That's true. My dad taught me, though, to keep it near the plug to enforce the "unplug before changing the bit" thought process. Same reason I keep the safety key & chuck key for my drill press inside the top where the motor goes. I can't turn on the press without getting the safety key out and can't chuck a bit in without getting the chuck key out. One opening of the top gets 'em both. Just a handy reminder to not be stupid.
