@SpecterProphet I think we have never used the unit mAh in physics. This kind of unit is probably mainly used in industry. @CalvinKhor because in battery industry that kind of unit is supposed to be used, but in physics we don't need a unit like that.
we can just use Columbus because we don't really care how long a battery can run in physics.
hi, everyone, let's socialize. a raft of research has shown that individuals with richer social worlds tend to have better mental well-being and lower stress, and to perform better at work.
indeed, sometimes I feel very stressful and after talking with someone, I feel somewhat relieved - it's not so disastrous.

7:13 AM
I think that I enjoy physics more than math is just like I enjoy poems or literature more than linguistics.

7:28 AM
what makes a spherical cow in a vacuum physics instead of mathematics? @CaptainBohemian

7:41 AM
@CalvinKhor I don't know what you mean.

i'm trying to draw the line between maths and physics

physics isn't like math filled with void definitions and calculations

what's a void definition and calculation :P

physics always endows definitions and calculations with meaning.
those lacking meaning and purpose
for example, when we were taught with Gauss-Bonnet theorem, we ere enlightened about geometrical quantization at the same time.

is gauss bonner taught in differential geometry ?

7:55 AM
our course isn't called Differential Geometry but Advanced Mathematical Methods for Physics.

good night

@SpecterProphet night

It taught various geometrical forrmulations for physics.

@SpecterProphet also, yes

sorry it's morning here
anyway good night again

7:57 AM
since Gauss-Bonnet theorem may be a formulation of quantum gravity, it was taught.

@CalvinKhor Do you got some hint for this:

@CaptainBohemian but its good to learn the abstraction, otherwise you need to relearn it every time it appears again

@CalvinKhor Do you got some hint for this:
in Mathematics, 4 hours ago, by William Sun
Let me write down the question again: for positive $x+y=1$ prove that $(2x)^{\frac 1 x}+(2y)^{\frac 1 y}\leq 2$.

no, didn't try @Knight

@CalvinKhor I actually forget abstraction very soon every time after I learnt it.

8:00 AM
@CalvinKhor I tried hard but couldn’t get the right bounds.
Can I ask it on main site? (Although it’s William’s question)

that's why I keep not knowing what set theory is for.

go ahead, maybe even link to the message in chat, don't forget to add context

@Arjun I can't accept your suggested edit if you add comments like that at the end
@MiaSins please speak in english

@CalvinKhor What happened?

user474948
meaning ok

@Knight Arjun suggested an edit of Mia Sins's question with "Uhhhoh this quarntine made me do maths instead of shows,do it!" at the end, I'm just telling him why I'm not approving it

I don't care who it is, I'll just say that I will kick on the next instance, and then you can scold whoever or whatever did it for. you

@FadedGiant Mods please come here and see this Arjun. He created a new account with name Mia Sins and have upvoted all his questions. 16 upvotes and see Arjun’s profile, 16 upvotes (160 reps). It’s too much, I’m no one to say something but it is against the integrity and good will of MSE.
He is banned from chats but have violated the suspension thrice.

user474948
who the heck is arjun

@Knight, can you bring that up in the mods office or something, not here?

@CalvinKhor I’m sorry but I had to flag one of the posts of that Mia sins

8:12 AM
hello guys

listen this is arjun
this s not me
he's my friend

@MiaSins I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that you won't find a solution to your question here

user474948
8:20 AM
ok

user474948
srry once again

It's fine
"You cannot kick suspended users." huh, learn something every day

@FadedGiant I have done it.

thanks

@FadedGiant thank you too for being here

8:22 AM
:) you’re kind

I have limited time to work before I get hungry.
so I told my MSc partner I had used up unhungry time.
now it's like I have almost used up unhungry time.

