@BESW I'm honestly not sure I can explain it without sounding insulting.

Is it related to this question?

@BESW That's why I looked it up, yeah.

1 hour later…
1:10 AM
@BESW What's his problem with physics? Or is it a problem with internet discussions of physics?

1:24 AM
@BESW would you like thoughts here or in a different room?

@nitsua60 it's a "people trying to apply physics to D&D" problem

@Shalvenay I hope he doesn't hate this answer; it's one of my favorites =)

@nitsua60 It's not even that he hates the topic, just that (like monks and vow of Poverty) it has repeatedly bogged the chat down in arguments.

@Miniman makes sense. It's the discussion--particularly the prevalence of poor discussion--of physics that's so hard to bear. (He should try teaching quantum to high schoolers some time!)

@nitsua60 Those are the topics which historically have sent the site in general, and chat in particular, into paroxysm of frothing bile.

1:37 AM
@BESW I'm surprised Alignments aren't (isn't?) on the list

@Adeptus yeah, I am surprised as well

They got added later.
@nitsua60 For a microcosm of the physics debate, see these two comments.

@BESW Not sure I'd go that far, although I wasn't here for all of those.

But if alignment's banned we wouldn't have had...

@AncientSwordRage it seems the difference between LG and CE is a question of "have I had my shower yet today?" Which, all told, is probably as good an alignment guide as you're gonna get.
@BESW My ears got confused when reading that comment chain. It was like they were each trying to go different directions, while turning inside out. I feel like I should flag for deletion to spare someone else the experience.

Whoops, wrong room link.
@nitsua60 How about we talk about Colonypunk in the Spoil-Lair?

1:47 AM
@BESW on my way

2:37 AM
@doppelgreener I'm feeling very good about this version.

@BESW me too.

And it's 6 words under the cap!

Nice!

Tiny Creatures Sharing a Square sounds like a performance art exhibit.

@BESW or a mobile phone game

Yes.
I assume it would make extensive use of the phone's tilt-awareness hardware.

user15026
I suspect so.

"When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." is a good programming maxim.

@doppelgreener In programming I've often found the Dirk Gently version applies.

@Miniman what's that one?

4:56 AM
@doppelgreener The impossible is more likely to be the truth, since the highly improbable is by definition unlikely, whereas the impossible merely requires that there's some factor we don't know about or understand.
It sounds a lot better when it's Douglas Adams saying it, of course.

> What was the Sherlock Holmes principle? 'Once you have discounted the impossible, then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.'
I reject that entirely. The impossible often has a kind of integrity to it which the merely improbable lacks.

I'd be a lot more excited about Breakthrough Starshot if the announcement hadn't invoked Moore's "law" twice by name. Still, I think the open collaborative element of the project is super awesome.
"Tenuous Corona" would be a good name for a band. Or possibly a shade of lip gloss.

i think its high time i finish my application soon.

Applecation?

:P
I need to work on something more... elaborate.
my current job is... lets say inadequate.
I dont feel very motivated to do this anyway.

Ah.

If any of you guys are looking for a micro-rpg with shades of FATE and roll for shoes in it: I've put together a new version of the one I've been playing with for the last year.
There is also a completely untested conversion kit for including D&D stuff in it which I offer no promises about being functional or complete.

2:53 PM
what's "micro-RPG"?

shrugs

3:16 PM
@Sejanus A micro-RPG is one that is very tiny, or micro. Like, a 200 word RPG, for instance. or an RPG that fits on one printed page, like Cthulhu Dark. Or Roll for Shoes, which consists entirely of seven brief bullet points. Naturally there's a fuzzy line to be drawn: Lady Blackbird has all the rules on one character sheet, and a couple of pages of scenarios and GM advice - is it micro? Up to the interpreter.

you mean light on mechanics
like The Window

An RPG that is described in so few words must necessarily be light on mechanics.

I see
I use this mimgames.com/window when I want almost pure RP no mechanics
but for longer campaigns I prefer having some more mechanical rules and mechanical player character improvement too

@Sejanus This one is about 3 pages. I have been successfully using an older version of it for about a year now in a long running weekly campaign. Though doing so required a little more setup on the part of me as the GM than you might have with your basic anything RAW goes D&D campaign. But no more than would be needed for a class/race restricted themed campaign.

I see
well I personally find WoD almost perfect for campaigns or rather Chronicles both lore and rules wise
but for single shots I like to try out new things once in a while

3:28 PM
@Sejanus Keep on keepin' on. I just had the rules typed up and figured someone might want em other than just me.

8 hours later…
11:16 PM
@Sejanus that's the circumstance in which my own group has tried out some of these tiny RPGs :)

11:45 PM
it is a great way to try out new things
not too much commitment
at least until you already know if you like it or not XD
