you can't log in with the HTTPS Everywhere plugin, and some other little things break here and there
Mornin'.
....I have 45 minutes before the Pacific Coast business day ends, and this 888 number is busy.

Please, keep them in your thoughts.
What is a good way of surveying my players (as the groups newest dm) about if they are having fun and if they feel the group is balanced?
Ask 'em.
Also, eavesdrop on 'em.
@DavidWilkins this depends: are you in the twilight zone? if yes, they are not.
otherwise, as BESW recommends.
Evesdrop?
My games work best when we have some hangout time before we start play: snacks, socialising. It bonds the group, gets the jokes and "how was your day" stuff out of our systems, and I get to listen to what they like and don't like: if they talk about something in the game during social time, it means they feel strongly about it one way or the other.
00:20
Hrmmm...intriguing
That's "eavesdropping." I create a space where they talk about stuff and listen for clues about the game that they might not even be consciously aware of.
Then after the game I have an overt and deliberate evaluation/reflection space: I ask them what they liked and didn't like.
I like your suggestions, thx @BESW
That's where they can help guide the game, consult about tensions so they don't fester, make requests for what they want to see, and so forth.
My pleasure. It took me long enough to figure out this stuff, no need for other GMs to go through that too.
I liked this!
It's great being able to reflect
and it was fantastic running my first game for our group and immediately afterwards people saying it was really fun :)
00:40
o/ @BESW and @doppelgreener
@Shalvenay howdy!
how's it going?
@waxeagle Depends on your handling ability. I'm better on a mtb than I am x-country skis.
00:57
Ooh, I wonder if I can use the Pushbullet copy/paste anywhere feature now.
grr comix shop was out of SW#2 :(. Heading back next week for a reorder and hopefully Darth #1
01:57
So... Firefox will synchronize which addons I'm using, but not their settings?
02:16
that's annoying.
grr just cracked the new ipad screen installing it :(
thankfully it's not too bad. Hopefully it's a while before it gets any worse so I can leave it on there and wait a while before I buy another new one :(
eek.
this is the second new screen I've had to put on in a year :(
....and now Firefox won't go to links I type into the address bar, but will do searches in it.
Extension interaction is fun.
...and my install of Firefox on Windows seems to be user-specific? [face/palm]
@BESW yeah, that's probly an option during setup? Or maybe they took it out and it defaults to user specific?
Well, like, I installed it on a regular user account, and the admin account can't find the Firefox executable at all.
02:27
weird.
I do not understand Windows user accounts.
This whole thing is really bugging me.
02:49
Bah. I'm temporarily giving up. I should be able to make Firefox do what I want, but it won't.
Just spent ten minutes trying to get RPG.SE to log in with the right gmail account and failed.
(After it had logged in just fine a half-dozen times.)
Seems that I know just enough about computers to know why I should be using Firefox, but not enough to actually use Firefox.
@BESW -- tried Chrome?
@Shalvenay That's what I'm trying to use Firefox instead of.
03:03
What, you thought I was on IE or something?
yeah, I thought you were on IE :P
also, it seems like creepy is the absolute worst thing a PC can be :/
whispers IE 10 isn't too bad (though I can't stand using it)
(IE hasn't been truly horrific since 6, and starting with 8 it's almost usable)
[Slaps waxeagle in the face] Get a hold of yourself!
Also, close votes.
03:22
flagged as too broad
@Miniman there's really only one thing that drives me truly batty about IE 10 (And it's enough to keep me from using it). That's that it insists on opening every tab as it's own window in the task bar.
There are plenty of other reasons I won't use it. For one thing I regularly use 2 PCs and my phone, and using Chrome means I can have my history, favorites, and recent tabs on all 3 seamlessly
(plus my browser settings sync across the 2 PCs too)
and any saved passwords, etc are all there
03:53
@doppelgreener HEED THE CALL OF YOUR MASTER AND WITNESS, FOR MY BOOK ON WILDERS IS FINALLY OUT: paizo.com/products/btpy9c0m/…
@Lord_Gareth man, that question was a long time ago
@KRyan My question on what was wrong with Wilders?
@Lord_Gareth yeah
bah, someone downvoted my "how to prevent sorcerers from getting shafted by the Spell Points variant?" answer
someone doesn't like to hear how sorcerers are strictly-inferior to wizards even before Spell Points gave away their one advantage
also, why does the Review Queue keep saying 3 even though I've reviewed everything available right now?
in fact, it pretty much always says 3
04:15
@KRyan That little icon says how many things are in the Review Queue, but once you've reviewed them they don't show up in your list anymore.
But the icon still registers them as existing until enough people have reviewed them that they're resolved.
@BESW well that's silly
@Lord_Gareth Wooooooooooooo!! \o/
@KRyan it's for the purposes of telling you the current state of moderation on the site
i.e. if that figure's climbing upwards, something's going wrong, whether or not you've reviewed everything available, and that's a good thing to know about
@doppelgreener suppose so
Community.
speaking of, flag on blatant flaming on WB is still Active 8 hours later