Let’s take some break and start afresh

@Knight I think you should try to be a little more tactical when deciding to flag messages in a chat room. Most of the time you end up deleting a few messages, and perhaps suspending an account's chat privileges. I'm already going to trash messages. If the person can easily make more accounts, then this is nothing to them. If you have noticed irregular voting behavior, collect evidence and present it to the mods, you're more likely to cause the result you want (assuming ofc that you are correct)
but I'm of course not going to stop you, and if you feel the need to flag the message, go ahead, but make sure it is flagged correctly. Also, the above mentioned short-term victory may not be dealt with by mods, and possibly not the parent site (e.g. Faded Giant)

Now, I think we won’t need it anymore.

have you decided to post the question of william? @Knight
@CaptainBohemian what's your opinion on fast food e.g. mcdonald

8:31 AM
there r so many def of homo equation that I m confuse d
one has variable multiplied by some number
in fuhction
sorry i will restate statement fter I don

@CalvinKhor I don't know what you mean by fast food. I haven't eaten in McDonalds for an eon because I feel its food is of too small amount for its price, and its french fries is notoriously greasy.

@CaptainBohemian but grease i.e. oil is huge in calories

@CalvinKhor but that tastes really bad.

Fast food is ... idk how to define it, food that's served fast is the idea try google lol
mcdonalds is the basic example

McDonald's is cheapest food available here

8:37 AM
mcdonalds fries here arent more greasy than other fries

salty fry

there are a lot vendors and breakfast shops around selling french fries tasting far beter than that in McDonalds.

not the cheapest but very cheap compared to other
@CaptainBohemian I don't agree

@CalvinKhor but an eatery selling fried rice and risotto rice around serving food faster than McDonalds.
well, a lot of eateries around serve food faster than McDonalds does.
and taste better than McDonalds.
and cheaper than McDonalds.
@SpecterProphet some eateries serve wavy french fries, which not only taste better but also look better than that in McDonalds.

@CaptainBohemian hmm sounds like country difference
it's salty wavy and little be crispy here
I mean fries
homogeneous equation is weirdly defined $f(x,y)=f(tx,ty)$
$dy/dx=f(x,y)$ the above mentioned is it should satisfy the rhs of this equation
I thought function being 0 will satisfy being homo
may be i am having vauge idea
sorry sorry I messed up no need to answer question above
ow I get it

9:07 AM
when in my childhood, I considered McDonalds is a very high-end restaurant. @SpecterProphet
that time it indeed was because a lot of restaurants weren't that expensive as McDonalds,
but now it isn't but a lot of restaurants have risen their price again and again.
so that a lot of restaurants sell food more expensively than McDonalds does.

well if I give up on math and become chief I will sell pizza for 100$ and everyone will consider it high end
my book is very misleading it doesn't write what is homogeneous function

if I need to be a chef, I'd better to be a hunter and gatherer.
well, it's impossible for me to be a good chef.
because I am not interested in cuisine.
I would only heat food to eat.
if anybody asks more, I would ask them to eat grass.

I didn't cook rice maturely to my father.
because I didn't know how to make rice mature.
I put a lot of water in the pot and waited for a long time but the pot still didn't switch up.
then I asked my senior lab mate why is so,

I thought physicist and chemist are good at cooking

9:17 AM
only chemists should be good at cooking.

I hope they don't feed me grass

physicists are good at providing insight.

@CalvinKhor a little emphasis on the flag correctly part and we should be good..

I think no chef is a physicist.
but maybe some chemists are chefs.
because some chemists study the chemistry of food.

I think we should be evolved to eat grass so there will be no food problem
or we can develop habit of eating grass slowly
eating grass is better than spending tons of money on food

9:24 AM
I may visit the pharmacist to buy some fibers later.

grass also has lots of fiber
the problem is we need to develop a digestive system so we can digest it

we don't have that kind of digestive system so we resort to pharmacy industry to convert grass into fiber pills.

9:39 AM
if we can digest anything we eat then it would be very beneficial for our survival
think about eating favour pills then after eating flavour pills your mouth will only have the flavour that the pills contain
time interval being temporary
and you start eating dirt
very good solution to famine

things that smells good are often poisonous
@FadedGiant thanks didn't knew how we precieve taste
wow they already created this stuff
this technology can help you fight obesity
eg eating salad with hamburger taste
and get rid of addiction too
can solve lots of problem
I think i would like to join lund
they said its good uni

10:27 AM
@FakeMod Geeetings
why is there so many mods here?

user434058
@SpecterProphet Greetings!

