Breytingalás (locks change): First day stores are unlocked and opened in the autumn, to start eating all the dried and cured meats and fruits over winter. Like Thanksgiving but less turkey.

3 hours later…
4:03 AM

not that Sam has been playing Skyward Sword HD or anything lately, but how do we feel about city in the sky as a setting? :p

OOOOOH sure
Only if we can get wings at the beginning

brain box sounds
who is bobble's character going to be?

4:13 AM
Ori from Ori and the Blinded Forest is all about floatiness anyways and fits this Ori's personality

I'm not sure Rei would leave his work to go to the city :) Maybe I'll play his assistant

Perfect

Estelle is on a break temporarily because Rei is burying himself in calculations and doesn't need practical stuff done

And to refresh my memory - when we roll to do stuff, you roll as many dice as your skill level and I roll some dice against you to determine s/f?

4:17 AM

Q: How many dice does the GM roll when challenging the players?

ZibbobzI'd like to run a game of Roll for Shoes, but I'm not sure how many dice I roll when the characters face various challenges. I'm under the impression that it's supposed to be the same number of dice the character uses, but that seems to make impossible tasks far too easy to perform. Is there a ge...

and then if you fail you get an XP point, and you can spend XP to level up skills. and all 6's means you automatically get that as a skill
right?

'borg memory check is complete

Each XP changes a die to a 6 for advancement but not success
So a roll of a 4 dice with 2 6s would require 2 XP points to level up

Gotcha, I remember now

4:22 AM
Doot dot

It's a marvelously clear day in the sky city of Okkama. The temperature is brisk and breezy, the windmills are clacking happily along, and there are some airfishes floating along through the sky in a multitude of colors. The cloudslasher that brought you here, after depositing you on the west edge of Minnow Isle, has just departed in a whirl of prismatic wings, and you find yourself surrounded by flowers, grass and hopping bubble toads.

"Okay, this is all cool, but do we get wings?"

You were told to find Head Knight Kosmich once you arrived and to avoid disrupting any wind-based wildlife or stumbling into cloud dragon lairs. Also, you were gifted two lovely pairs of constructed DaVinci flying wings.

"Yessssss!"
Attempt to fly with wings [3]

Attempt to figure out how wings work [6]

4:25 AM
@PrinceNorthLæraðr [f] Unskilled in how to operate the wings yet, you pull the ripcord from a standstill. The wings spread so fast that they catch the wind rippling over Minnow Isle and pull you backwards violently, almost throwing you to the ground.

@bobble [s] You study the wings' design and discern that you need to get a running start from some height, and pull the cord right at the moment you jump. Then it's just a matter of keeping yourself from panicking.

Understands Machines (2)

The wind should also be at your back, a fact Ori clearly missed a bit.

"Mr.. Mr? Ori, you need a running start and put them like this" gestures

4:26 AM
"Stupid wings. I bet I can just cast a spell."
Ori casts fly on himself [2]

A bubble toad hops past, croaking and blowing some little bubbles.
@PrinceNorthLæraðr [f] Your feet lift briefly off the ground, but then the wind pushes you back into a nearby purple-leafed tree and knocks the wind out of you. Evidently Minnow Isle is very breezy.

"Grrrrmph."

"Mr. Ori, we were supposed to go to find Kosmich?"

"Right. Sorry."
"I'll just walk."

A pink-scaled airfish drifts by, riding the wind currents with resplendent orange fins.

4:29 AM
Ori dusts himself off. "How's Rei doing?"

Estelle is excited to be travelling and seeing places outside her town.
"Last I saw, hunched over on that bench muttering about how to apply a Urethy transformation to the Giki equation."

"That's good! How's his relationship with uh, that librarian girl?"

"He gave me very explicit instructions to 'tell that Ori to get his nose out of my private life'"

The bubble toad sitting nearby looks over at the airfish, following it with its eyes.

She plays with the sleeve of her new jacket - a fine, floofy masterpiece Rei gave her so she wouldn't "die of cold wind"

4:34 AM
"Geez, just trying to be nice. I thought we were friends!"

"He, ah, said it was a 'bit much'"
"You do know which way to go, right?"

The fish, which was drifting closer, flutters away, apparently spooked by the noise.

"Nope. I thought you had directions."

[1] to remember directions

"By the way... how's Apollo doing?" Ori chuckles awkwardly.

4:38 AM
"Single."

