Game developers Bennett Foddy and Zach Gage explore why game developers are one of the few types of craftspeople that don't sign their work, and why indie developers might benefit from putting their name on their games.

@BESW I'm glad that the talk starts out with an acknowledgement, however veiled, that some people don't put their names on their games because the Internet will hunt them down and kill them.

Q: Does the Death Ward spell prevent the side effect from the Nimbus of Pathos feature from the College of Tragedy bard?

Ygor MatheusThe Nimbus of Pathos feature from the College of Tragedy bard states that after 1 minute the target immediately drops to 0 hit points and is dying. Does death ward prevent that?

For the pun lovers here, I present: AP Calc BC kids joking about trigonometry.
> G: anyways so my problem is that tangent and I are in a pretty good relationship when it comes to the homework, but sine and cosine and I are having some difficulties with our friendship.
> B: Sounds like you might need to secant out some relationship therapy. You know, solve your problems a bit
> G: nah mostly it’s just that my cotangency plan is failing. I should log that for next line.
> B: Ahh, of course. That must be awful, you could always just secant it away in the dead of night and then you would parabola get away with claiming to lose it
(We have a group chat, seven geeks taking the class, and two people who either took it last year or are taking it through the community college across town. We also have a chapter’s worth of problems due Monday morning.)

Q: Can Monks Use Dex to grapple and shove under the One D&D Character Origins UA?

Q: What do you call it if you constantly get "Oh, you're Jane's brother!" and you want to surpass them?

AncientSwordRageI was thinking you might say that "You live in their shadow" but that doesn't imply you either have or want to surpass them? Like perhaps the media might say that Jaden Smith is living in his father's (Will Smith's) shadow (because Jaden is following the footsteps, but hasn't surpassed his dad ye...

I posted that in the hopes of wording a fate aspect, but I'm still coming up short

Living in the shadow of Jane

@GcL I thought of that, it doesn't focus on trying to surpass them

GcL
@AncientSwordRage It's the state of affairs. The desire to change the status quo would be to get out of the shadow of Jane.

@GcL yeah but that's not encapsulated in the phrase/FATE aspect
Or am I thinking of aspects wrong maybe?

GcL
Aren't goals aspects?
Especially if they'd take an entire story to play out?
I guess you could characterize it as an obstacle or problem.
overshadowed by Jane
Phrasing it as a problem leaves a number of ways to remedy it. One of which is flying higher.

5:21 PM
@GcL I'm thinking of it as a way to link it to the character trying to overachieve and ultimately bite off more than she can chew
Glazius suggested "The adventuring life chose me" to signify some of that, but I'm wondering if I can say more than one thing at a time with it

GcL
@AncientSwordRage Trying to pack a lot of meaning into a small phrase that is widely understood would be the purpose of a well known idiom. I can't think of one that conveys "aiming high" "biting off more than one can chew" and "getting out from the shadow of a sibling" all in one.
Perhaps "need to succeed" as a shorthand.

My go-to for that would be "I am more than _____", quotes included, but the reason I suggested "the adventuring life chose me" is that it also includes all the ways in which the character is genuinely unprepared for this. The downside of "I am more than" is pretty straightforward and small in comparison.

@GcL "I must prove myself to Jane" might work

GcL
Growing up I ran with some people that I always thought were successful. Years later a thread among them was their "tiger moms". I wasn't aware of the term, but it is common enough that it might serve as an aspect.

@Glazius I like the unprepared aspect

GcL
5:28 PM
Would definitely encapsulate the drive to exceed the successes of an older sibling.

(also remember, you're not writing an aspect for evaluation by strangers on a different continent three years later, you're writing it for your group, so don't worry about it being perfect or self-contained)

GcL
@Glazius Yeah, that's something Jane would have down pat, but don't worry about it for your group. /S

@Glazius good point, we can't all be Jane 😜

@AncientSwordRage Jane and Abel? I suppose that's less "want to surpass <person>" and more "<person> will kill you out of jealousy"

@Yuuki Jane and Abel?

5:43 PM
a play on "cain and abel"

Oh, I was wondering if I'd misspelled able for a second ^o^

it's from the judeo-christian bible, a story of two brothers and one of them kills the other out of jealousy because they had the favor of god

@Yuuki oh I know the original story, I got the play on words, I was trying to figured out if you mentioned it because I had made a spelling mistake because I wasn't getting a connection otherwise
Ohhhh, the jealousy thing
Apparently I'm on a go-slow today

it doesn't quite work anyways because cain/jane is the one who is jealous of abel, so it's more like the opposite of the situation you described

@Yuuki true
@Glazius but I do struggle with this part of FATE

Q: New to Dnd, need a couple pointers if possible!

Jessica LynnSo I've been watching 4 friends play DnD for a little over a year now. It's finally my time to join and become a part of all the fun! But I'm nervous. I have my character. Dragonborn Druid, starting with 39 HP. WIS and CON are my high points and everything else is fairly evened out. Any ways.... ...

Looks like they might need a hand getting this in good shape
