@RevenantBacon If it were my house, yes I would consider the kitchen and dining room part of the residence - and above I said that I WOULD consider the kitchen part of the residence for the Martikov family who own the inn. But I wouldn't have the expectation that people would wander in off the street to my dining room - and that is what happens in the taproom. If I lived in a dorm room at college I would consider my room to be my residence, even if I was there only seven months of the year.
If there was a bathroom off of the bedroom that would also be my residence, but not the communal bathroom at he end of the hall.
If there was a communal kitchen on the floor, that would not be my residence - but a small kitchenette for my four bedroom pod might be. Again, it all comes down to expectation of privacy and control.
Castle Ravenloft is entirely Strahd's domain - there is nowhere in the castle that his not his residence, no where that someone could be expected to "wander in". The possible exceptions would be his parents' tombs (where he cannot go) and maybe the outbuilding that is the stable and carriage house.
