Q: Can someone explain what's really happening here

Mohd Naved AlamI hope you're all doing good I recently bumped into a question which I am finding hard to understand. Can someone please help me understand what is really happening. How do I approach the problem. It's not a homework. I've completed all my schools and colleges. I'm trying to learn here. It wi...

A: Tips for golfing in C

ceilingcatUse lambdas (unportable) Instead of f(a,b){return a<b;} ... qsort(a,b,4,f); try something like qsort(a,b,4,"\x8b\7+\6\xc3"); This works in environments in which string constants are marked executable. By default this is true in Linux and OSX but not Windows. GNU CC computed goto: You ca...

G BAssign instead of return. This is not really standard C, but works with every compiler and CPU that I know of: int sqr(int a){return a*a;} has the same effect as: int sqr(int a){a*=a;} Because the first argument is stored into the same CPU register as the return value. Note: As noted in o...

Karl NapfSwap variables If you ever need to swap variables, don't use the pattern with an extra variable or that addition-subtraction-method, just do some chained XORing: a^=b^=a^=b;

A: Tips for golfing in C

MD XFUse #define instead of functions when possible For example: f(int i,char*s){/*do something with i and s*/;} Using #define can eliminate the argument list type, curly-braces and closing semicolon: #define f(i,s)/*do something with i and s*/

A: Tips for golfing in C

MD XFUse s[i] instead of i<strlen(s) in string-handling loops For example: for(i=0;i<strlen(s);i++)s[i]=s[i+1]; can be shortened to: for(i=0;s[i];i++)s[i]=s[i+1];

Hi. Anybody online ?
31 people apparently
lol
I have a question
I'm trying to calculate volatility for a list of stocks
the data points are in sql and I managed to create a program in sql that will allow me to calculate the volatility in sql and put in back in the database
but it's too slow
I'm wondering if you know of any program that could take the sql data
do the calculations in c# and then
put in back into sql

@user43418 welcome; we usually don't discuss programming matters here, unless it's directly related to fighting spam.
oh ok
Sorry
@user43418 This isn't a room for that kind of thing really, sorry. You could try asking on Software Recommendations, or try one of the code sites to improve your sql query. Just make sure you read the tour and on-topic posts before posting

@Mithrandir, @SBM, @SimplyBeautifulArt Shall we all join hands and sing Kumbaya!
Kum ba yah ("Come by Here") is a spiritual song first recorded in the 1920s. It became a standard campfire song in Scouting and summer camps and enjoyed broader popularity during the folk revival of the 1950s and 1960s. The song was originally a simple appeal to God to come and help those in need. == History == === Origins === According to Library of Congress editor Stephen Winick, the two earliest versions whose year of origin is known for certain were both collected in 1926, and both reside in the Library's American Folklife Center. No precise month or day was recorded for either ver...

Why it is off-topic @amWhy?
user131753
Are you there @amWhy?
@user170039 What you don't realize is that I cast one of the reopen votes to get your question reopened. I left you plenty of information at your post, and here, but you've only persisted to ask an additional question or two. So pardon me if I decide not to re-answer your question here. Since you have a proclivity to quote me out of context, I think our conversation here is best concluded now.

I am sorry. So far as I can see you only mentioned that, "You yourself say: "The main motivation of the question was philosophical and not mathematical." Then you're on the wrong site." to which I replied. It's ok if you don't want to continue this discussion (in which case thank you for continuing it till this point). But if you really want to reply then please provide an answer to my comment which I made in reply to just-mentioned your comment @amWhy.
@user170039 Your comment is off topic because it originates in epistemology, flirts with a math question, returns to sophistry, is philosophical in whole, and only reference one claim in math, failing to include the justifications, in math, for that claim....I could go on. But I will take leave...and if you quote me from chat again, I'll post the entire context, including your unwillingness to accept others, including mine, explanations. I wixh you well.

@SimplyBeautifulArt @SimplyBeautifulArt you fed a crank-in-the-making exactly what he wanted to hear yesterday... You know who I'm talking about?
Countless people, other than me, have given you feedback about your question, etc. You have not considered, nor self-reflected on feed-back. Instead, you take offense at those who disagree with you. So you, say, go to meta. But it seems you didn't hear what you wanted to hear, so you return to bother me and try and involve Daniel Fischer. Do you want a link to the "contact us" field where you can appeal to SE in general.
user131753
"Instead, you take offense at those who disagree with you." - can you point out such an example where I took offence at those who disagreed with me?
More sophistry, from you... I'm drawing the line here, @user170039. You attack those who offer constructive criticism with questions about "why they did so", and even when they answer, you throw back why is that your answer...And so maybe someone has enough energy to reply. I did X because of Y, and I say Y, because of Z, and you return asking "why Z?"....
No more attention from me, @user170039

@SimplyBeautifulArt @BillDubuque has write privileges.... I'm just trying to keep a very disgruntled user from asking why I did A? When I answer, "because B" , asking why I think B, afterwhich I say "I repeat B" and add, for my final answer to your questions, that C, because x, y, z. This will shortly become public... I added @SimplyBeautifulArt and @BillDubuque, because I saw "shadows of your icons" to the right, and would include many more users, too, but that takes time.
Hi @BillDubuque!

This whole issue: Question, comments, answers, meta question, shouting matches in commets has gotten out of hand, and has seemed to prove my comment, which was also relevant when I wrote it: Each part, question answer comment meta question comments answer, seen at once, is the worst of MSE. People needing to be right, people defending a user just out of spite, people trying to help being smacked by those who want the last word....
It's no longer about the original question, and the original asker is partly to blame, for that, fueled by others, no doubt, to ignore legitimate comments and explanations, just for the sake of trying to make a non-point.
Referring to question: math.stackexchange.com/questions/1600940/…, and question math.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/26488/… and all the answers and all the comments below questions and answers. This is one example among too many examples of personalities fighting personalities, a competition among all users who want the final say, etc
You'll have to be patient, Dear @BillDubuque. Not the time to add fuel to the fire, with inflammatory accusations, and appeals on behalf of the down-trodden (which only you may see)... I'll say no more.

@SimplyBeautifulArt I just now gained write access. Did you have a question? Note: I did not see all of the many deleted comments so please give context if need be.
lol, we aren't supposed to chat in the trash @BillDubuque
and no, I'm good
@SimplyBeautifulArt I was joking. I have no write access in "Constructive Feedback" but I did ask.
oh
@BillDubuque Well don't you want access?
@SimplyBeautifulArt It's very unlikely it will be granted given that two of the room owners and I strongly disagree on site politics. That above claim that I have write privileges is false.

Who stroked someone's ego by saying this: "Ah, but I do not get that clearly out from reading your question. If you combine this with the link you've given me and perhaps mention a hint of $0.999\ldots$ being possibly infinitely close to $1$, but maybe not quite, then this would certainly be answerable and I'd be happy to reopen it." If only this commenter knew...
