@Yuuki Thank you for that. Is the move out? We plan to go and see it.
@nitsua60 Gold dragons were modeled on the ancient chinese dragon lore (one of my ansers here covers that) and were the only original D&D dragons who took human form. Thus, Eddie Murphy is a golden dragon ... and he was in a movie called The Golden Child. Coincidence? I think not!
@Yuuki Ah, the 27th

@Powerdork You asked me about my Pathfinder game and I think I have replied to you but the notification popped out again and I can't remember if I really did.
(Also, I have **two** Pathfinder games now.)

DDB fixed the coupon code issue and changed the individual-book discount code to just take 25% off instead

Q: How I politely say to my players that I don't want to DM to them anymore?

T. SarI DM for a few different groups in a simultaneous fashion. DM'ing is a breeze for most of those groups. We always have a blast, we have a lot of fun, and we always end our day looking forward to the next session. For one group in specific, however, the situation is quite different. A few weeks...

@V2Blast I guess that the early adapters got a good deal. :)

Heyo, @Zachiel. What's good?

Q: Does Leomund's Secret Chest last only 60 days reliably, or can this timer be reset?

ClericLeomund's secret chest is a spell that lets the caster hide a very expensive chest in the Ethereal Plane. However, its drawback is that after 60 days, there is a chance the spell ends. If the spell ends while the chest is in the Ethereal Plane, it's lost forever. My question is, where does the 6...

I spent 3 minutes digging (for the word 'commercial', mind) and couldn't find anything prohibiting this on Meta RPG or Meta SE, or in the code of conduct. What's the take on putting monetary stuff in user profiles (for instance, Ko-Fi links)? Is that best handled by asking on Meta SE?

Q: Is it acceptable to solicit money on a user profile?

user201929I've just seen a user profile page which contains the following text: Donations are welcome via Paypal. Paypal account is the same as my email address. There's no context to suggest this has anything to do with supporting the user's favourite cause - it's a direct request for money. Is thi...

(I found it by searching Meta Stack Exchange for paypal [profile-page], after ko-fi [profile-page] came up blank)

A THOUSAND THOUSAND ISLANDS by Centaur Games is a series of zines, designed for use in fantasy adventure tabletop RPGs. Ongoing since 2017, this project draws from the overlapping material cultures, lived stories, and mythistories of that region of the world variously called Indochina, Suvarnabhumi, and the Nusantara -- Southeast Asia.

@NautArch do you have any objections to me editing your comment to make it clear that adding other answers is still fine. Something like:

that policy meta has proven slightly spicy, huh
rip your notifications indeed

4:32 PM
@Carcer Actually it's good to see the debate! It means people are thinking critically about it. It would have made me pretty nervous to see this go off without some sort of dissenting opinion...

@Carcer Ah, that's kind mild. If you want spicy, the RAW tag wars were spicy

But yes, my notifications have been a quite a bit more active than usual lol
@KorvinStarmast To say the very very least (as one who only read them after things had died down somewhat)

A good dissenter is always nice to have

Yup! :)

@kviiri OK, I can be a good dissenter, a neutral dissenter, or an evil dissenter. What's in it for me? 8^D

I think I'm too lazy to write an "adjust instead of revert" answer to that meta.

5:14 PM
@Akixkisu I have offered "do we really need to change" kind of answer as a third view , not sure if it will be of interest to you.

@KorvinStarmast I read and upvoted it, but I think there is still room for adjust some parts leave others intact.

@Akixkisu I'd be interested in hearing a proposal. I tried to make something like that work in some earlier drafts but nothing really worked the way I wanted. The tricky part is that the current rule is a bright line rule and it's main strength is that it is simple and uniform to enforce. Making it a hard rule with some exceptions undercuts that main strength (at least insofar as I was able to think about it).

@Akixkisu OK, I hope that you can offer an "adjust instead of revert" kind of answer

@Rubiksmoose exactly, I'm not so invested in the policy (change) that I want to do the tailoring.

@Akixkisu Understandable.