@BESW is a great show
this seems like a long time to me

immediately after my twilight zone message i set up my speakers and started listening to Welcome to Night Vale again. :)

Q: D&D 3.5e and Pathfinder -- read *which* book?

ShalvenayD&D 3.5e and Pathfinder are somewhat-special among the systems we run into in that their mechanics are spread across many texts, as opposed to being defined in one place. Of course, SRDs help with this, but are somewhat-necessarily limited in what they cover; people who are new to 3.5e and/or Pa...

06:41
@TheOracle As this doesn't present any instances of the problem actually happening, I'm voting to close as unclear what's being asked.

Is this what the internet's come to?
user61230
I'm bored by everything except random word changes.
user61230
Cloud to Butt Plus.
user61230
XKCD's "Senator" to "Elf-Lord"
user61230
"Car" to "cat" (which I didn't even realize, to my horror and confusion)
user61230
("My cat broke the other day." "WHAT?")
15:08
@Emrakul My brain does this all the time.
15:23
Tonight we did milestone/volume bookkeeping and changes.
Our new pressures are Catastrophic electromagnetic storms and Cabin fever in spaaace.
In pathfinder I want someone to construct a Shield (Heavy/Steel) with "Arrow Catching" and "Animated". Does the shield have to have +2 (Enhancement to Shield) for that? Or just +1?
15:35
Mini sculpting and painting is on topic at the scale modeling SE, for anyone that does that.
@mawimawi It only needs to have a +1, but the cost is equivalent to a +2 to add the animation.
So, the animation would be a +2 cost, or 4000gp, and the arrow catching costs +1, or 1000. So just to add the two animations would be 5000 gp.
16:15
@JohnP dramatically incorrect
+1 arrow catching animated heavy shield is a +4-equivalent total, so the magic all told is 16,000 gp
2
16:28
@KRyan Arrow catching and animation is only 5k of that total.
I didn't calculate the entire shield, just the cost for those two.
@KRyan Wait, how are you doing that math? A +1 shield is 1000, a +2 ability enhancement is 4000 and a second +1 is 1000.
@JohnP yes, which means it is a +4-equivalent total
i.e. 16,000
you add up the enhancement-equivalent abilities before determining their cost
2
you do not get to pay for them separately
AHA, ok, I gr0k now. I was adding separately, I wasn't adding to get a +. My mistake.
@JohnP makes a big difference, because of the quadratic growth
@mawimawi - Ping for the new math and costly hotness.

19:07
@JohnP Thanks @JohnP and @KRyan for this! And it makes sense, since packing so much magic into an item must be costly.

2 hours later…
20:40
@DavidWilkins - I stopped by the store and they had both first and second edition World of Darkness. I picked up the 2nd ed for you, and if you want the first I can stop by next week on way home from work.
20:53
@JohnP Awesome! Just the Second Ed. Is great!
How much do you think it would cost to mail it to me?
21:32
What is the rules on being trained in Spell Casting/Sword-Mens-ship/Etc. For I want the party to find a orphan who had been abandoned when his home town was radied. I want the kid to the no combat knowlege and be trained by the PC's
Oh yeah D&D 3.5
21:43
@DavidWilkins - Shoot me your address to tkd dot teacher at gmail, I don't think more than a couple bucks unless you're somewhere weird.
Ok doing that now...you can nix your addy if you want
Too late, but no worries. It's all over the place anyway.
Ok sent. Let meknow how much total and I can either paypal you or send amoney order
done.
