Its reasonably futureproof (there's no major changes in base T physical networking for home use), its reliable (as far as the cables go), and its fairly low cost
Granted, I also use homeplug, but thats because I live in a apartment designed in the 70s ;p
I'm not too good at it, didn't play for about month and half when I was shifting and the people who were playing with me were playing 3-4 games /day. Fell behind and then they started griefing me over being a feeder n00b etc

there are sparingly few projects where you start off at the beginning with planning, and follow the waterfall model verbatim, meeting exact deadlines, and never having to go back and change anything or release patches or any of that
even for things that can't be changed easily after they're delivered to the customer, like ICs and non-programmable embedded hardware, they have many rounds of internal development where they do a release, get feedback, then come back and fix shit

D = Qualcomm Adreno (basically a 10 year old kid that shares a common great-grandfather with AMD Radeon but is otherwise completely different) E = Imagination PowerVR (relatively good performance, but very proprietary like Nvidia) F = ARM Mali (worst performance, but there are open source drivers available)
submit command to GPU -> GPU has a stroke -> no response from GPU, hmm, GPU must be dead -> tell the PCIe bus to hard reset the GPU -> reinitialize the GPU -> keep on trucking
works most of the time, unless the reason the GPU had a stroke has something to do with CPU-side kernel data structure corruption or similar (in which case you get a BSOD instead)
@Bob AMD's most recent card "generation" looked like a desperation attempt to catch up to Nvidia: they drove up their clock rates by a lot, but the built-in cooling hardware can't handle the thermals it produces at max clock rate, so the power management stack clocks it down to run basically at HD7970 speeds anyway.
I'm really disappointed at how they designed that card: "oh look, way faster than your HD7970! ... until you run it a while, then it gets hot and slows down to almost HD7970 speeds."

although I'm pretty sure the folks at Cloud Imperium Games have developers from AMD helping them; they were giving away built systems with the latest Radeons a few months ago for some contest, and I was watching one of their videos and they showed this programmer's rig in their office and he had dual Radeons
so as far as Star Citizen perf (which is really the only major upcoming game that I worry about my current rig being able to run it at great FPS and high detail) I should probably stay with AMD
@Bob honestly, if Star Citizen runs exceptionally well on dual Radeons and for some reason runs significantly worse on only a single one, I might buy a second HD7970 (likely not nearly as expensive as when I first got mine) and CrossFire them.
again, that's purely speculative; if the benefits aren't there, I won't do it, but I'll be looking for benchmarks
as far as the GPU architecture and fab size, there is zero motivation for me to upgrade to the latest gen, so if it's just raw horsepower I need, and the renderer is multi-threaded and CF/SLI-capable, upping to dual GPU by adding one to what I have could work fine
@Bob that would be a dream come true, except that the software used for describing the fab process is likely totally different between TSMC and Intel, so it'd require a "rewrite" of the "blueprint" of the GPUs to manufacture them on Intel fabs.
I did read that TSMC can support Silicon-on-Insulator and bulk CMOS equally well with virtually no changes to their fab design; but that just means they have flexible, configurable equipment that can just be "told" to do one or the other quite easily
@Bob if Intel did open their foundries for commercial production of non-Intel chips, AMD would be able to go straight in while Nvidia would require significant rework on one or both sides. Here's why: either (a) Intel would have to re-engineer their fab to also support SoI (unlikely) or (b) Nvidia would have to redesign their hardware layer to use bulk CMOS instead of SoI (equally unlikely, as it would be a huge change)
for AMD it would be a software specification format compatibility issue, and little more. the actual chip design (on a physical layer) of an AMD GPU should be able to be fabricated quite easily using existing Intel fabs

@Bob problem is, Intel could unwittingly let AMD back into the CPU business if they did that -- remember, AMD doesn't just make dedicated GPUs; they also make AMD Fusion cores. AMD would insist on letting them make those on the same process, which Intel would object to because they don't want AMD making good CPUs again, so the deal would collapse and it would never go anywhere. That's probably close to what actually happened at some point :P

"Removable Disk" is not a device type, it's a label given to any removable disk drive without a label
my point is that they should have used something more generic, go by the device type, rather than a label... i mean the label is not always descriptive, like "WEL312" doesn't say much about what or which device that is
in the example above it's a usb flash drive, so there's really no disk to be inserted into it, unless they expect me to unsolder and resolder the NAND
it's just that i'm having problem with that one, that's why it's spitting out a stupid error like that, needs to be formatted
