Q: building copperheados for sailfish errors

EricGood day, I am trying to build Copperhead OS for sailfish (google pixel). I am having some issues building, as well as some spare questions. 1) In my building efforts, I noticed that the choosecombo tool would not accept aosp_sailfish as an argument or it would fail. I verifyied the repo, a...

ehh
I think its topicality is borderline
its VLQ, I'd grant

Too many questions and not fleshed out enough.

Bob
@JourneymanGeek soooooo answer-ish on that FS question and it seems to not exist :( (cc @bwDraco)

> Most of us are lucky enough that our teenage actions rest safely in the past. One of Willow Schlanger's happens quietly to have gone viral.
Considering this entirely cause I was bored... ;p

5:34 AM
The unformatted content is strike one for me, the fact it's dozens of compiler errors is strike 2 (I could maybe agree with 1 or 2), but it's an android question and now looking at it has nothing to do with secure boot

Bob
@JourneymanGeek I think by viral he meant spread across every partition type list :P
@Ramhound Unformatted content is trivially edited and should not be a close (nor VLQ, which is only for unrecoverable posts) reason.
@Ramhound Dozens of compiler errors is also meaningless, because it could be something as trivial as a single missing library.
If you've ever seen a C++ standard library error... you can easily get 100+ lines of compiler errors for a single character typo.
@Ramhound And it most definitely is not an Android question, as in "off-topic for SU".
An "Android question" in that sense would deal with usage of Android running on a phone.
This deals with compiling for Android on a clearly non-Android platform.
The "compiling" part is sliiiiightly borderline as it miiiiight be better suited for SO.
But since they're building an existing package that probably leans more towards SU while being acceptable on both.

:P

6:49 AM
I have 45 days to decide to return my Beats Studio3 Wireless
Best Buy Elite Plus member perk
might end up returning them because they hurt my ears
if I return them I'll definitely check out the PXC 550

Bob
@allquixotic no love for plantronics? :P
funny thing is, as he was going down the feature list... I was thinking "hey these do that!"

Q: GCC: Why does an error in one line of code (comparison of string and NULL) cause a long list of error messages?

bwDracoI've been curious about why one error can cause the compiler to generate a very long list of error messages. The following example is the result of an erroneous comparison between an element of a vector<string> and NULL at line 100 of main.cpp under GCC 4.8.1: > g++ -g3 -std=c++11 main.cpp funct...

> g++ -g3 -std=c++11 main.cpp functions.cpp
main.cpp: In function ‘int main()’:
main.cpp:100:24: error: no match for ‘operator==’ (operand types are ‘__gnu_cxx::__alloc_traits<std::allocator<std::basic_string<char> > >::value_type {aka std::basic_string<char>}’ and ‘long int’)
             if(args[1] == NULL) {
                        ^
main.cpp:100:24: note: candidates are:
In file included from /usr/include/c++/4.8/iosfwd:40:0,
                 from /usr/include/c++/4.8/ios:38,
                 from /usr/include/c++/4.8/ostream:38,
(trying to compare an element of vector<string> and NULL)
Compilers are friendly like that. One missing '{' can generate pages of error gunge. — Martin James Oct 9 '14 at 20:23

@bwDraco one of the design principles of the Clang compiler is actually to do less of that "missing semicolon generates pages of cryptic errors" stuff and just say "You're missing a semicolon, dummy"

@allquixotic oddly enough...
that's one of the things about the cisco CLI which I love

some people don't even compile their release builds of their software with Clang but still use it as a sort of static analyzer because of its good feedback
@JourneymanGeek it's one of the things about PHP that I hate :P
T_PAAMAYIM_NEKUDOTAYIM

(basically it quite literally sticks a ^ under the exact character that looks wrong)

@JourneymanGeek yeah, Clang does that too
there must be some general purpose lexical analysis algorithm for basically saying "The program up until this point looked fine, but after this, it looks shit" and then deduce what symbol you would need to make it not shit

7:54 AM
lol
well for routers, you could probably just stick all the commands in one very deep tree

they mainly use BNF grammars for this stuff
having a grammar and parsing it while providing good user feedback is another matter though
compilers would be easier to write if they just had to say "it compiled" or "it didn't compile"

well, in theory..
wouldn't the best time for such feedback be in the IDE?
compiling takes time and stuff like intellisense already tries to figure out what you need

what tells you its an AVI SDP?

Plex does.

transcoding them all now anyway

12:16 PM
hm. My brain seems to be on vacation

I kinda forgot/didn't notice a few trivial things

I'm having a moment like that at the moment; trying to remember why I took fifty quid out last month (no ATM receipt)
I usually pay for things by card so i have a receipt and record of spending
(receipts reconciled with bank record in hledger, which btw I would give a hearty recommendation to for those looking for a CLI personal accounting tool)

12:48 PM
I've paused and unpaused a download half a dozen times
and was wondering why it paused, and its cause I doubleclicked it.

@ThatBrazilianGuy Oh, so people won't make inappropriate advances on you until June? Lucky you.

user226528
@rahuldottech ???

@FleetCommand What are you talking about? I'm a man, people don't make advances at me (sometimes I wish they had, I was a really shy teen).
Where do you live that people do make advances at men?

user226528
@ThatBrazilianGuy I wasn't talking about that extreme degree of inappropriateness that is your minds and in films. You know, just enough to make trouble for you during employee assessment.

user226528
One of my coworkers has printed a T-shirt that reads: "If things get too Valentine-y, I might use my gun". Surprisingly, it is applicable any time of the year, but I don't think this T-shirt will ever be worn.

Neither am I talking about extremes, I was talking about flirting without being an asshole, that goes without saying
In all my life I think I've been told I'm cute like twice
Like, spontaneously by a girl that's not a girlfriend

user226528
1:27 PM
Anyway, what exactly are you not going to worry about until June? I can't imagine a Valentine-related thing that can be postponed that long and not forgotten by then.

2:17 PM
Further brain-on-vacationing: I'm convinced I wrote a GIMP plugin to automate some basic stuff (contrast,colour, etc) but it doesn't seem to be installed
Can't remember if scheme or python
But likely python

They coaxed the benchmark to run at 1440p and got 71.8 fps on high settings on the 1080 Ti.

Q: How does terminal velocity take infinite time to be achieved?

user869106When we drop an object in a fluid how does it take infinite time to reach terminal velocity mathematically?

o.O

Today I'm going to be brutally honest in my comments.
Your question belongs nowhere on the SE network as it doesn't make any sense. If you had actually done some research you would realise that the answer is no. A cable modem is not a RF modulator - WikipediaDavidPostill ♦ 3 mins ago

Ran the case intake and GPU fans full-tilt to test the ANC on my PXC 550. They were almost inaudible. As for gaming, there is noticeable latency over Bluetooth, but it's acceptable for casual use.

10:33 PM
...okay, ran the FFXV benchmark again at 1080p high, this time with the GPU voltage turned up, clocks at highest known stable (2012 MHz core, 12.6 GT/s memory) and fans running at maximum speed (hence, not representative of typical conditions) – scored 9311: benchmark.finalfantasyxv.com/result/… (cc @allquixotic)
(CPU still at stock frequencies)