3 mods 1 peasant
@FakeMod wait u r not mode

user434058
Meh, I am not a mod :P

how much exp u need in order to be a mod?

user434058
3k

10:34 AM
u got 6k in 4 month
approximately 30 exp a day

user434058
It's easy...

I don't give a dark number or error bound

@SpecterProphet sorry I was preoccupied, did you fix your concerns about homogeneous functions

@CalvinKhor yep i found i am an idiot

Lol ok

10:37 AM
it's the same mistake I always make and never improve known as lazy sloopy reading
how to gain consciousness and become more present than live in past and future lol

10:51 AM
ok ok i think i am still confused
$f(x)=\sum_n=0^k a_n(t)frac{d^ny}{dt^n}$ is a linear differential-equations is homogeneous if f(x)=0
so I need to prove f(x) is homogeneous function
and they only defined homogeneous for multivariable value
for single variable should it be $f(tx)=t^kx$? for some constant k and for all real t?
then f(tx)=t^nf(x)=0 where n=0 satisfy being a homogeneous function
I think i am right
so no confusion
the only problem with this book is they didn't told me about homogeneous function
looks like it is taught in functional analysis

11:37 AM
How do you solve your frequent need to wash your hair?
Washing hair is troublesome because after watching I need to make hair dry before going to sleep.
It takes about an hour probably to dry hair.

2 hours later…
1:38 PM
Be bald
best way is not to have a hair
or never wash your hair
David Hilbert was bald

@CalvinKhor in physics, there are various vacuu.
Classical vacuum, Quantum electrodynamic vacuum, Quantum chromodynamic vacuum,
But I hate to be bald.
I like to have my hair as long as to my waist.

2:00 PM
@SpecterProphet or bleach them

2:32 PM
@SpecterProphet you are confusing two different uses of the word homogeneous, my suggestion is to trust the book you're reading a little
@SpecterProphet a linear ODE is an equation of the form $\sum_{n=0}^N a_n(t) y^{(n)}(t) = f$, and the linear ODE is called a homogeneous ODE if $f=0$.
@SpecterProphet A homogeneous function is a function that "respects scaling" in a certain way. not really related

@CalvinKhor Can you explain an example to me? It's related to Algebra and polynomials? (I asked for permission because you might be ending your day and don't want a long and tiresome task)

@Knight maybe, if it turns out to be no, i will tell you, stop, and then resume tomorrow. how's that
not 100% free tho atm

Better
Problem 7%E2%88%88Z%5Bx%5D.)

which?

Problem 7%E2%88%88Z%5Bx%5D.)

2:41 PM
cant understand you because it says 7%E2%88%88Z%5Bx%5D.)

Click on the link named Problem 7 and in that page look for problem 7

please answer in plain text?
ok thanks

and click on show solution

which part?

Why they assumed $x_k = x_0$?

2:45 PM
that's part of info given in the question
this is the $k$ for which if you iterate $P$ $k$ times then $P(x)=x$
they could have been clearer with their use of english, hence why i prefer being a pedant

Did they mean this?
$$
\underbrace{P ( P ( P \cdots P(x) ))))}_{k~times} = x
$$

oh, i just noticed that the quesiton uses $n$ instead.
yes

They are quite confusing, aren't they?

a little

Okay, how they got $d_i = d_{i+1}$?

2:51 PM
by assumption for $i=0$ and by the bracket for $i>0$

Please explain more elaborately.

first, agree for $i=0$?

No, not clearly.

its assumed
to reach a contradiciton
if $d=0$ there's nothing to prove
hence the $\neq 0$

The only things that I understand there are

1. If x and y are integers then $x-y$ divided $P(x)-P(y)$.
2. Applying (compositing) P k times results in the same input which we gave.

2:56 PM
for one particular $x$, yes
the second paragraph starts "suppose $d_0=d_1=d\neq 0$". So you just take it as faith

Did he mean this
$$
\frac{ P(x_1) -P(x_0)}{x_1 - x_0 } = d_0 = \frac{P(x_2) - P(x_1)}{x_2 -x_1}= d_1$$
$x_0, x_1, x_2 \in \mathbb{Z}$

why do you have a fraction?

