Q: According to Advaita, if everything is unreal or “in me” then why make an effort to help others?

P JaiSanakaracharya inspite of being an enlightened being went about refuting other paths to enlightenment. Swami Vivekananda, Ramakrishna set up organisations like Ramakrishna mission, etc. to spread the Vedantic Knowledge. My question is, post enlightenment when I realise that I am the only thing th...

Dont follow Max Muller or such western mistranslations of Vedanta who dont have even words for terminologies like Brahman, Maya, Chitta, Chidda etc., For them there is no difference in mind and brain or soul and body. Vedanta declares, 'Jagat Mithya, Brahm Satya', here western scholars mistranslate Mithya as unreal but its not, its real meaning is something redundant, hence correct word is used as leela or play and is Vyavaharik Satya as a path to Paramrithik Satya which a layman know as enlightenment. advaita.org.uk/discourses/definitions/paramartha2.htm
All these Swamis and Acharyas help others, because thats the final purpose of everyone in the first place. Not helping others is always an option and they end up as inert avadhutas like Jadabharat .en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trailanga greatmaster.info/sriramakrishna/ramakrishnasayings/…
@ManuKumar if mithya is not unreal or false then whats the antonym for this word in sanskrit?
@RakeshJoshi Basically there is a difference in Sat and Satya, Sat is used for a noun or Sangya in a space domain, but Satya is a verb/attribute or Kriya and a time domain fact. The opposite of Satya is Mithya/lie(not unreal), but opposite of Sat is Asat(unreal or Pratibhasit illusion). You, I and the material world exist right now, this is Satya, but its not eternal as it will perish/change with time with a fixed concrete substrate Atman(gist of Geeta) or Sat Chida Ananda. Mithya is negation of Satya and dependent on it, but asat is that which does not exist like a 12 legged human.
@ManuKumar i didn't ask about sat . Just antonym of mithya as per amara kosha or something like that
@RakeshJoshi thats the problem, spirituality is not some one word bookish definition, maybe it is for novice common worldly person, but true spirituality is based on experience and practicality. Some say Atman is same as Paramatma, some say atman is different from paramatman, some say atman doesnt exist, but the most important thing is not what someone says, but what you understand, as at the end of day spirituality or understanding is personal experience and path. Books are mere lifeless interpolations of several scholars, and for people not vice versa and cant prove or disprove anything.
What Mithya, Sat, Satya means in context of spirituality and Vedanta, I already explained. Everyone will understand based on their background evolution and ability. Hence, Advaita, Dvaita and Vishishtadvaita school of thoughts coexist in Hinduism. The importance is not of which school of thought one follows, but the important is the spiritual path itself.

@ManuKumar not me but all scholars so far have unanimously agreed that mithya means unreal or false. Not only vaishnava vedantins but also neutral samkhya scholars like vijnana bhikshu
@RakeshJoshi ok i agree with you, is your ego satisfied now. Now all your scholars you have read, can they explain through you, what is the real purpose of existence? What is Atman? What is God? Where does it live? What is intellect and its purpose? What is Death and reincarnation and purpose of it? What is Maya? What is the purpose of wife and children? Can they explain the answers to these simple questions, they can only if you know the answers first.
@ManuKumar I have made a post on agamas and vedanta it has many key points
@RakeshJoshi I already know the answers but the point is, do you know the answers or have the urge to find it. If you dont know the answers to these deep spiritual metaphysical questions, your or your bookish definition of Mithya is erroneous because Mithya cant be understood before getting the answers to above several questions as the Mithya word is used in the context of Vedanta is for understanding the crux, not some definition of Amara kosha. Spirituality of Vedanta is to be grasped in totality and whole, not something correct here or something correct there.
@ManuKumar i m repeating again several established sects have raised this criticism over centuries. I am not the first one. There is no test to confirm if you have had deeper spiritual experiences or i have. For this topic I can have a dialogue in chat room and can defend what i have stated here.
@RakeshJoshi thats the point, just because some major sect is criticizing a single or fewer person doesnot prove they are wrong. Abrahamic religions are 50% of world today and way more than Hindus and deny reincarnation, Moksha, Vishnu, Shiva, does that disprove Hindu Vedanta, Dvaita etc., Animals and insects are more than humans and dont believe in God because they lack intellect, does that prove that there is no God. So, going by majority doesnot prove or disprove anything, because eventually you have to prove and understand for yourself, not to others as oblivion is one's within not outside
@RakeshJoshi just like spiritual experience, you cant prove or confirm the presence of Shiva, Vishnu, Swarag etc., its mere a hearsay from the society and useless, unless one has practically seen and experienced divinity. You cant even prove God than how can you prove world is real or not(Mithya), even an animal knows world exists, more important for any wise human is to understand its purpose as neither I have created the world, nor you, nor Ramanujacharya nor Shankaracharya, rest is word jugglery for dominance over others which is futile and temporary ego satisfaction and useless for creator

@ManuKumar yes but then you show me exact vyutpatti of that word if you think that all understood it wrongly. Also no major upanishad says that world is mithya in fact taitiriya upanishad says that brahman desired to be many and expanded and he entered the CREATED jagat.
@RakeshJoshi Brahman has become world, you say world is not Mithya, but is it? If I or someone kill you today, where is Rakesh or his job or his family or wealth? It disappears instantly, you dont even remember your previous birth yet claim to believe in reincarnation. Isnt this the biggest Mithya/lie and bigotry? To understand Brahman /Upanishads, you have to realize Atman, what is Atman?where is Atman? How does it stores actions and where? And why did Brahman expanded into Atman in first place? As long you dont know the answers to these core spiritual questions, your knowledge is sheer cramming
@RakeshJoshi you dont even know what is Brahman exactly yet claim it exists? Have you seen Brahman? Can everyone see Brahman? Where does it live? What is the gender of Brahman? Is Brahman conscious or unconscious? How does Brahman expands exactly? If you dont know answer to these basic yet core spiritual questions, how can someone expect from you to explain the meaning of word Mithya or present an unbiased non-interpolated summary of major Upanishads. Brahman is mere a Upanishadic fantasy like stories of superman, spider man from your end till now.
