It didn't come up at my table for a while as the campaign was a lot of open space and the cleric had a penchant for call lightning. Spirit weapon and spirit guardians gets used a lot indoors.
Although I don't think the question that bumped mine, rpg.stackexchange.com/a/206290, is a duplicate. The answer to the older question does answer the new one, but I think the mechanics of why probably aren't as obvious to newer players.
