Is it on-topic/salvagable if it's made generic?
Instead of "$300 to whoever cracks it"; "how would I best go about recovering a password if I remember some information about it?"
(The theory might be OT on security.SE)
But would the practicalities be OT here? "Eg, TC has a mode that accepts arugments on stdin, you could script attempts based on variations etc etc"
Seems like a generic Q would be on-topic, like eg
4
Q: Forgotten LUKS passphrase

Ansh Davidi am stuck with a big problem. I have encrypted my linux drive with LUKS and now I can't remember it. During boot, it prompts me for the passphrase, but I went into troubleshooting mode and deleted the entry from /etc/crypttab so at least I can boot now into my account but that doesn't solve the...

tbh, the big issues I have this is literally a cash bounty, and unlikely to be helpful to anyone else.

Fair enough! I've edited out the request and bounty (don't think I've used the phrase "Super User is not a password-cracking service" before :P) if it helps
I think there is a kernel of something useful in it- they remember what might be the phrase and their TC usage pattern (well, 'on a Mac'...) so it may be generically useful to someone else who has forgetten a TC password

12:18 AM
the hints might actually be almost useful. Or the fact there that's hints.

Bob
...that's a paint scraper

!!s/paint scraper/print removal tool/

@bertieb ...that's a print removal tool (source)

@Bob I wonder if the edge is actually metal
scrapeing the print bed seems bad
also, a lot of people wear by glue stick before printing

Bob
12:36 AM
@JourneymanGeek I'm thinking of getting a glass plate but it'd probably arrive in many pieces...

@bob like a puzzle? :P

considering my new screen survived shipping from china... and not my pocket?
I'd trust the shipping a bit more

@ChatBotJohnCavil @FMLCat Stop posting drugs!

Bob
@JourneymanGeek A phone screen is about 150x75. This will be 200x200

12:40 AM
@Bob Nice. I notice they've removed power profiles...
Guess I can just about cope, seeing as my laptop is effectively functioning as a desktop now

unrelatedly
I've been bringing my old phone out in exactly the same situations it broke in before
it seems fine now that I got a new one ._.

Bob
@FMLCat they did what now? o.O

@rahuldottech Yes, I've been using liquid metal on my CPU for over a year...

and the op6 apparently will have a glass back, notch and rear fingerprint sensor... so I think my op5's more 'me' ;p

@Bob Power plans (Balanced/ Power Saver/Performance) no longer exist...

12:42 AM
(since I had been planning on waiting on a op6 before)

Bob
@FMLCat in 1709?

@Bob Yeah

Bob
@FMLCat uh... I'm looking at 'em

Control Panel => Power Options now just lists one option (Balanced)
Nomatter what you select in the new interface

Bob

12:43 AM
@Bob Huh

Bob
maybe it's a laptop thing?
or maybe the 1703 to 1709 upgrade did it
this machine went from win7 to 1709 directly
I'll have to check 1703 to 1709 when I get home

Hmm

Bob
vadzim's answer looks promising

@Bob So, in other words, you were right? Again?

Bob
creating a new one apparently works too

12:47 AM
@Bob And it has zero votes... wth
Pawel's was good too... the plans are still there in Mobility Centre

Late answer, not suprising.

Bob
werd, though, that apparently turning off connected standby unhides the extra power plans
you might be better off leaving connected standby enabled and just creating custom plans
@FMLCat well, it might be wrong - the forum link he references is from 2015
idk, I can't test cause this was never an issue for me

@Bob Does that even work on normal devices yet?

Bob
> EDIT: It appears to be a bug in the upgrading process. A fresh install of windows 10 does have the default powerplan settings available.

EDIT2: Its worse than I thought. Apparently a bug in the windows 10 installer sometimes does manage the powerplan settings, sometimes it doesn't. I bet the upgrade has the similar problem. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I did a fresh install where the powerplan settings were removed, had this twice now.
@FMLCat the linked source was asking about a surface, so yea idk if it's even relevant

hah

hiring-lady-desk-1.jpg
So is that the hiring lady, or a generic lady at a desk, or a lady they are hiring?

2:28 AM
Yes

No, they are hiring a lady desk.
No male desks allowed.

no, they're hiring the desk and the lady is the interviewer
I wish I had a photogenic enough face to make a living getting my picture taken while pretending to do common office tasks while really having no idea how actual business people do things in real offices

Wouldn't that be "lady-hiring-desk-1.jpg" then?

@allquixotic or parody those. :p

2:54 AM
Oo
Amazon just suggested a sata power to barrel connection adaptor. Which is something I want in a future bias lighting config and it's creepy they know.

At least they can't tell if you're pregnant like Target can.

Bob
@JourneymanGeek weren't you looking it up the other day?

Oh not a single premade unit no.
Sata to fan and barrel connectors... Sure

Bob
ok, corp is weird
apparently I need to come up with a "woman who inspires [me]"

anyone build there own KVM portable VGA and USB keyboard interface before? I want something like this, but hoping I can build one cheaper. Also I would like it to have a nub.

3:09 AM
@Bob ....

