanks a lot for the help.

I just wonder why all the Stack Exchange sites are so popular in India

Is it ??Nice to know..

2:32 PM
I actually made this

Great job :-)
You are from Singapore right

There are many Indians as well residing there..
Singaporeans are intelligent:-)
Can you assist me with the diagram I posted?
I mean the table?

what is the problem?

I do not know how to deal with evening time..

2:35 PM
That's because the sun is in the west at that time

ok
What is meant by forward and backward in the context?

If you are facing east in the morning, the shadow is in front (forward) of you, and so on

How could a shadow be in the forward portion
It should always be backward isnt it?

no no no

Can you show the schematic once again please?

2:46 PM
OK, is there a light on in your room right now?

yes there is...

Stand facing the light, and look down

I did

You see a shadow right?
Actually turn away from the light

I did.

3:01 PM
If you were away from the light, you saw your shadow in front
In the same way, if it's the morning, the sun is in the east, if you face west you see your shadow

ok got you..
Amazing explanation..

3:16 PM
Amazing stuff @ParclyTaxel
Can you assist me with reasoning and puzzles slightly
I am preparing for an exam..

3:48 PM
OK?

I will need assistance with maths also
Generally when are you free?

Next morning

Sure ..that is good to know. Will bother you then.