@bobble [s by tie] You remember vaguely that the main city, where Kosmich presumably is located, is thirty minutes north of here on a map.

Ori cringes, mumbling about how Apollo never called him back.

[5] to have a compass

@bobble [s] You have a nice antique compass.

fiddles "That way"

4:41 AM
"Sounds good."

shows Ori compass. "Hand-me-down. Apollo was issued one by the train company so I got Amam's"

"Nice."
Ori still seems a little sad, but lifts his head back up. "Whatever. Anyways, Kosmich?"

Estelle ignores him and looks around at the wildlife

Along with the bubble toads and airfishes, there are some night flitters perched in a nearby tree, hiding in the shade and staring at you with multiple sets of glowing green eyes.

Ori opens his holding rift to check if he brought his air magic textbook with him [4]

4:47 AM
@PrinceNorthLæraðr [s] You remembered it.

attempts staring contest with a night flitter

One of the night flitters shifts and stares intently back, clearly taking you up on it.

"Yesss." Ori pulls out his Colors of the Wind: The Essential Basics of Wind Magic and Fog Clouds

[1] to hold steady

@bobble [f] You blink. The flitter makes a surprisingly melodic, flittery sound.

4:49 AM
sighs, turns "What book is that?"

Ori shows her. "My intermediate level textbook on wind magic. I know it says basic, but this is mid-level magic because it introduces different forms of fog clouds"

"If you're trying to fly, remember Mr. Ori, you need a running start"

"No, I can use my magic."

attempts to keep walking forwards

Ori attempts to use an advanced form of breeze to try to stay afloat [1] (oh dear)

4:54 AM
@PrinceNorthLæraðr [f] You fail so very badly that the breeze yanks you backwards, you go flying through the air, and you land in a patch of pink-and-white wildflowers.

"Oh why does the universe hate me."

rushes over "Mr. Ori, do you need help?"

puts her stuff away into pack "Here, I'll pull you up." braces self

Ori takes Estelle's hand [5]

4:57 AM
[s] You succeed in pulling Ori up. He is covered in some pink-and-white petals.

brush brush brush

"I'm okay, my pride is just hurt."

"Mr. Ori, we need to go so we won't be late. Or we could pay for transportation?"

"That's probably smart. Where's the best transportation?"

"Heya here, look boys," a voice calls. A blonde-haired young girl is approaching from afar with a sword at her belt, flanked by two rough-looking fellows dressed similarly. "We got non-fliers bumbling around like flitters in daytime. Look at 'em."
The boy at her left grins. "Can I throw rocks at 'em?"

5:00 AM
Ori glares at them. "I can cast fireballs like no one's business, I wouldn't mess with me."

An immediate reaction is to run - [6] to find somewhere to hide

"Ooh, stoopd, I'm so scared," the boy says tauntingly. "Maaaagic."

Ori readies a fireball in his hand. [6,3,3]

@bobble [s] There are some bushes, trees and rocks in convenient hiding distance.

dives, peeks
I'll assume Ori is distracting for them

5:01 AM
@PrinceNorthLæraðr [s] Your hand bursts into flame. The boy jumps and scrambles back to hide behind the girl. "Whoaaaa!"
"Pssssh," says the girl. "He hurts us and he'll get it. He won't do it."

"I might not be able to fly, but I sure as hell am good at blowing stuff up."
"Don't tempt me."

"The guard will be on your ass," says the girl, dismissively. "We just wanted to get a look at you. Don't mess with the Sardines." She waves to her lackeys. "Leave 'em be, chumps."
The bullies tromp off.

Ori finds Estelle and approaches her hiding. "They're just scared of being blown up."
"Anyhow, to Kosmich?"

"Scared people hurt people, that's what Amam says. So you don't scare people, especially not scary people". Estelle sounds as if she's reciting a textbook
Oh, and Hiding (2)
[5] to look around for transportation

[s] You notice that just past where the bullies came from to pick on you, there are some people milling about saddling up large... well, "giant fuzzy tarantulas" doesn't seem like the strictly correct word, but that's what they resemble.

5:08 AM
"Mr. Ori, see over there?"

One of the people, who seems to be part of a trade caravan of some kind, is petting their tarantula's head and gives them a lil kiss.