Bob
@JourneymanGeek that was my reaction
worse, we're meant to write it down for display
wtf is this, primary school?
ok! I'm taking suggestions here! :P

I mean I can answer that. But that I need to answer that.....

Bob
@JourneymanGeek I can't answer that.

How snarky do you want to be?

Bob
@JourneymanGeek ...samples? :P

3:11 AM
Grace Hopper, ada Lovelace or Margret Hamilton are safe bets.

Bob
@JourneymanGeek yea, ada lovelace was my go-to

I like Hopper better. She was a badass.
Snarky. Pick a pop music singer and gush about her.
Say she's a feminist icon and all that shit :p
No one is going to read it.

Bob
oh god no
@JourneymanGeek knowing corp, they'll take photos and email them to everyone

Better.

3:26 AM
@JourneymanGeek looks like I'll be printing in purple :P

PLA or ABS?

3:46 AM
@Bob Mrs. Brown

Bob
@JourneymanGeek PLA to start with... purple is cheapest :P
as for ABS... pink is cheapest

Lol.
The recruiter is tied up with something else... This mall is bizarre and boring.

So why are you singaporians so smart?
I have read you always beat out the US(not that that is difficult)

I'm not smart :p

you are a mod and have 171k. Let's let this image speak for itself

3:57 AM
The average Singaporean is afraid to fail and folks are pigeon holed into acedemic bands early in life. Makes for good stats.

Wooo! New Zealand made the list!

the US didn't make the top 10 but they included it anyways because well we are the US

@William this is in spite of not being acedemically successful. I love the stuff I do. I wander around fixing things :p

Bob
ooh, $4 for 1kg of blue ABS

In a sense Singapore has optimised for acedemic success and orderly business over independent thinking and initiative.
Where folks are creative they're extraordinarily so because they worked for it.

Bob
4:07 AM
ooh fluorecent blue ... is out of stock
ooh fluorescent yellow ABS
glow in the dark green? o.O

out of stock ;P

they're in stock
$4.50 and $5.50

that is actually a really good price

Bob
...which could be a bad thing
$6 for colour-changing o.O

4:09 AM
Oo

@JourneymanGeek Well... humility is a problem. Just how many times have I bragged here? What can I do?

@bwDraco don't brag. :p

Bob
hobbyking also does free shipping from the local warehouse :D

4:29 AM
well thanks for the explanation journeyman off to due hw

More concretely - I'd say a lot of people share stuff cause it's cool. Consider the thing, as much as that you did it, but don't be scared to share wins.
@Bob which seems nice.

printer, mosfet, glass plate and filament
I think that's everything

Oo mosfet?

Bob
@JourneymanGeek apparently the connector to the heated bed draws too much current, especially for 100 deg ABS printing, and burns out
known issue with a lot of the cheaper prusa i3 clones (wanhao/monoprice, anet a8, etc.)
mosfet being effectively an external relay for the power to go through

Bob
oh thank god I think I missed the beginning when they were putting up names
...nope?

5:30 AM
Oo
Putting up names?

Bob
6:10 AM
@JourneymanGeek I avoided it

Bob
@Spike0xff only TV shows and movies? How about books about young sorcerers who go to a sorcerous academy? Or how Fifty Shades seems to have ushered in the genre of erotic *trilogies*(goodreads.com/genres/erotic-trilogies)? (I happen to know one author - male - who was told, almost literally, that the book was exceedingly good, but he would need a female pen name, lengthen the book by around 40% and split it in three. "That's what the market wants"). I'm also seeing books whose titles are apparently chosen by a Polygen grammar abstracting that of a previous success... — LSerni yesterday

!!wiki Cumulonimbus

Cumulonimbus, from the Latin cumulus ("heaped") and nimbus ("rainstorm"), is a dense, towering vertical cloud associated with thunderstorms and atmospheric instability, forming from water vapor carried by powerful upward air currents. If observed during a storm, these clouds may be referred to as thunderheads. Cumulonimbus can form alone, in clusters, or along cold front squall lines. These clouds are capable of producing lightning and other dangerous severe weather, such as tornadoes. Cumulonimbus progress from overdeveloped cumulus congestus clouds and may further develop as part of a supercell...

BonnieJust bought new server & computers for our business. Had an Internet outage and now our server has crashed & has backed up to a month ago. @JourneymanGeek Wait, what?

@ThatREDACTEDGuy umpteen levels of indirection in contracting - this is common
he knows who his direct employer is who gave him an official job offer, surely
but then that company is a contractor of a contractor of a contractor, etc

Oh, sub sub sub sub contractors. I see.

the end customer could end up being me for all I know

@allquixotic Funny thing. Last week a friend of mine referred my services to a friend of hers.
I asked for more details and the briefing in the email contained a website of a beginning artist

Dear Mr. Andy Paul,

I am a long-time owner of Corsair power supplies, cases, and RAM. I
regularly recommend them to my friends and family, and have never had
a product fail over more than a decade of use.

During a recent system upgrade, I realized that I misplaced a cable I
need for my Corsair AX1200 power supply to install a new fan.
Fortunately, Corsair offers the replacement part at an affordable
price on your web store.

Unfortunately, the package arrived with the wrong part. The order
