@Nathaniel I agree that it need not be. On the other hand, acceptance provides a clear "this answered my question" signal ... even on those occasions where it's wrong. :)

Yep, there's definitely a downside to it. I'm not totally convinced that making a change to the behavior would be beneficial for our site, but it would be interesting to have the discussion.