Since she sees Ori as in charge Estelle hopes that he'll decide to use the giant tarantulas and move them over there himself

“Yup I guess that’s our ride” (sorrywifi Just died)

follows

Ori approaches the tarantula-like ride and looks around

5:15 AM
As you near, the conversation between the traders comes into earshot; there are four of them, two of them talking in low voices as they tend their mounts. Their language is incomprehensible and sounds like a combination of whistles and sharp phonemes. They look up at your approach, fall silent and stare in apparent nervousness.

slides behind Ori

"Hi. We're looking for a ride up to Kosmich?"

One trader, a stocky woman with blue beads in her hair, speaks at you in a way that sounds like a question, but you don't understand her in the slightest.

Ori casts comprehend languages on himself [6,5]

[s] Your ears tingle for a moment with magical comprehension. The woman speaks again, and this time it's completely clear: "They do not speak [garbled]? Surface-dwellers perhaps?"

5:19 AM
(I'll spend an XP to Comprehend Languages)
Ori now attempts to cast speak languages to converse with the woman [6,6]
(okay now it decides to play nice?)

[s] Knowledge of the Wind Language courses through your brain. You can now understand how to form their phonemes.
"I do not speak surface languages," another trader muses. "They look harmless, though. Perhaps we offer food?"

"Hi, sorry to bother you."
(Speak Languages (3))

The traders startle in surprise. "Forgive us," says the woman. "We mistook you for surface people. How can we provide?"

"Do you have transportation to Kosmich?"

attempts to look as if she can understand this

5:23 AM
"Our beasts are unburdened, and we are headed that direction," she says, nodding. "You will ride on Earma's if you wish. Have you ridden an arachstryk before?"

"I am afraid I have not."

"Climb up and down only in the direction of the fur, not against it - it is spikier than it looks. If you abuse her, she will kill you," she says, very matter-of-factly.

Ori quickly whispers these instructions to Estelle
"Thank you."

"I see no reason to thank us for common Wind-People courtesy. We will go now," the woman says, turning away as if she considers this conversation over.

Ori nods and gets on the arachstryk, carefully following the woman's directions
Ori opens his textbook to see if it has information on the wind people [2]

5:27 AM
Estelle copies Ori

The other traders mount their beasts. One, a very aged-looking man, watches you with unusually sharp eyes for a man of his age. The woman, apparently the leader, barks orders in her tongue to follow the path and avoid something that doesn't translate to your language.
@PrinceNorthLæraðr [f] You only locate vague references to a few different groups of people who dwell on these islands, including some who have assimilated into the main city and others who live on their own.

Ori silently curses in his brain

Another trader, a willowy fellow, looks at Estelle curiously. "Does this one not speak?"

stares back

"Not often. She's very shy."
"She's not from around either, so she doesn't understand."

5:33 AM
The trader paws around in their jacket and emerges with a small wooden carving of a long, sinuous dragon. They offer it to Estelle as an apparent gift. "A good-luck charm."

takes, smiles

"Ozo," the old man rasps, apparently in disapproval. "That is an outsider. You give a luck-gift to an outsider?"

"Do you not like outsiders?"

The old man scowls. Ozo glares angrily at the horizon and says nothing.
The arachstryk you're riding on, which has been moving placidly, steps around some bubble toads hopping across the path.

Estelle gets out her compass again to see how they're going

5:37 AM
Ori appreciates the scenery in private

In the distance, windmills, pillars and tall towers with wind sails are coming into view over the trees.
"Are you two really from the surface?" Ozo ventures, apparently unable to contain curiosity again.

"What do you mean from the surface?"

"Down there." Ozo gestures vaguely. "Beneath the clouds. I've never been. I was just curious what it's like."

"Ah. It's very pretty." Ori attempts to create imagery [6,1] of the world below.

[s] You successfully produce a very lovely montage of sweeping deserts, lush rainforests, beautiful oceans, wide plains, magical crystal mines. Ozo gazes in utter fascination. "There's so... much of everything."

5:45 AM
claps at montage

"Yeah. It's beautiful."

The old man looks over irritably, apparently provoked. "Be tempted not, Ozo. They are people of technology and magic, not of aether and air. The Wind-People courtesy does not mean they are friends to us."
Ozo hunches and mutters an apology.

Ori raises his eyebrows but doesn't say anything

The full city begins to come into view - full of various wind-harnessing implements, weather vanes and sails, teeming with people that fill the squares and paved pavilions. The traders rein in their arachstryks. "We go no further," says the leader, turning back to stare at you. "We bring goods only this far. Be well and go with luck, travelers."

"Thank you." He bows in thanks and steps off.
Stop here?

5:49 AM
Estelle jumps off after
