@Criggie It's has three modes: automatic (which means it will turn off/on at programmed times), off (so heating/hot water is turned off at the unit itself, but it still drains power) and "off at the wall".
Right now I have it on 'off' and manually turn it to automatic when the apartment gets too cold for me to be comfortable, because if I put it on automatic all the time it's even worse.
Can't imagine it would be freeze protection as it's not freezing here.
Definitely a question to ask on the main site.
I wonder if age comes into it too? Worth mentioning the unit's age, if its been under water, and perhaps even which refrigerant it uses.
I'll go gather all the details and write something up then :)
yah I know enough to know that its not my area :)
@Criggie age is 'not so old', it was a new unit that came with the new apartment :P it hasn't been under water unless rain counts and I have no clue where to find what refrigerant it uses.
It'll be on a label on the outside unit probably
Something starting with R and a 3 digit number
