Yes, that is an ER20 collet holding a pin which is also clamped into a three-jaw drill chuck.
Why? Because I had no other way to hold the drill-chuck and access all the outside surfaces for cleaning.
It only needed a derusting and light sanding - I was not cutting metal off the drill chuck like this.

@Criggie I feel like the 'easy' option here would be to soak it in something derusty :D
(I think handtool rescue swears by evaporust, I've used vinegar for non precisionish small item derusting)

I did the ultrasonic, but that only loosens things, doesn't remove it.
And circular things are so much easier to clean in the lathe or a drill
