@Raffzahn I would think that with more RAM, it would be possible to place more routines that would otherwise need to be in GPL into RAM. Even if the routines had to be stored in GROM, I would think that performing something like a "CALL CHAR" by copying a small routine into RAM and then running it would be faster than trying to process all 16 digits of the hex string using a routine written in GPL. If I recall, a CALL CHR took more than a frame to process, but...

...reading a 16-character string and writing 8 bytes of font data shouldn't take nearly that long.