5:20 PM
Hmm, I'm unable to find if our company's museum benefit works on museum trains

@Rubiksmoose take this for instance, I'm blatantly confident, and have the expertise. But certainty is an illusion altogether.

@Akixkisu Indeed. A good thing about the policy (if adopted) is that nobody would be forced to do anything. If they are unsure about something you VTC as usual and no need to VtRO if you aren't sure either. If some other members are sure they cast their votes accordingly.

@MarkWells what is your take on this one? rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/166001/…

9:09 PM
@Akixkisu I'm not confident writing an answer to it, but your reasoning looks basically correct. The only part that's a little shaky is that I'm not sure "dying because your Rage runs out" counts as an instant death effect.
The barbarian is dying because they failed three death saves, which is not an instantaneous event.

@MarkWells is it an effect with duration, something else?

It's a series of events.

The event is not instant, the effect is.

Ignore Rage Beyond Death for a moment and consider just normally dropping to 0 hp. If you fail two death saves, someone casts Death Ward on you, and then you fail the third save, do you die or does Death Ward protect?
I'd say you die, because dying by death saves is not instantaneous, even though there is an instant at which you fail the third save.

@MarkWells why though?

9:15 PM
Why what?

@MarkWells :53735662 why would you look at the series of events that lead to the effect (that is death), or why would that death effect not be instantaneous, I suppose.

Because the cause of death isn't an instantaneous event, it's the injuries you already suffered.
Death by massive damage is instantaneous--it's damage from a single attack. Getting Disintegrated or Power Word: Killed is instantaneous.

Hm, does it matter via perspective that only the last instance of failing is relevant to the condition of death occurring? (only that instance completes the threshold which immediately triggers death, by itself none of these events - failed throws - is relevant in regards to the one instance of death).

@Akixkisu Mind if we take this to a separate room?

9:44 PM
@V2Blast Seems I created a redundant chat room (chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/105316/…). Can you clean that up, or should I just leave it and wait for it to time out?

@MarkWells I can delete it if you'd like

@V2Blast yes please

done

10:02 PM
@KorvinStarmast I've also chimed in there. It's more of a personal gut feeling, but.

@NautArch you mean to tell me I can be a fish in AL now but not a hexblade changeling with +4 CHA at level one.

@kent You can't have +4 in any ability at 1st level in AL as far as I know

10:22 PM
@Glazius Thank you for your input. Your answer has really got me thinking.
My gut says these are orthogonal issues, but that may be too simplistic.
Regardless, the very last thing we want to do with any policy is create even more pressure on non-D&D systems.

@Someone_Evil You can with changeling race, since you get +2 to Cha and an additional +1 to any ability score (which includes Charisma, since it doesn't say "any other ability score")
Possibility confirmed by Crawford here (in response to question asking if that's an error): twitter.com/JeremyECrawford/status/1197377429288783873

@V2Blast Derp, I looked at the shifter race and not the changeling race when I checked that.

but note that Changeling's only an option in the Eberron AL campaign
lol
that'd do it :P

Q: What happens when you cast Death Ward on a raging level 14 Zealot Barbarian who is at 0 HP?

ClericLet's say a Zealot Barbarian is using Rage Beyond Death and thus they do not fall unconscious at 0 HP. Let's further say that they're currently at 0 HP. If death ward is cast on them, then by RAW it seems like they do not go back up to 1 HP. But what if they receive damage afterwards? Does death...

Also you can do it. I misread the lack of phb+1 as no Xanthars. Eberron AL is PHB, Xanathars and Eberron: Rising from the last war +0.

10:44 PM
@NautArch I should have said "you mean I can play a +4 cha hexblade at level one but I can't play a fish in eberron." they have some nerve

@kent Yep. Xanathar's was added last month in the same set of updates that added Locathah to the FR AL campaign

11:01 PM
@V2Blast I have to rather suddenly be away from my computer for a while. I will update and un-delete my answer to the recent meta upon getting back to the site

no worries, take your time :)
