Q: Ways to keep outside freezing during winter months?

JohnMy outside unit is on north side of house and under an area that water drains. I have put gutters, placed a small roof above unit. But still the coils freeze up during winter. Looking for more ideas to help with freezing problem, ways to defrost quicker, etc. like if salt rock, defrost ears, e...

@Tester101 how many BTU do I need to heat my yard?

What's the square footage?

@Tester101 ~76000ish
cubic feat would be....ummm that times about 150+
plus we're going to have to account for um...substantial loss on the perimeter
very poorly insulated

Don't worry about it, we're trying to heat the entire world anyway.
F you polar ice caps!

I love a good camp fire, but I do hate those exterior patio heaters. If it's too cold on the patio, wear warmer clothes or go inside.

@Tester101 That's a bigga negatory little buddy.
> YES!!! I think I am code compliant!
FTFY
Nobody's ever actually code compliant... somebody somewhere in the materials or construction did something wrong... Yep, that's my theory. Maybe not you and you may not know it, but something there is wrong. :)
Cynical? Never.. hey anybody know who I would talk to if I wanted some masonry groutted or whatever that word is where the crap fell out from between the bricks, also someone to "repoint my chimney" (I think? They just need to seal the top cement) Residential masons seem to not exist, was thinking call a chimney sweep and basically see if they know someone or offer any masonry side services

@JimmyHoffa "masonry contractor" or "masonry repair" doesn't work in a search?
And repointing is the right term

Has anyone noticed that most contractors just don't bother calling back? I guess if business is so good that you can ignore most of your potential customers, that maybe I should try being a contractor. I bet there's some good money in that.

Yeah. I don't call a second time. That's why I put 5 or 6 calls out to vetted contacts.

Me neither, if I have to call multiple times to give someone work, how many times would I have to call to get them to fix something they screwed up.

9:44 PM
Exactly.
