I've tried to work on this and I'm sorry, I don't think I can mentally do it. All the initial excitement has worn off and working through possibilities is a slog. Either someone else takes up an idea or the chain ends here. I'm so sorry.

100% understandable - your mental health is more important than this

4:00 AM
@bobble Yeah, no problem :)

@bobble Hey, I'm sorry to hear that things haven't been going so well for you. I would be down to pick up wherever you've left off, I just need to know what the current theme and topic is and what ideas you were considering so that perhaps I can do some justice to them

Theme was Video Games. The previous puzzle's answer was Baba Is You, so you have to incorporate some element into this puzzle. My idea was... let me dig up the link

My plan is to make a cryptic crossword, or at least a series of cryptic clues. A previous set of clues gives types of indicators, with "is" between. So if in the previous section clue a solved to ANAGRAM and b solved to DELETION, and a is b was given, then any anagram indicators would instead act as deletion indicators in the after-clues or the crossword... does this sound like it could work?
there, that starts where I was working on the idea

@bobble That sounds like an interesting path, do you have any information on the game itself?

From my cursory investigation, it looks like your proposed puzzle mechanism fits pretty well with the game's mechanism, so I'll definitely see if I can expand it into something

The main problem I had was all the words were long and sorta-similar

Only thing is that the previous puzzle uses CCs as well, so I may need to find a different way to incorporate that idea

I was toying with some ideas of expanding beyond just indicators. E.g. "Alpha is Lima" and now all the As in the next clue are secretly Ls
A more complicated variation I dreamed up at one point was several mini-s where each grid would lead to an answer string hinting at changed rules for the next one

Bobble, I'm sorry for making you feel uncomfortable before, I was just remarking on your words, I had no idea that that would hurt your feelings :(

@bobble ah, that does sound pretty fun!
i like the [grid-deduction] idea too

Of course the Deus would be excited by a mechanism with a thematic link :)

i'm always a fan of novel twists on puzzle types

I just watched some gameplay of Baba Is You, and wow is it amazing

it's a very good game, highly recommend

@bobble May I have access to that list of words?

Oh, I mean the indicator words

it has a lot of interesting puzzles, and your thought process will sound like absolute nonsense. "if rock is push, then i can't have wall is hot or box is move... unless i can make it so box has baba and rock..."

"Deletion" "Insertion" "Anagram" "First-letter extraction". etc.

@Deusovi Sounds right up my alley hehe

As soon as I was reminded of this game, I dragged my housemates through solving the whole game >.>;
TV + laptop house solve with much frustration ;p

If it ever goes on sale I'll cop it
Anyway, I'm just trying to figure out a way to make bobble's proposed mechanism actually work and not be super clunky

5:30 AM
Ok, well since HTM's taking the chain, I officially give up on trying to get a part of the chain lol

@Deusovi That is so true
"Flag is win, so baba needs to be flag...."
Meanwhile my mom is like
"Who are you talking to? Are you okay?"

3:42 PM
@HTM, important note: the puzzle's final answer needs to be another video game
