Hi, y'all. A proposal on Mi Yodeya for supporting syntax like [ref:gn 1.1] to link to Genesis 1:1 may be of interest to you: specifically, you may wish to propose something similar for Christianity. (Maybe not: I don't know.) (Obviously, this is enlightened self-interest, in that support for the idea from more than one site may more likely get it adopted.)

@msh210 have you seen/used any of the userscripts our users have done?
I haven't used them, but they seem to work fairly well for what you're looking for. Would love native implementation, but it might work in the meantime

@waxeagle No! Is there a meta post or external site you can point me to, please?

@msh210 going to find it now

@waxeagle I appreciate it.

Q: Userscript for generating Markdown from Biblegateway.com

dancekWhile we're waiting for a proper solution for embedding Bible passages, I created a hacky userscript (my first ever). I've used it for almost a week now and am happy with it. Works on Firefox and Chrome. No warranty, etc. Download / Review source code The script inserts a textarea below the p...

I don't know what kind of standing biblegateway.com has in your community

@waxeagle It has one Jewish translation I think. We'd probably adapt the script -- if its under a license that allows us to -- to link to different sites.
Oh! I see now what the script does... that wouldn't necessarily be adaptable to another site.
Or not easily, anyway.

@msh210 yeah now that I look at it, probably not. But it might be at least a starting point. SE likes it when a community makes the effort to meet them partway on a feature request

@waxeagle Well, my feature request comes with a PHP script pre-made (and I seem to recall, perhaps incorrectly -- I know little really about server-side scripting-- that the SE sites use PHP).

@msh210 nah, they're built on .net, MVC

! Yeah, congrats @DavidStratton! :D
So now we've got three users that will be mod-level non-mod users after we graduate! Good!

@El'endiaStarman provided they don't all run and win in the election :P

8:29 PM
@waxeagle Ah, good point. I was also thinking about elections with regards to my pro-tem standing... :P

@waxeagle Ah. That will help me pick among the overabundance of qualified candidates: when in doubt, pick the person with the least reputation. ;-)

@El'endiaStarman - thanks! @waxeagle - to be honest, the thought had crossed my mind, BUT I think it's important to have non-mod people at trusted user level. As long as the people who do run are people that will fight to keep the site standards we've got, and not let it slide backwards, I'll probably keep my hat out of the ring.
I'm quite happy with the mods we have. The only reason I'd feel compelled to jump in is if someone who didn't have the site's best interests in mind looked like they may win.

Everyone worked pretty hard to establish the standards and bring the question/answer quality level up and it would only take a few bad mods to ruin it.

If I recall correctly, we're hoping that we'll get to elect five mods, so even if every current pro-tem ran again and got elected, there'd still be one more spot.
