A: Why will this dupe of Atheism succeed where the former beta failed?

HrafnIt is my feeling that while Atheism-focused sites have been wildly successful on the internet as a whole, a trend is that those seem to be discussion-oriented as opposed to being well-suited to a question-and-answer format. I don't think bringing in more well-known people who can answer question...

I voted up this answer. That was the problem.
There's just very little to say about atheism qua atheism.

@Wikis That question tends to turn up in debates between advocates of duty-based and consequence-based systems of ethics.

Was I too hard on a new person here? I don't know if off-topic is the right thing to object to.. I just see no value in the question. It doesn't do anything to educate anyone about Christianity, as far as I can see, so I can't see this as being a good fit for the site. On the other hand, I may just be overly-critical.

Q: Is the cross the symbol of death?

goodmoodIs the cross is the symbol of death? If so, does that mean that taking this symbol is like taking the symbol of death? Is that because Jesus died on a cross?

@DavidStratton Nope. You made a good call on voting to close and explaining your point of view.

@Caleb, thx. To be honest, your reasoning reminded me of Matt 12:1-14, especially verses 2-5

yo! people! long time. what's up? :)

8:07 PM
lol, i'm still in like the top 20 for the year even though i've been inactive for months now. Gotta get back on top of the month/week boards! :D How's the activity been lately?

@DoubtingThomas Welcome back around.

@Caleb thanks :) how's it been?
are we picking up any speed?

@DoubtingThomas Goodish I guess, although I always feel like the whole thing is thisclose to imploding.
@DoubtingThomas Yes actually, a lot. And rumor has it we've been given a green light to graduate and it's just logistics now

@Caleb ha, yeah, the internet and Christianity don't get along that well
@Caleb whoa sweet!
I came back at a good time then :)

@DoubtingThomas No kidding.

8:11 PM
Now that I've gotten college in some semblance of under-control, I should be able to at least lurk here now...
oh yeah, jin's been here... sweet.

I feel like 90% of the people that have time to talk religion on the internet are people who aren't actually capable for whatever reason of doing so in person.

@Caleb cough*youtubetrolls*cough
but yeah, good point
just checked the new users page; encouraging!

@DoubtingThomas Whenever the question "are we making the internet a better place" comes up, I think about the raving lunacy that goes on in comment threads across all major social sites and I think to myself, "That's a pathetic standard to live up to, we should be able to pull that off with our eyes closed."

@Caleb yeah, exactly. But it's that high standard that keeps the Stack Exchange network at some level of sanity

I'm running off, but we'd be happy to see your name on the charts again.

8:17 PM
yeah, i should be able to join in some more now. it's great to be back :)

@Caleb and @Wikis: you guys may be interested in my BH.SE post where I argue that statements such as "everything is lawful for me, but not everything is helpful" are dripping with sarcasm. That is the one reason I haven't upvoted your answer to my debt question, Wikis: I just can't see that Paul is being serious there.

Q: Merge Tags doctrine-and-covenants & doctrines-and-covenants

Doubting ThomasCan someone with the vote count or a mod merge doctrine-and-covenant and doctrines-and-covenants? Also, should those just get deleted all together? We have two perfectly good doctrine and covenant tags...

@DoubtingThomas Doubting Thomas! Yer back! [glomps] :P

@DoubtingThomas I'm still here making trouble too. Welcome back.
Yarrgh! I've just missed Blasphemy Day. Must make a not of the date for next year.