Division
Applying theorem 3.1

you can't quote theorem numbers without context and i dont want the context
there's no fractions in the solution

$$
(x_1 -x_0) \big| \left(P(x_1 - P(x_0) \right) = d_0 = (x_2 - x_1) \big| \left(P(x_2) -P(x_1) \right)=d_1$$
Did they mean ^^^ that?

3:09 PM
yes
wait
no
your index is off by 1
they meant exactly what was written, idk why you are rewriting it

How they got $d_i = d_{i+1}$ for all i ?

first, agree for $i=0$?

7 mins ago, by Knight
$$
(x_1 -x_0) \big| \left(P(x_1 - P(x_0) \right) = d_0 = (x_2 - x_1) \big| \left(P(x_2) -P(x_1) \right)=d_1$$
If you mean that ^^^
Then, let's agree on it.

no
this is wrong
because $d_0 = x_1 - x_0 $ and not $x_2 - x_1$

does $d_0$ refer to the difference or the quotient?
(Thats the main source of my confusion)

3:15 PM
there are no quotients anywhere
$a|b$ means $a$ divides $b$, not $a/b$

You have taught me a great thing today.

lol
glad to help

$$
d_i=x_{i+1}-x_i\mid P(x_{i+1})-P(x_i)\color{red}{=}x_{i+2}-x_{i+1}=
d_{i+1}$$
I don't know why they equated it.
Can you please explain that?

that is by definition of $x_i$

They wrote that $d_i$ divides $P(x_{i+1} )- P(x_i)$ but
why they equated it to things after the red sign

3:24 PM
its a collection of statements $d_i = A$, $A|B$, $B=C$, $C=D$
the red equality whihch is $B=C$ is purely from the definition of $x_i$
nothing else

heyo peeps

hhihi

whatsup?

@CalvinKhor Thanks
I will look it after some time and then I think I shall get it

@CalvinKhor are you telling me homogeneous differential equation is not related with homogeneous function?

3:34 PM
@SpecterProphet yes
@SpecterProphet well there is a tiny similarity which explains the similar name but its ultimately not related
@Knight this one step should be obvious, its literally just replacing $x_i$ and $x_{i+1}$ with their definitions
@SpecterProphet if $x$ solves a linear homogeneous ODE, then so does $kx$ for any constant $k$

damn I was think homogeneous differential equation is special case of homogeneous function with change assigned to it lol

well online def is crappy

@satan29 you said your parents both are doctors. My father's brother was also a doctor.
When I was a child visiting his home, I often peeked his nurses giving injections to patients.

sht i can't blindly accept anything I really want to know formally so I will write in paper instead of just using brain

3:47 PM
When I was a child, I was taught by adults that doctors are the smartest people in the world.
But l somehow never wished to be a doctor.
And never had good impression in doctors.
Feeling doctors are to bring some distress to us.

I do think doctor are the smartest people in the world since only students with top sat score go in that field

Because I felt every doctor tends to bring pain to me.
I think doctors are very good at memorization.

yes
anatomy requires a lot of memorisation

4:03 PM
Being a doctor requires to go through a very tedious training which I feel intolerable.

doctor are also good at reasoning
can surpass in any field if they want

Being a doctor only requires a bachelor's degree, but they are called doctor notwithstanding having only a bachelor's degree.

their PhD have title doctor of doctor
@CalvinKhor can u give me example of it?

Because everyone is yielded to doctors when they are sick.

4:23 PM
may be I think I will agree with book than online definition for now

@CalvinKhor you there?

@satan29 are you happy now?

4:41 PM
crap I should have written in paper

5:02 PM
@CaptainBohemian ?
when was i.....not happy?

5:27 PM
I wonder how surgeon will treat if something like bullet pierce through your body

3 hours later…
8:41 PM
l
@CalvinKhor ok i understand now confusions is gone

9:13 PM
@SpecterProphet have you ever visited a surgeon?

3 hours later…
11:54 PM
@CaptainBohemian yes when my mom was pregnant the surgeon removed me from her body
